  1. Sure walks like a cat but my dog walked like that the other day when she had a dingleberry stuck in her fur under her tail, lol
  2. Probably the best and only thing the wife and I learned at birthing classes before our daughter was born: If you get a leg cramp: pinch the spot of skin between your nose and your mouth. I kid you not, it works!
  3. I throw out my bear tag the day I get them so I'm no help .Would rather see them and give someone else the opportunity to see it as well. Not opposed to people hunting them just not my cup of tea. I guess scouting would be my only tip
  4. Gander Mtn totally revamped store and loaded for bear in prep for Cabela's but I agree on their demise. Still peeved at what Cabela's offered me to work there. A joke ! Hopefully they get some good help for what little they pay.
  5. Love the aerial combat from these little guys
  6. Gorgeous. Went to the Wild animal center last summer. First time in the area, and it's beautiful up there.
  7. Not being a bowhunter I've got some stupid questions: What's the advantage of mechanical blades vs fixed? More cutting surface? Better penetration? A friend once told me that mechanical blades may not open properly, any truth to this. Every year I say I'm going to buy a bow and take the course, Every year I don't. Turkey hunting is my passion and everyone tells me I'd love it too.
  8. What he said 2x Buddy caught 19 grinners on 9 acres before catching a few fox and coyotes. Had to thin out those double yellow line straddling silver fox. Coon are alot of work for the return. Muskrats are easy and plentiful for good $. I second the trapping of coon. Complete trapping course and buy some DP traps. They are so easy to catch. The DP's will help eliminate catching grinners and stinkers too.
  9. Mountain lion strain of hogweed ? Heard the DEC released it in NY
  10. Just got back from Ithaca where all the deer we saw around town had radio collars on them. Talked to the law while grabbing some breakfast. Said deer are a real problem there as most of Ithaca is granola like and opposed to hunting. But then he also mentioned the influx of wolves are helping to reduce them, lol.
  11. Anybody try any of these yet? We made the onions again tonight
  12. Pork tenderloin, dry rubbed with apple jalapeno jelly on the smoker, corn fritters with some syrup, and the onion, butter and beef bullion wrapped in foil off the grill. A couple of Sierra Nevadas complilation assortment beers from Beer Camp
  13. My folks also have one. Ah yes, a little maintance is needed with these by snipping any rogue all green leafs . Only a few snips a year or you end up with all green sections.
  14. Parents gave this tree to our soon to be 12 year old daughter when she turned 1. Love this tree
  15. This stuff gives you similar burn to skin when contact with sap/juice gets on you. I see it along Rte 77 and 20A , and alot of it Wild parsnips Here's link to pic and description http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEViZETdlT5moAwqQPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMG04Z2o2BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkAw--/RV=2/RE=1406778821/RO=10/RU=http%3a%2f%2fwww.ipm.iastate.edu%2fipm%2ficm%2f2007%2f7-9%2fpoison.html/RK=0/RS=owKIxFPUOeh6YVzuwTLPDKYC0WU-
  16. 250 grain shockwaves here too. Pushed out with 150 grains of 777. I know the extra 50 grains is wasted on a non complete burn but still shoot it . I've shot gun with 100 and 150 grains zeroed with 100 and noticed no difference. Of 7-8 deer I've shot, none have gone more than 40 yards. Carrying it instead of slug gun this season. I only shoot once and more comfortable with how dang accurate it is.Dang, now I can't wait til deer season
  17. Never saw mulberries around before, neat. Did land some gooseberries over the weekend though.
  18. So I just received the second one ring and hangup phone call on my cell phone. Someone told me that they try and get you to call back and somehow whack you with charges. Not sure how it works or the truth to this matter but just throwing this out there in case it's truly a scam. A minute ago was VT on caller ID and the other day TX. Generally if a name associated with # doesn't come up on caller ID I'm not answering anyhow. Just googled and found this: http://ri.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEVu6X39ZT5T8AY20PxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMG04Z2o2BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkAw--/RV=2/RE=1406619672/RO=10/RU=http%3a%2f%2fwww.consumer.ftc.gov%2fblog%2fone-ring-cell-phone-scam-can-ding-your-wallet/RK=0/RS=M2o4b82m07D7UxaxU_0cKU7UgsI-
  19. This year i hear the prices are going to be down compared to the last couple. Are you going to selling fur on the whole or skinning and stretching at selling at NAFA auction? Like said above, skip beaver trapping . Way to much time and effort for what little return you'll get. Coon are a lot of work as well with all the fleshing the fat off and little $.( If putting up your own fur-fleshing board needed, fleshing tool, make a tail stripper) Muskrats have been fetching the most pound for pound so to speak at average of $12 per pelt put up. Fox were going pretty good too. Mink only fair pricing but darn fun to catch. Coyotes are a bust and those stink dogs stink but happy to eliminate some of them. Buddy puts up all his grinners and stinkers too. He caught it so he'll put it up, those few dollars add up in the end. Wire stretchers are ok but you can get dimensions and how to make your own wooden stretchers. Wood seems to give a nice finished product more so than wire. Thumb tacks for the split tail. Pan covers for coilsprings could be those mesh or i use wax paper that has been crinkled up. Prepare some wax dirt for when the temps drop. And more than you think you may need for the year. Cable stakes are nice because of the wait and how secure they stake ( eliminates some trap theft too) but I typically cross stake 2 pieces of 24" rebar. Make a dirtsifter Keep lures separate from traps. I agree on buying good traps. Even Dukes ( have reputation of being lousy) can be modified with night latching, swivels , jaw tips bent etc. 1.5's are great for coon . 1.75's modified for fox and yote but a little bigger preferred for yotes. Buddy caught a 48 pound big female this year. Make yourself a catchpole to release undesirables. You don't to be wrestling with a po'd smaller coon etc. The less lure the better IMO. As mentioned you can use sumac to dye or walnut husks. Do not wax conibears! Check out the hay set for when creeks freeze on fox., killer for me. Jump on trapperman.com for some great info. If setting muskrat traps in high visibility areas, take a fishing pole with you to hide what you're really doing. Sometimes I'll scout these areas in day and mark with plastic bottles found along the creek or ditch. Then set them in the dark, maybe check once during the night and pull them in the morning. You can hit rats fast and hard this way. If you're stuffing good holes and runs properly you can make the most out of it quickly. I use a piece of rope to set my 220's by running it thru the rings twice and pulling up and standing on the jaws. It's also a good way to remove the trap from your hand. Tough to do without the rope. Not that i have any experience with a 220 bracelet or anything : ) (back to my do not wax conibears comment) The only bad part about trapping is complete overlap with deer season. If searching for areas to trap. Start now. Knock on farmers doors and ask if they need some coyote removal. I'm sure they'll allow you to trap their ditches too . Good luck and hope some of this helps. Don't forget to order your copper trap tags now. Use your license # instead of your addy IMO.
  20. It's the leaf blower that'll draw attention : )
