  1. No, Cornell co-op. I called the local place and they said pretty much the same thing. Figuring this year, since I'm coming into it late, probably plant winter rye / wheat in late August / early September. Did get a disc harrow bought and moved up there today though! One of the gangs needs to be rebuilt.
  2. I wish to crap I could just get SOMEbody to come log my property. 2500 trees marked and nobody is biting. Not that the territory is rough or anything.
  3. God damn, what a stud. Love the mount too! I'd go with pic #2 looking straight at you, first thing you'll notice is how tall he is, then when someone goes to have a closer look they'll see the sticker!
  4. They certainly did on the 5000 acres of land on the way in to my property. They clear cut in a striped pattern in one side, and thinned the crap out of the forest on the other side of the road. It WAS nothing but 100 foot pines planted during the CCC.
  5. Only did the top half in stain, can't see any reason to do the bottom half?
  6. Bottom is this year, top will be next year. In between is all scrub. Lots and lots of rubs in that scrubby stuff. That hedge row to the north has about 14 apple trees in it too. Flying Outhouse is what my wife is calling the raised blind I'm building. We brush hogged some trails in that scrub last year, going to add one around the perimeter this year.
  7. FL, I'm like you, extremely allergic to it. Nothing ever stopped it from spreading, not even steroids, UNTIL!!!!!!! *drumroll* https://www.zanfel.com/ This stuff WORKS man. I keep at least a tube in my medicine cabinet at all times. It ain't cheap, but they sell it at CVS. IIRC it's about 40$ a tube. Follow the directions, put about a 3 inch line of it on your hands, rub it together to active it, then : Use it to scratch sh!t out of your poison ivy, preferably in the shower. Really work it into the rash. It neutralizes the chemical thats causing the rash, and keeps it from spreading. After round 1, if it's still itching, rinse and repeat. Face is tricky, not sure how pretty you are but it tends to bleed a bit if you really dig into it. I just used some about 2 days on a little bit I had on my elbow, stopped it cold. Edit: I know it's pricey, but don't be stingy with it. Do a 3 inch line for each major spot, let it sit in for about 3 minutes, then wash it off. After an hour if it's still itching in any spot, hit it again the same way.
  8. There shouldn't be any blind spots : it's a 6x4, the 24"x10" windows going in on each end, then 2 sets of each on both front and back. Should have a 360 view. I think sometime today I'm going to grab some dark walnut stain I have from a wood project and stain the crap out of the inside of it. This is something I hadn't thought of, and thank all you guys for your tips/tricks & advice!
  9. Local co-op said the soil pH was 6.6, but the extended lab results said the following : LABORATORY RESULTS Soil pH: 5.6 (Low) Phosphorus (P): 2 lbs/Acre (Very Low) Potassium (K): 137 lbs/Acre (Medium) Organic Matter: 5.9 % Correct me if I'm wrong, but Phosphorous is key to antler growth isn't it? Anything I can do about that? Here's the recommendation on what to add to bring everything up to normal : Soil pH Adjustment Soil pH is low. Apply 16 pounds of lime per 100 square feet and be sure to incorporate the lime into the upper 6" of soil. - My uncle said it would take about 1000 lbs of lime to do this 1/2 acre plot, since he's a retired, successful farmer I'll probably just go with that. Phosphorus (P) Soil P level is very low. Broadcast about 6.0 ounces of phosphate (P2O5) per 100 square feet prior to planting and work into the upper 2-4" of soil. -What would I use, and in what amount, to cover about 1/2 an acre? I'm in the dark on this one. Is there a generic fertlizer that would contain the phosphate necessary? Any advice is appreciated!
  10. Hey man, the comfortable you are when you're out, the longer you hunt! Reaching critical mass yet on stand maintenance per year?
  11. Yeah, that's a solid point. Bill of materials on this ran up fast. I over engineer the crap out of things. 2 most expensive parts were the brackets, and the windows. By the time I'm done it will be right around 1000. Not the end of the world, and when you compare it to one of those prefabs still cheap.
  12. Good leopard bait too? That's probably not an option in this day and age is it?
  13. Thanks! Yeah I'd planned on the 12 footers. Should have just 1 more run to home Depot left, just for the 4x4's, bolts, screws, cross braces and lag bolts. You use structural screws or lag bolts for the cross braces? Going to try and get it painted this week, then wait for the windows to come in. Once the windows are installed, take apart the roof + 4 walls, install the brackets to the base, then add the 4x4's. At that point it will be time to get it loaded up and out to the property. Still in the fence about sinking holes for the legs. How does the thing not shift and frost heave if you don't bury legs? In the field, you put the legs/4x4's on, cross brace it, then use a quad + tractor to flip it upright? Thanks again for all the help Greendrake, probably saved me alot of mistakes!
  14. You're an animal Gman. Working myself up to this level of land management is my goal. Get 1 plot established this year, and the new blind, trim some apple trees out, and I'll be happy.
  15. DEWALT 20V MAX Cordless Drill/Driver with 15-Piece Drive Tool Accessory Set (DCD771C2 & DWMT73807) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RP4TMVX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lknlDbYC33A1C Got a cordless drill, pretty good deal.
  16. I'm thinking top half will be more gray, probably add some pine green to it. Going right in that brushy stuff between that buck and doe.
  17. Congratulations, how'd you make it through the teenage years with your daughters? Where did you hide the teenage boys with the bad mustaches bodies? Not for me, asking for a friend.......
  18. Structure is done, once it's in the field I'm going to have another hundred or so screws to put in to tie it all together. Was thinking of putting a brown coat of paint on it, then a gray in a tree branch pattern to break up the outline.
  19. They're getting pretty big! She's had all 10 for about a month now.
  20. I would have done metal, except the sound factor. I get that the deer would be used to it, but Id prefer it quiet as possible .
  21. One tap too many with a hammer will punch a hole in it, only hapoened once, was really careful after that. The foam ridges you can buy for it, I just tacked them to the frame, laid the roof over top. Worked out good because I could see where the troughs were going to be so it lined up with the frame.
