My area is getting locked up in lease and pay to hunt as well. I wish I could find a lease. I knock on barn doors all the time and Im about 95% failure. Really really sucks. Im lucky to get a few good snow hunts a season. Been thinking about trying to hit them on the water, not the fields. Toying with the idea a little. Lucky for me I have a woman whos job it is to take care of wild things. She is pretty good at jerking. She jerks it real HOT though. Should I change my name to PYGMY? ????

Man... my head is so far from work right now. Heres a snow goose teaser from a few seasons ago.

Speaking of gold.. You've all heard the (probably) urban legend about the goose with the golden gizzard?? The story goes a hunter shot a goose and found its gizzard full of gold dust/nuggets. If you think about it, its at least somewhat plausible in regards to the areas migratory geese frequent. Many years ago my uncle swore he found some gold in the gizzard. I haven't searched a gizzard in quite some time. Eating Canadas - either pluck or skin. Those whom skin cover with bacon sometimes. Stove top stuffing stuffed where the sun dont shine. Cook in an oven bag for bunch of hours in the oven. Done and pretty tasty. If its tough possible you overcooked. I've eaten BIG old honkers and they have tasted just fine. You can also make jerky. I used to do this with snows. But somehow the snows of today taste like shit compared to those of my younger days. Now Im salivating, not for eating but for hitting the corn field and duck blind. I got two new young hunters with licenses this year and one new huntress!!

One big thing missing here is PERMISSION. Unless you have a field its challenging to knock on doors. Most close on me immediately when asking. A dog is not necessary for geese. Young hunters are the dog. If not... old hunters are the dog! Though very challenging, duck hunting can be done without a dog. Not recommended. Pygmy NAILED it.. nothing like the honker THUMP. My buddy nearly got clocked in the head last spring by a falling snow goose. He had to move and it literally fell within a couple feet of him.

I went 7mm 08 a few years ago for my wifes muddy girl savage axis. It does the job with not much recoil. I then had a custom gun made for myself in 7mm 08 figuring this was a great round and I didnt want to get two different ammos. Love the gun. BUT.... I started shopping around for ammo and its just not on the shelves much in the box stores I frequent. My hunting buddy reloads for me but this is a bit of a pain as I don't see him That much. I end up buying off the shelf anyway. I see an impressive number of different 6.5 creedmore ammo choices at big box stores. It always takes me a long time to find the tiny assed section of 7mm 08. Usually one or two choices with a few boxes on the shelf. This does not make me feel real warm and fuzzy. Just know that less ammo choices for 7mm 08 than 6.5 creedmore right now. I've read comments for years now saying 6.5 is a fad and will fade away. I am beginning to think, based only on the ammo availability, this appears to be happening with 7mm 08. As for youth model or not ask yourself a few things. Up until rifle hunting hit mainstream in NY, I had exactly one gun that did everything I needed. Was a present from Dad when I was just getting legal hunting. A browning BPS pump 12. Kept and used for nearly 40 years until replaced last year. (Still going strong though) You want something like this for your son? Get him a full sized adult good quality rifle. You/he like to buy sell trade often? Get him the youth on the cheap and ready to replace next year.

A little blurry but looks like a good sized yote to me. Checked my trail cams and no bucks. A few does and coons and this thing.

I am excited to head to Italy next week and "hunt" for the elusive creature called Gooseifer!!!!! I understand he can be baited very easily with a bottle of red or white wine. I plan to purchase these locally and set them daintily on a table, overlooking the Med as I understand he enjoys these types of locations.... Seriously... goose if you are reading this Ill be in Amalfi Coast on Sat 28th. Heading north after this to Rome, Tuscany, Venice. You in or anywhere near these areas next few weeks??? If so meet for a glass of wine somewhere??? Anyone have a direct line to Goose, can you pass the message to him?

Ill be sipping a bottle or two of wine in Europe and wishing my shoulders were up to the task of drawing my bow. Back for duck season though..

There are still honest people in the world

One day walking down 34th street in NYC I stumbled on a BIG wad of cash. Sitting there on the sidewwalk staring me in the face. I stepped on it and looked around a bit. It was near one of those food trucks in the general area of a long distance bus pickup point. There was a "dude" standing there staring intently at the menu. Likely a college kid grabbing a bus and fueling a strong case of the munchies. I picked up the sizeable wad of bills. I tapped him on the shoulder and said "Hey you lose something?." He looked at me and made a funny face like WTF then the face changed to one of serious concern. He started fumbling in his pockets pulling out shit, including another wad of cash from one pocket. A loud groan and something to the effect of... "Dude.. I lost my cash from this pocket." I pulled out the wad and gave back to him and told him to be more careful. I should have asked him for some of whatever he had been smoking.. There are a few of us around. -
A few years ago for some reason there were bears on my hunting buddies place. He got a younger bear to which i had some sausage he had made with the meat. That was hands down the very very best sausage I have ever eaten. I cant understand why people are saying the meat is not so good.

Where do you work?? Address??

