  1. I can still get on, but the site had a major remodel a few weeks ago. I don't know why you would bother though. That site is largely dead, in my view. I think most of the former members migrated to nygunforum.com a while back.
  2. My parents are getting it tomorrow. The single-dose option seems like a solid development. I got the first Pfizer shot yesterday and now I have to take another Saturday morning to get the second dose in a couple of weeks. I'd trade some potential efficacy to avoid the inconvenience. Then again, I am young and healthy, so your mileage may vary.
  3. After I bought enough land to only see people when I want to, I'd use a substantial portion of it to screw with the people in my life. I'd create a trust to make an annual donation to the NRA/GOA in my anti-gun mother-in-law's name. It would be complete with a statement and thank you card mailed to her every year. I'd also pay someone to put something slightly sticky on her door knob every morning. Not overly sticky. Just enough to be annoying. I'd buy a small chunk of land next to my dad's house, erect a billboard, and put "Trump 4 Ever" in 8-foot red letters. It would have flood lights so he can see it at night. I'd also pay a cop to follow him any time he leaves the house and pull him over the second he goes 31 in a 30. They will always take a while to run his license and registration and then remind him how lucky he is to get a warning. I'd hire Randy Newman to follow my sister and sing about what is doing as she does it. I'm a simple man.
  4. One of my fondest childhood memories is watching old westerns with my dad on Saturday afternoons. I bet I can quote most of John Wayne's movies by heart.
  5. I'm not an HVAC expert, but my personal philosophy is to have an expert out any time there are issues combining gas and electricity. It's not worth blowing up my house to save a $200 service call.
  6. It's amazing how stark the snow band border can be, isn't it? Back during the November surprise I was living in Amherst and I could see my lawn. My parents 15 minutes south in Cheektowaga had over 7 feet of snow.
  7. Had the driveway down to dry pavement last night here in Elma. Woke up to just shy of a foot and still coming.
  8. "A regular season deer tag is valid for use only during the regular big game seasons and is valid for the taking of an antlered deer only, except: . . . (ii) During the late archery or late muzzleloading seasons hunters authorized to hunt in those seasons may use a regular season deer tag for a deer of either sex." 6 N.Y.C.R.R. 1.18(d)(1)(ii).
  9. I saw this in the paper this morning. It's a small parcel, but hopefully more public land will reduce some of the pressure on other parcels close to Buffalo.
  10. Has anyone in WNY been out for steelhead in the tribs yet? I made it out for a few hours this past Saturday on an Erie County tributary. Visibility was awful where I was, but we did see one guy land a nice fish. Of course, our group got skunked.
  11. I think you are both partially correct. There are four degrees of Criminal Trespass in NY, and all require that the person "enter or remain unlawfully" on the land in question. A person "enters of remains unlawfully" upon property when he/she "in not licensed or privileged to do so." N.Y. Penal Law Section 140.00(5). However, the definition of "enter of remain unlawfully" also states: "A person who enters or remains upon unimproved and apparently unused land, which is neither fenced nor otherwise enclosed in a manner designed to exclude intruders, does so with license and privilege unless notice against trespass is personally communicated to him by the owner of such land or other authorized person, or unless such notice is given by posting in a conspicuous manner." Penal Law Section 140.00(5). So, as I read the statute, if the property is unposted, unimproved, and not otherwise enclosed in a manner designed to exclude intruders, the "trespasser" may lawfully be on the property until told otherwise.
  12. A few years back I was on this internet forum for hunters in New York. Some guy named Larry was selling a set of fireplace tools and I wanted to get them as a housewarming gift for my parents. I figured I'd grab the tools, give him the money, and be on my way. The guy comes out of the house and introduces himself. We shake hands and start shooting the shit. We got to talking about hunting, and he invited me in to see some of his custom rifles and mounts. The guy had bigger racks just tossed in the corner of his basement than I have seen in the woods. He offered me a beer and I wound up petting his lab for about an hour while we swapped hunting stories. Anyway, the guy was a real weirdo.
  13. I've been checking in on this thread daily and hoping it's gone. It doesn't help that I live about 10 minutes from you.
  14. Call Pete at Affordable Lawn Care. He's located in Dale, but operates around the Buffalo area. I had septic work done and he is doing my grading and seeding in a few weeks. He came in 20% cheaper than the others and includes more in his service. He came pretty highly recommended.
  15. I see you hunt in Catt. County...
  16. I smoke Montecristo No. 4s whenever I can. As much as I smoke, I'd be broke if I smoked them exclusively. Now, I smoke them on special occasions and with clients (since I can get them reimbursed in that case).
  17. My group has been shooting TTSX for a few years now. I have seen 7 deer shot with them in .308, .270, and .30-06, and all 7 deer combined for a total of 40 yards travelled after being shot. I highly recommend them.

    Red neck

Let's see... I grew up in a suburb and got an education. I work as a commercial litigator in a large-ish law firm. If it's during business hours, I am probably wearing a suit and tie. My truck is pretty clean (though there's no carpet in the bed). I generally use proper english. I prefer scotch to beer. I am politically conservative, but probably not for the reasons that you think. I haven't been to church since I was 14 and I don't intend to go in the future unless someone gets married or dies. At the same time, I love the outdoors, fast cars, big trucks, and immature jokes. When I'm not wearing a suit and tie, I wear greasy jeans and boots. I sometimes chew Redman. If I'm going to drink beer, its the cheapest stuff I can find and comes in a can. I fix my own things, and do my own work around the house. If I see free pallets behind a building, I take them...just in case. I turned my shed into a duck house and there are currently 6 ducks in there laying farm-fresh eggs. So, am I a redneck? Who the hell knows...
  19. If you were dressed for work, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought you were another suit they could take advantage of. I went to TSC for poultry feed yesterday in my work clothes (suit and tie) and they looked at me like I was from another planet. Meanwhile, last winter I went to Jos Bank to cash out a gift card in a greasy sweatshirt, jeans, and boots, and the salesmen asked me if I "had ever worn a suit before." lol
  20. I am not shooting instinctive. I am gap shooting/point of aim shooting. I would like to shoot a fixed crawl, but everything I have read says that's tough without an ILF bow. My in-laws are actually fleeing Amherst for the Carolinas in the next few months (retirement), but I live in Elma and work in Buffalo, so I may just take you up on that.
  21. Ha! I can guarantee I am overbowed. I bought 45 pound limbs thinking that it was much lighter than my compound, and, in any event, I'm a fairly strong guy (granted, not moog-level, but I can hold my own in the gym). I wish I had seen Moog's advice on this forum ahead of time and bought a light bow until my form was down pat. Drawing is not a problem. But drawing, holding at full draw, and concentrating on form throughout the draw cycle is humbling.
  22. 8 inch brace height. Hitting square in the middle of the forearm. Halfway between the wrist and elbow. What does a proper release look like? I've only have to touch off a release for the last 12 years and I haven't shot a recurve since cub scouts.
  23. I recently switched from a compound bow to a recurve. Bought a Samick Sage. I have noticed since I started shooting it that I hit my bow arm with the string about half the time. This was never a problem with my compound. I know it is obviously a form problem, but I have no idea what I am doing wrong specifically. I grip the bow so my bow hand is at a 45 degree angle and the throat is resting in the meaty part of my thumb. I know it isn't my grip. Originally, I was trying to draw too far. It took some getting used to not having a back wall like a compound. Once I corrected that, I cut down on the frequency significantly. So, what other form problems would lead to string slap besides grip and overextending?
  24. Mind if I ask what county? The cheapest I see it go for south of Buffalo is around $1k an acre.
