I like to keep in mind that until just a few years ago, today would have been the archery opener. Even then I rarely started hunting hard anywhere until the last week of October. The first 3 weeks of October are a transition time for bucks between summer and the rut. Trying to hunt that transition is usually an exercise in frustration, and spending three weeks doing it can cause very early burnout and a negative attitude.

Patent for Hunting Product?
philoshop replied to BizCT's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
It's not likely you'll ever be compensated monetarily for your input, but it's possible that they would include your name in the new product if you push hard enough. "The new and improved Biz-R-O grunt call" or something. Sorry. -
Patent for Hunting Product?
philoshop replied to BizCT's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
You want a patent attorney who knows something about the particular market. And it takes a pit bull to defend intellectual property or you'll lose it in a heartbeat. Been there, done that. If you don't care about the rights, send the idea to companies that have the resources to develop, manufacture, and market it. They're very open to free ideas and suggestions. It cuts down on their R&D costs, and if they get the slightest whiff of it they'll steal it from you anyway. -
Average age of hunting ny members post your age

I've got just about 513,000 hours on me. I've been worked hard, but I've been pretty well-maintained, overall. Make an offer. -

Making it easier to get the young folks involved. Thanks dinorocks! -
From the article: "In April, City Hall estimated that between 1,918 and 2,188 deer roam Staten Island — four times the number reported in 2008, officials said." It's always interesting when "estimates" are given in such precise figures. I'm not commenting on the article per se, just the fact that it was likely only two people were asked about deer numbers. DEC? Residents? Vacationers or campers? There are somewhere between 1,988 and 2,188 worms in my lawn right now. I'm absolutely sure of that. Anyway, if the guy's been doing something illegal I hope he pays for it to the full extent of the law. Maybe his wife will sell me his "hunting chair". Okay, the "hunting chair" thing is kind of cute.

I'm saddened by everyone's loss. Those who knew him, and those who wished they had known him. RIP Buck.

HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS
philoshop replied to ryan's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This guy clearly states at the beginning that he's operating on hearsay from some friends. He's not making these pronouncements based on what was actually said, and he's immediately attacking the NRA? And he's proclaiming that this shooting was carried out by ANTIFA? Really? First I've heard of that. He needs to get his facts straight before openly trashing the NRA. Unless, of course, he's just anti-NRA for some reason. La Pierre didn't concede anything. He put it back to the ATF to make a new determination if that's what is necessary. Bump-fire mechanisms aren't "modifications", they're accessories. And they don't 'convert' a semi-automatic firearm to an automatic firearm any more than practice and trigger finger exercises do. -
HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS
philoshop replied to ryan's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
My earlier response regarding the head-to-head competition I had was perhaps irrelevant. If the target is several acres of human beings, spray-and-pray is probably an effective technique. Mea Culpa for bringing it up. However, it doesn't take a slide-fire device to do that. On the other hand authorities are saying he had ballistics notes. If the bump-fire devices were being used with a spray-and-pray technique, ballistics tables wouldn't even come into play. -
"Assault" Weapon Bust
philoshop replied to Five Seasons's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I don't like the people in NYS who get to decide for me what's 'legal' or not. In most cases they've either forgotten, or simply dismissed, the very basics of Liberty and Freedom our country was founded upon. Little things, like the U.S. Constitution. Cuomo will be running for President soon. Expect a big push for the national name recognition that's coming. All of the people his ideological brethren dislike, including gun owners, are going to be in his crosshairs in order to boost his bona fides. Something to keep in mind. -
I stand corrected Biz. Apparently there are copperheads in NYS. I was unaware of that.

How to make guns Fully Auto

Best laugh of the day!! -
The only time I've ever seen anything like that is when a horse got very briefly tangled in fallen razor/barbed wire and the skin was cleanly torn from the muscle. A broadhead would not cleanly 'circumcise' a dog's leg.

I seem to recall policy that was just the opposite of that. If the round could be fired in a rifle, there was no need to produce a pistol permit. I bought .44Mag ammunition for a rifle when I was in high school, way before I could ever get a pistol for it. Not trying to be argumentative, because I don't buy ammo other than rimfire and don't actually know the 'rules' any more, but I also can't imagine that there are many calibers or gauges that somebody doesn't make a pistol barrel for.

The only poisonous (or dangerous) snake you might find naturally in NYS would be a Timber Rattler along the PA border, and even that's pretty rare. It's probably a Rat Snake or a Black Snake. Skunks, feral cats, and a few other critters will definitely kill them with a bite on the neck like that if the snake is big enough to threaten their territory.

HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS
philoshop replied to ryan's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I went head-to-head and side-by-side with a bump-fire guy a few years ago. The bet involved 15 seconds of sustained fire with half the score involving amount of ammo fired, and half involving scores on target. It took us six tries before he could even get through the 15 second drill without a malfunction, and he put 3 of his 100 shots on target. I only shot about 40 rounds with my finger, but 75% of them were on target. Focus on the steak, not the beans. -
HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS

He's a Leftist tool who is paid to be...well, a Leftist tool. It doesn't matter to him, his viewers, or his sponsors and benefactors that he's wrong about nearly everything, as long as he promotes the Leftist agenda. I would LOVE to see Kimmel discuss something with Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Dinesh D'Souza, or just about anyone with an actual functioning brain. Kimmel wouldn't fall to the floor and cry, of course, because he doesn't actually believe in or care about what he says, but it would be entertaining. What's scary is that he has an audience that believes him. -
Vegas Shooting
philoshop replied to Five Seasons's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Taking away the weapon won't change the mindset. This guy apparently owned a couple of airplanes. Why didn't he use those to create havoc? He could have easily killed thousands with a suicide mission using one of his airplanes. He used guns for a reason, and we don't know that reason. It's likely we will never hear about the reason even if it becomes known to the authorities. His brother has said that this guy had no particular religious or political beliefs. Really? I've never met a 64 year old man of means who didn't hold ANY religious or political beliefs. There was something in his head that caused him to use guns. -
Vegas Shooting
philoshop replied to Five Seasons's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I did it to a couple of different guns many, many years ago just to prove to myself that it wasn't difficult at all. After shooting the heck out of a toilet and a bathtub in a junkyard I immediately converted them back. No sense in destroying perfectly decent guns. -
Very sad. The dude made some pretty amazing music and memories for a lot of us older folks. So long, my friend.

Vegas Shooting

Well, speaking as a leftist media reporter, it's painfully obvious that this is all Trump's fault. I have no idea how or why, but it just has to be, right? There's no way this could happen in our Utopia. Right? Don't you agree? /sarc/ -
Vegas Shooting

Thoughts and prayers with the victims and their families and friends. And kudos to the first responders, both on duty and off. I'm anxious to hear more about this shooter, and also how he was able to get several weapons and probably several mil spec ammo boxes up to that room. He didn't stockpile that amount of gear in one trip. It likely happened over a period of days, and no one paid attention. -
I hobbled into the woods behind my house to watch the sun come up and the critters come alive. I do it often because there's no 'season' on it. I miss the hunting, but sitting for an hour in the woods is enough. Best of luck on your storm cleanup bugsNbows.