I definitely would contact DEC officer. Get it on record and tell DEC you dont want them to speak to the neighbor yet. If (or WHEN) something happens in the future there will be a record of this clown and his actions. It cant hurt whatsoever... and can only potentially help you. I would not hesitate.

I wonder how pizza fed bear tastes compared to corn fed bear.

The wind is blowing, it’s raining, chilly, overcast... almost perfect duck hunting weather. I got my hunting boots out last weekend and my lab was going bonkers thinking we were going.
-
Y they are trying hard to push me out of there, nearly successful. Sadly, the land owner is buying the safety thing hook line and sinker. He let me know very clearly this past weekend that if I put up the blind I was done hunting there. Summits are scary to me and made in China. Lone wolf I have read about some and its on the list to research.
-
I was using a ground blind until the land owner said his buddies who hunt next property over were afraid of shooting me in the blind. They complained as they didn't know if I was in the blind or not so I should not be allowed to put a blind up due to safety reasons. Apparently even during bow they are somehow worried they will launch an arrow through my tent so I cant put up the blind. I wish I were making this up. I am looking for a climber and desperately trying to buy some land. This morning actually spent ton of time looking at climbers. Found an American made Cougar Claw climber I am researching. I want to stay with USA made if possible and seems to be.

Y this is actually good advice. You are right. My town has a chat group of sorts and I wondered if I was going to find my picture on there. This woman was a piece of work. I didn't even reprimand the dog THAT much. Wife was unhappy at me for saying shit. This woman was quite a ways from me though. She must have seen me and chased after or come out of a store or something. This was not the only time.. Different person same town a bunch of years ago when my lab was being trained. I was teaching her to heel and walk at my side. I had a yard stick that I would hold off to my side and the dog couldnt walk in front of me with the yard stick there. I was trying to teach her not to pull and only walk side by side. So what happens? Some nutcase old lady stops her car in the middle of the road and starts screaming at me about beating my dog with the yard stick. She stopped traffic while on her tirade. She was out of her car, and started screaming I beat my dog. Then she started beeping the horn and saying Hey everyone this guy beats his dog. Seriously WTF....

Oh it was horrible... I had nightmares last night picturing this horrid creature! I was out walking my dog, minding my own business. My lab decided she wanted to eat someones discarded chicken wing bones off the sidewalk. I had to wrestle with her but finally with dog slobbered hands, I removed the last of the bones from her mouth. Before surrendering them, she tried to escape my grasp by not so intelligently pulling away into the street. Not far, but she was clearly in the road. The heel command (or anything else) was not working during this so I pulled her body into heel (out of the street) and yelled at her. Crisis over, I sauntered down the road.. thats when IT appeared! It was an unsightly beast! Very overweight, long hideous scraggly hair unkempt, face that nightmares are made of .Flapping her arms, waving her hands. She started to bellow in a raspy voice... "EXCUSE ME". Over and over she bellowed until I caught her eye. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING TO THAT DOG?" She bellowed.. a cold chill went through my spine. I swore at that point I could smell a very bad odor coming from this foul creature. "YOU DONT DESERVE SUCH A NICE DOG.. PULLING HER LIKE THAT" On and on she went about what an ass I was. This foul creature even went so far as to ask me how I would like to be tied up and pulled. I looked this creature in the face and told her.. "I WOULD LOVE YOU TO TIE ME UP! OH BABY"... Then I made some kissy kissy kissy noises, gave her a one finger salute and moved on down the road...

Jeep wangler/ Rubicon how do they drive ?
Al Bundy replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
My JL Sahara gets about same gas mileage as my pathfinder. It is loud though. A few weeks ago I looked at the Jeep Pickup. That might be the next purchase. Ford is working on the Bronco to compete with Jeep. It should be out somewhat soon. Also rumors there will be a bronco type pick up. -
Thanks for the ideas. The walls/screens need to be redone. The wood is starting to rot a little, the screens are starting to rip. I am reaching the point of needing a rebuild hence need for ideas. The 6mil plastic looks like it would work well. I am also thinking used pellet stove. Not really into the hot tub for some reason.

I’m thinking somewhat about enclosing my gazebo. It’s not quite gazebo, but a 13x13 concrete floor with some basic screened wall of sorts. it does have a shingled roof. I like sitting out here and think it would be nice in the winter. I’m trying to figure the best way to do this without having someone frame and put in windows. Also how best to heat . Then figure if the cost is worth it. The design/materials and how to are not my strong skills. Any suggestions?

I use luminocks and love it. Its a plug and play. Screw into the end of the bolt and that is it. It lights on its way to the deer. I notice nothing different about the bolt flying funny. Hell of lot easier to find an arrow at dusk when its lit up. My one bitch about luminocks it its a bit tricky to shut off. You have to press it and frig around sometimes to get it off. Its worth it though.

Depends on who you ask.. Ask me and its mine, unless my wife is around. Then its hers. EDIT: Whups.. quote didnt work. Was quoting Biz..
