  1. Thanks Joe. That is what I was reading too, what I find confusing is all the 58 and 60 inch bows I am seeing. I actually picked up a 1970's 58 inch Bear Grizzly for a good price. Guess I will have to sell it and look for a longer bow. I have always wanted to shoot a recurve and possibly deer hunt with one if I got to that point.Oh well I knew it was going to be a lot different than a compound.
  2. Still confused. A 29 inch draw length needs a 66 inch recurve length ? I don't see many of that size available to buy. I must be missing something.
  3. http://www.3riversarchery.com/Fletch-Tite+Platinum++Feather+Glue_i5053X_baseitem.html This is suppossed to be for feathers on all arrow material. I shoot vanes so I have not used this.
  4. With a recurve bow used for hunting deer, how is the correct individuals length of the bow determined ? I drew back a 50# amo 58 inch bow but my hand was in front of my face at full draw. I am confused by what I have read on the internet about bow length.I have not gone to an archery shop yet.
  5. I clean weapons after firing or if wet. During deer or turkey season I may not clean a shotgun if I fired until after the season. Interestingly I bought a Marlin .22 recently and the owners manual states "Since modern ammunition burns very cleanly, with normal use IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CLEAN THE BORE OF YOUR RIFLE." They only recommend cleaning if wet or foreign material is in the action or bore. I think I will still clean the firearm after a few hundred rounds are fired.
  6. I was surprised to read pigs eat fawns.I wouldn't have guessed that.

  8. Very interesting. This site is very educational ( had to try this ).
  9. Is that farm open to the public ? What is the purpose of the deer , meat or urine sales maybe ?
  10. Did you move that blind closer to where the deer were after that ? I would have tried getting closer to that corner the buck was in. Do you think those doe were nervous because of the decoy or did they catch your videotaping movement or reflection ?
  11. Can't say I have had much luck with scents.Years ago I had a black walnut tree. When the green fruit fell it was very strong smelling.I would put several in a plastic bag with my clothes as a cover scent.
  12. Excellent again Wooly, thanks for posting the story too.
  13. Many landowners are leasing which makes available land harder to find. What about state land ?
  14. Interesting that Field and Stream gave them a "Best" rating but the independent tester didn't.

  16. I have not hunted there myself but I know a couple guys who have bowhunted there and saw some nice deer.A co-worker lives near there in Greece - bow only zone and he sees big deer behind his house all the time.Call region 8 DEC and ask if they have any info available.I did years ago and they mailed me some info.
  17. Thanks guys, I'm sure fresh is a little better than frozen but I am usually a little tired after hunting and butchering. I want to try canning this year hopefully.
  18. I salute you guys that take a turkey with bow. That is a real accomplishment of hunting to me.
  19. Does canning have to be done with fresh venison or will thawed from the freezer venison work if it is not too old ? In other words is it o.k. to can venison a month or two after processing ?
  20. I've heard that sound. That is why I like bowhunting -I haven't had an arrow fly past me yet
  21. My 132 gross eight pointer was taken opening day 2005 in ....... drum roll please - Sodus. I had permission to hunt on a 5 acre plot in another part of Sodus too and saw some nice deer. Things got a little crowded at times so I didn't hunt there last year but was thinking about it this year. Some of the old growth woods out there hold some beautiful bucks too.I say go for it.
