  1. 100% No seasons and no tags to protect livestock. I was amazed how bold coyotes were when I had cows dropping calves when I had a beef herd. Shot every one (of the coyotes, not the cows)
  2. It funds a bunch of companies to do research on finding a solution, then that has to be incorporated into NTSB directives and then it would be out several years before implementation. One of my clients in Ct. is involved as an engineering/ hardware supplier to these type systems. Part of it is software technology that analyzes the driver if they are impaired ; same technology is used in other DOD projects. Guy collects Maserati’s; it pays really well. Theres a ton of testing, the inevitable court cases etc, before this becomes a reality.
  3. Posts distort infrastructure law’s rule on impaired driving technology; CLAIM: President Joe Biden signed a bill that will give law enforcement access to a “kill switch” that will be attached to ALL new cars in 2026. AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. While the bipartisan infrastructure bill Biden signed last year requires advanced drunk and impaired driving technology to become standard equipment in new cars, experts say that technology doesn’t amount to a “kill switch,” and nothing in the bill gives law enforcement access to those systems. 4. No offense but….. You should charge more, especially the shoulder mounts. It gives you the margin you need to spend just a little extra time when you need to and gain a little profit for better equipment and supplies. When I ran my woodshop, I always charged too little thinking it would gain me customers. Guess what? It gave me customers always looking for a bargain, and when finally raised prices to actually try and make a better go of it, all I had is cheapo’s looking for a deal. Have confidence in your work, its good; mount less heads, but make more money from each one. AND you can fiddle more on the details cause your time is being paid being an artist and having fun. JMO.
  5. I got no dog in this, but now you want it your way. You imply a high fence isnt hunting, now you get a specific acreage you dont like. Just sayin'.
  6. It wasnt baited leopard, it was dog hunts for cats, leopard and caracal. Two outfits that worked together, one in South Africa, one in Namibia, were implicated often. It shut down dog hunting in Namibia for good when the legit outfits demanded action by the govt. A trapped cat wouldnt go to bait, it runs like hell....and thats fine for dogs, the bad guys even know where to pick up trail. Thats why you could pull a fast one on a client. Oh look, the dogs just picked up a scent. Wink wink. Actually the tough times of US economy in 2008 and again with corvid have weeded out many of the dodgy operators in it for a buck of the 2000-2008 era when hunter numbers were just crazy good. Only the better operations had the capital and quality to stick around for the most part have survived. Screw up and its all over the internet in days, its a small community with social media, and the relative few numbers of hunters and outfitters involved. Still there are a couple outfits i would run like hell away from, they just have too many times implicated in shady issues. Done the prebaiting on 3 leopards, hunting bait, hanging, dragging guts. Its actually the part i like, all three guys got a cat within 3 days of thier hunts. Its stinky, long days covering long distances, making quick shots on the ends of stalks to take bait animals, 90 degree temps with a barrel of maggot crawling guts sloshing around for drags in the back of the truck. You see a ton of stuff, as every carnivore comes to investigate a bait and drag. Fun times, do it again in a second.
  7. This state is a train wreck. I just quit my job, its easy to find another one for me in my area, there is simply not much talent for what i do. First time ever, i am have started to think i should move. Not based on this particular set of laws, but it certainly just keeps adding to the list.
  8. FWIW, I buy plastic gun cases from a smaller outdoor shop. If i buy 5 i get a pretty good discount (just over $20), they come wrapped that way from distributor. Maybe those without can do the same with others. I buy ones where the handle is recessed smooth at the latch side as part of the injection molding so i can wrap with cardboard for shipping. I almost always transport hardcase anyway, Pelican or aluminum, so have options from 1-4 long guns in size. I have never left a gun just laying exposed on a car seat going into a store, just seems like inviting stupidity.
  9. Changes Create a New Hunting Opportunity on Long Island and Modernize Hunting Regulations New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced changes to wild turkey hunting regulations that will provide hunters additional hunting opportunities. The finalized regulation establishes a spring turkey season in Suffolk County in 2023, with a season limit of one bearded bird, and makes #9 shot legal for hunting turkeys statewide during the fall and spring seasons. "Wild turkeys are a conservation success story in New York and across the United States," Commissioner Seggos said. "Thanks to DEC's careful management and restoration programs and the work of our conservation partners since the 1960s, sizable populations of turkeys can now be found in every region of the state. This new regulation will increase opportunities for New York turkey hunters and supports ongoing effective management of this game bird." Since the 1990s, the turkey population on Long Island has grown to more than 3,000 birds. In 2009, modern turkey hunting on Long Island began with a five-day fall season and a one-bird bag limit. After DEC established this season and later a two-day, youth-only spring season, area turkey populations continued to increase. Current turkey populations support additional hunting opportunities in the form of a spring season from May 1 through 31, with a bag limit of one bearded bird. For most turkey hunters, the new spring 2023 season will be the first spring turkey hunting opportunity on Long Island. Spring turkey hunting on Long Island will begin in May 2023 in Suffolk County, Wildlife Management Unit 1C. In addition, following a public comment period earlier this year, DEC is modernizing statewide turkey hunting regulations by changing the minimum shot size from #8 to #9 for turkey hunting statewide. The change was necessitated by advances in shotshell technology. Previously, shot sizes smaller than #8 (larger number indicates smaller size) were prohibited because they lacked the kinetic energy downrange to humanely harvest a turkey. Modern shotshells use heavier metals such as tungsten alloy, tungsten-iron, or bismuth, maintain enough energy to humanely harvest a turkey, and perform as well or better than many traditional turkey loads. Changes to shot size restrictions apply to both fall and spring seasons and go into effect on Sept. 1,
