If you're looking for affordable, I have a CVA wolf. Gun, scope, sling, and basic supplies were less than $300. I also have a T/C Hawken I picked up at a gun show for $200. Can't really go wrong either way.

Two years ago we moved my friend's ladder stand at noon on day two of the season. She shot the biggest buck any of us have seen in the woods from that stand that evening. I say go for it if you think it's a materially better place.
-
What are the stats on the distribution of gun kills throughout the season? I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that more deer are killed in the first week anyway. How much would the shorter season reduce the take?

Someone call a doctor for predate. I think he's having a stroke.

What bullet are you using this season

I'll admit it's for selfish reasons on my part. My wife and I will be having kids in the next few years, and the science is pretty clear on lead's effects on cognitive development. These kids are already starting life with half my genes. Why handicap them further? -
And just like that this thread crashed without even leaving the runway.

Barnes Vor-Tx TTSX 150 gr .308. I made the switch to copper solids to keep as much lead out of our food as possible. I've seen two deer shot with them so far and both dropped in their tracks. I don't think there is any compromise in performance. -
Clearly, you've been to Cattaraugus County.

In a ladder stand we call "eagle's nest" 30 feet up a tree 3/4 of the way up the ridge. Open hardwoods with a view of a country mile. I just wish I could shoot half as well as that stand allows for.

My buddy texts me at least 4 times a day with new weather forecasts. SO far it has gone from sunny and 70s to snowy and 30s, to torrential downpours, and back. I'm done. I'll just wake up Saturday morning and be surprised.

If anyone can get downfield and win the game with 1:47 it's Brady. I hate it.

125 miles each way for me. Leaving Friday after work.

I'm with Phade, my 870 likes Remington Accutips.

Not to detract from your point, but you can marry your cousin in NY. I suppose that's even more reason not to let politicians define your morals. Carry on.
-
But not in terms of playoff discussion, which is really what both teams are hoping for at this point.

I can get behind that. Poaching is unethical because it violates principles of fair chase and deprives others of their legal opportunities. It is not unethical, however, simply by virtue of being illegal. That's all my point is.
-
To be clear, I'm not defending poachers. I'm simply pointing out that tying your ethical views to the law in an absolute fashion, as some have, is a dangerous proposition. This is especially true when the laws are written by arguably the least ethical group in society. Are poaching and human rights violations the same thing? Of course not. It just isn't a good idea, in my mind, to say in absolute terms that a person who breaks the law is automatically a morally corrupt individual in all instances.
-
The #1 defense presented at the Nuremburg trials. Thank god those guys didn't do anything unethical. You know, like refuse to participate in a legally-sanctioned/mandated genocide.
-
You don't think it's a bit of a stretch to say that your ethics are always in question when you break the law? As a general matter, I mean. After all, at one point in time it was a violation of federal law not to return a runaway slave to his owner. It's admittedly an extreme example, but I don't think you can make a blanket statement that it's ALWAYS unethical to break the law, or that your ethics are even automatically "in question." I don't like people shooting deer after sunset mostly because it deprives law-abiding hunters of a potential opportunity, but the moral absolutism gives me as much pause as the devil may care attitude of the OP. I should mention that I don't shoot deer outside legal hours. It's just not worth risking my hunting license.
-
I saw that. One form of colorblindness is the inability to differentiate between red and green. Tough break in last night's game. A friend was saying everyone looked to same to him. One side was just slightly darker, but not enough to make it an easy game to watch.

Without wading into the substance of this thread, what I think is most interesting here is how many people tie ethics to the law. What I mean is how many people consider it unethical just to break a written law without any regard for the nature of the illegal behavior itself.

Just started a new job and a new career in August. I have been so busy I missed the entire bow season for the first time since I started hunting. I'm hoping to be far enough ahead that I can hunt weekends in gun.

Great buck, Larry. Congrats!
