Not to rain on anyones parade.... But Guns International has some very nice listings; but the prices are ridiculous at times and often inflated. Some are downright laughable. If I could sell some of my rifles or shotguns what they ask on there I would sell the whole lot tomorrow. If I could get $4300 for my Blaser R93 like the one thats on there right now (and mine has substantially better wood); I'd sell that too. I bought a Sauer 200 on their that listed there at $2300, for $900 in the box new after it sat for a year and the seller got a dose of reality. I have a half dozen 452's new and used and paid between 325 -425 used and about the same new. Me and Larry going to try and reach a deal on this one; but a bit more then a hundred bucks. More like $109.99 and a bottle of syrup.

I'm at work... I'll call you tonight and let's make a deal.

Shipping stuff For a hunting trip Question.
Dinsdale replied to biggamefish's topic in General Chit Chat
It has to be shipped ground only and labelled "ORMD- Ground Only"; similar when shipping ammo. And yes I know there are many who dont, and stuff flat rate regular boxes. I follow the rules, my call...its not that big of deal. YMMV Personally I have bought online from camping supplier and shipped to a delivery address (New Mexico, Texas). I find this easiest as they are used to packaging and I don't have to deal with a clerk who is flustered at anything out of the ordinary. Also if you pick one of the many suppliers near your destination shipping time will be shorter; I also didn't want to drive around looking for canisters when wanting to just be on my way. Fairly common for hikers as standard practice to use "general delivery" as a care of at a local post office for pick up, if you don't have a hotel/outfitter/friend to mail to specific. I mailed gear as a box along with a purchase of fuel to a UPS store right next to car rental building to hold package, reversed the process and mailed gear home and took meat as checked luggage home. Used cooler as box for gear on way out, cheaper then extra baggage fees and again didn't have to find something there. Thank you for the vote of confidence. -
$1.99 in N. Dutchess too; for about a month. Diesel at @2.86

Outstanding. When you're done; you can come teach the guys in the maintenance dept where I work how to read a tape too. Some have 30 years in the trades and are lost at the little lines.

My version of lawn care is a 5 gal pail of 40% agricultural round up. I have a time limit of 30 minutes a week on yard care, gets over that, things are getting killed.

Happy Birthday to wife from me, and sorry to hear about her dad. These posts about Alleghany bring up fond memories as I spent a month most summers as a kid in National Forest in PA, and fished in the NY Park.

It happens.... I got a tip from a respectable agent about them closing Polar Bear for import to US; everyone else in the industry had the Feds keeping it open, just adjusting paperwork etc. Well I booked first safari with the money and sure enough they closed it the following spring and I could have gone in under the wire to get a hide back. Coulda, woulda, shoulda Honest I think the whole Leopard import thing will be shut down soon; and instead of messing around I should drop the coin and get on with it. I've baited a bunch and enjoyed every minute, but all the sudden I want to pull the trigger. But I'm going with top operator as its too much money for a so so area with low results.

I know where there is a $23,000 grizz hunt in Alaska for $14000 in June because of a cancelation from virus. But there are deals all the time because of issues with hunts. Almost everything I have done is because of some special circumstances about timing that made the price more agreeable; and I had the financial resources ready to take advantage.

The outfit I have used in Zimbabwe spends close to $400,000 a season to just open camps/ pay gov't fees for concession/ year round anti poaching patrol. Their anti poaching team of 22 has in 6 years turned a so-so area of 500,000 acres (2x size of all Catskill park) into one of the premier areas along the Zambezi, and is a model for others now. They will make ZERO income this year. Even hunts in 2021 are unsure due to airline restrictions on incoming foreign nationals going into the future. Re starting airline travel international is going to be problematic at best. The neighboring areas that allow hunting in trade for meat and cash (that also expands the area to 1 million acres) are screwed too.......schools, medical care, infrastructure projects all depend on hunter income. Poaching even without the camera safaris afield has already increased substantially, let alone adding in the hunting concessions. Many who can't absorb the hit will fold up shop over this. Most outfits I know are working with clients to move hunts forward....most don't want to cancel with a refund, they want the damn hunt of a lifetime! This is epic for places like New Zealand that draws huge numbers of tourists; although hunter dollars make up just a small portion. Sad days for international hunting.

Although there are several land classifications specific to ADK's; the designations are statewide that define forever wild, and restrict logging for example. Info here; https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/7811.html Frankly most of the ADK's were controlled by large companies that could log. And most were not economically feasible, sold into land conservancies and sold to the state in one way or another. Finch Pruyn would be a recent example.
-
It's In the NY constitution; the forever wild language. (adopted 1894) So either 2 successive legislative sessions have to approve a change and put it for public vote for an amendment. Or it has to be changed during a NY constitutional convention if one is called. Once they designate new land as forever wild its done for, with no burning the only option is logging and that aint gonna happen.

They're kinda overkill. And top of the line for what they are. They are hell built for stout to take on steep rough terrain, and sitting in a tree stand or walking the farm ain't rough hunting. I have some serious mountain boots (Meindl), and I'm thinking most would find them really stiff in the sole. I broke them in around the ADK's backpacking and there isn't really any terrain I needed them for, and that included most of the high peaks around Marcy, saddleback, basin, trap dike trail etc. And took them to New Zealand to hunt/hike where they worked awesome to kick in on some step stuff I have never even seen in the northeast. If I can figure out some personnel logistics (and we solve this virus for air travel etc), I'm planning a mountain hunt and have tried the insulated (my current boots are not) and they are about as well crafted as any I have ever seen and I'll buy a pair. But like the Meindls, I doubt I'd reach for them for local hunting or would pay the premium for such; and I can afford to buy just about anything I want to hunt. JMO...... YMMV and all that.....

I buy the single wrapped slices and use them for backpacking. End of a long day and many miles, damn its good stuff.

And all the sudden China has no cases at all. Bill Gates foundation was supplying South Africa with testing for CV19. But Zimbabwe's doctors and nurses went on strike as they have no PPE and they ran their health care system into the ground years ago. All of Africa owned by the chinese now, easy to buy off the gov'ts with a few Mercedes cars and a tiny cut of the profit. That whole place will be one gigantic open pit mine when they are done. Millions live with communal facilities( if you can call them that) in the townships, it'll look like when I was there at the height of the AIDS epidemic; with every square inch covered with a fresh grave on the outskirts. -

Ebola ever mutates and gets easier to spread? Things are going to get ugly. I actually can't believe it has stayed more or less contained around the Congo/DRC. WHO has 60 people for all of Africa with a few ngo's sprinkled about.