  10. Hmmm, whats the bear equivolent of veal? Wanna borrow a bigger bore, like my 458Lott?
  11. Surprised no one has commented on this.... Personally i would shoot it first, make sure it has some potential accuracy beforeci dumped money in it, but thats me. Thats a good piece of glass, shame to drop the coin on something that might be iffy. But I have installed more then a few Timney triggers and its worth and they are a solid choice. Fairly strait forward install almost all of the time. I have had to make small adjustments to inletting, but not much. EGW makes good stuff. Id rather have conventional rings on bases; as i dont like narrowing loading or ejection, but thats just me too. But i needed a rail to mount short red dot on one gun. Rings all depend on preference. I like a scope to mount low as possible, just letting bell clear barrel. Web will give you exact numbers on scope diameter, rail and rings to calculate clearance. Some buy scope and bases( in your case rail) and measure h needed. I dont know bowling pin means? Example please?
  12. I thought the same thing….6 guys. You advertised roughly 70 acres for $1400 around here, you’d have to change your phone number for all the calls 24/7. I hunted 80 acres that went to lease and that was $5000 in 2010. I have no idea now, and same guys are still there. And that just deer, no turkey or year round.
  13. I have a case of S&B 8mm if interested. Good stuff too, euro loaded to full potential. 196gr. I need Federal 215 magnum primers/ IMR 4064/ cash
  14. Back in late June a republican congressman from down south somewhere submitted legislation to abolish PR because its anti 2a. Had like 50 something others sign on to it.(was in an sci publication as they are going to fight it if it gains traction) Maybe they can get together and fight it out over who wants it gone more for their side. This country has lost its frickin mind. JMO.
  15. I’ve bought and sold a fair amount of used/ in the box new type optics, mostly hunting and gun forums. Never disappointed on the buying end. The selling end can get weird. LOL
  16. Find a pair of used Swarovski 8x30 SLC’s in like new condition around $500 and be done with it. Fit 95% of anything you’d ever need, except mountain game. Lightweight for power, ergonomic case design that never snags no matter how you carry them. All glass looks decent in good light, great glass looks fantastic in the poorest conditions you can throw at them.
  17. Its the Carmen Island Desert Bighorn that could be eye opening. Also hunted Polar Bear after 2009. That means he had to leave the hide in Canada. I’ve done a couple hunts where I didnt get to bring anything home about the same cost. But no one gets to export on those hunts and you know going in; but thinking that anyone else who hunts Polar Bear from anywhere else in the world can get their trophy home, and you can’t because of USFW, really grinds.
  18. Well, call me embarrased. The Savage 220 i have absolutely tack drives sst's, its stupid accurate with them. Better then it should be for what it cost( i bought mine when prices were sane) But there ya' go; i have hardly shot anything for guns, and dont know chit.
  19. Getting old is tough. I also lost shoes today. I use a pair of sketchers on finished jobs inside and had to add some shelves on a job today. I wear merrells when outside cutting, and after coming back in, couldnt find my slip ons. I knew i wore them already. Even went back to van as i carried stuff back and forth a bit. Owners dogs took them, found them in master bedroom, and intact! 2 rhodesian ridgebacks, i thought they'd be shreads. I think they just wanted the attention.
  20. I’m just making a post to add to the total on this thread and maybe you will win the day, or whatever nonsense that is, make you feel good. its like everything, those making a lot of noise seem to get all the attention, but quality beats quantity.
  21. No FFL FYI I notice Pyramid Air has a few items in stock that have been very scarce for going on 2 years, good time to snag something in stock.
  22. I was just north of your neck of the woods this morning and spotted a brown nylon collared doe feeding along one of the backroads. First time seeing a n. american wild animal with a collar. Checked and it seems CT DEEP collared a bunch of animals western CT at various times.
  23. Well, I’m a real American. I make sure all my junk ends up in a landfill before I max out my credit card buying more junk from China to replace it.
