  1. Just getting in to traditional archery.I'm hoping by next year to be competent to hunt. I have learned much and have much more to learn but it is captivating. I am trying to win an auction on a fletching jig right now so that I can re-fletch some aluminum arrows. I will work at it as time allows.Good luck to all you hunters keeping the old way alive.
  2. Congratulations , I enjoyed the story.
  3. Eddie do you still have the aluminum arrows in 2117 size ? I would take them off your hands.Thanks.
  4. I had my garbage toter stolen this summer (with garbage in it) and like the policeman said if it's not nailed down someone will take it.I know it must have been kids screwing around as it was found tipped over about a half mile mile away .If your garbage isn't safe nothing is.Too many people will steal and sell things and not even bat an eye these days.
  5. I enjoyed what you wrote noodle one.I share your enjoyment of the peaceful spirit of the woods it is very calming and spiritually energizing.I can't explain why but I just feel I belong there.I dislike looking at a clock too probably because I don't wan't my hunting time to end.
  6. My son is 18 1/2 and just started college. While I had always hoped he and I would hunt together one day , I knew years ago it wasn't going to happen.Just not in his personality to kill anything. I don't have a problem with that, hunting is a personal choice. We target shoot, hike and eat venison together so that is fine.My 15 year old nephew scored 100 % on his hunting safety course test and I told him I would take him deer hunting this year.I hope we can go and that he likes it.I will never forget hunting with my uncle. All we can do is try.
  7. I have red and black Woolrich pants.Love them.Warm, quiet and comfortable.
  8. Image 8 looks like a button buck. What do you think ? Need to get a camera to put behind a friends house.
  9. I put fiber optic rifle sights that mount on the vent rib of my shotgun last year.Sighted it in at about 50 yds with Remington 1 oz. sluggers and a cylander choke.Shot a big doe about 40 yds away as she stood in some cedars looking at me while I raised my shotgun from behind a tree.I rarely get a shot past 50 yds. so I went back to shooting rifled slugs at $3.50 a box instead of $6.00 - $7.00 sabots.(And those were the cheap ones). My father killed deer with his modified choke smoothbore using only a bead sight and that gun was accurate at 100 yds.
  10. I went yesterday and had a fun time.Co-worker also enjoyed the event.I hadn't gone in 5-7 years but I want to go next year too. I watched some kids try shooting some clay birds and archery, sampled some food products, talked to people I can relate to and picked up an older leather arrow quiver for $10.Had a good time.Oh and the co-worker paid for parking because I drove.Beautiful weather too.
  11. Planning on going Sun. morning with a co-worker. Buffalo burger sounds good.I have not been to this show in at least 5 years so I am looking forward to it.
  12. Soooo the key word here is PEAR . Find the pear trees everyone!
  13. I was at work when someone mentioned that a plane had hit the World Trade Center.Sometime later I heard about a second plane and that this was not an accident.People were trying to work but also wanted more information which was only available to those with radios.I remember telling my supervisor that it was hard to concentrate when our country was under attack.Later we learned about the Pentagon and flight 93. I remember feeling shocked ,helpless, sad and angry in the days that followed.I also remember how quiet the skies were for days after due to all air traffic being grounded.
  14. Eddie you better go back to using Tink's because it sounds like everyone is switching to Code Red.
  15. I put the new string on today with the sweet bowstringer I bought and it feels much more comfortable. The old string was about an inch shorter so that didn't help. The new brace height is aprox 7 3/4 inches which should be in the ball park.Next the arrows need work and a knock. Man I like that bowstringer.
  16. Thanks for all the info so far I appreciate all of it.My short term goal is to shoot this recurve bow, long term is to try hunting with it, maybe next season if all goes well.I ordered a new dacron string @ 54 inches length and a bow stringer. Next will be refletching arrows and finally trying to shoot.I have been reading a lot online and watching youtube videos which are very helpful. So the adventure has begun and I have expanded my vocabulary to include words like dacron, brace height, limb twist, and hand shock. I do have to practice with my compound too for the upcoming bow season .
  17. Before you do that.. check you sting length to make sure it is right... that can cause a problem if the string isn't the right size... also check the brace hieght to make sure that is correct also.. you should still be able to use a shorter bow unless you have your draw length wrong I will check the string it may be short. I did check my draw length it is 29 inches using that method on your link. Thanks for the advice!
  18. Thanks biggamefish I appreciate the info. I ran across the Grizzly and jumped on it before I really knew much about recurves.I had heard that the length wasn't that critical from someone else too. I think I will find a shop and see what they have to tell me too. I am hoping to try shooting the bow but the arrows that came with it need re-fletching first. I figured if the bow didn't work out I could re-sell it they seem to be pretty collectable. I'll let you know if I decide to sell it.
  19. Beautiful pictures. Frame that owl picture.
