  1. I like homemade soup, and I'm not a big fan of canned and processed soup but sometimes it's what's for dinner when I don't want to cook. Anyway, Tops has Progresso soup on sale for a buck a can. 10 for $10 bucks if you want to stock up for the winter. Just an FYI.
  2. There are companies who build structures, including homes, to stand up to Cat5 storms. They'll withstand the 180mph winds, but unless they also float I can't see them being much protection against a storm surge up to the eaves. You can hide from wind, but you have to run from flooding. There was a fishing charter boat captain/owner in the keys interviewed on one of the news shows. He had made the decision to stay because he has a family of eight and five dogs. He has a Cat5-rated house and survival supplies. His point was that trying to run was a less attractive alternative than staying because he had nowhere to run to.
  3. Okay. I'll admit to being too old to understand either of your references.
  4. I'd guess it's a redtailed hawk. Cool pic! Although it also looks like a chicken trying to stay out of a deep-fryer, but I'm hungry and my thoughts are wandering.
  5. I can't actually 'like' that TF, but I hope everyone does okay. Do you really want to be guy number 4 in a game of Russian roulette?
  6. The computer models are mostly in agreement now, with a frightening forecast for point of landfall and subsequent track for this storm. People are somehow breathing a sigh of relief because it's been downgraded to a Cat4 storm. Yeah, from a Cat5 157 mph wind storm to a Cat4 155 mph wind storm?
  7. That tree looks like it's been pruned and pampered for much of its life and is now suffering for lack of that attention over the last several years. 'Orchard' trees are like Thoroughbred horses, they don't do well outside of captivity. There are plenty of websites that will show you how to prune that tree back to it's 'captive' nature and make it productive again if it's still viable. It's worth a try. My brother did it with an entire 'orchard' he found on his property amid all the brambles and locust saplings. Most of his fruit trees have since died, but he had 25 years of very tasty fruit and a chance to plant replacements.
  8. Lots of traffic jams already on the north-bound highways, but people are listening and paying attention. This is not a storm to ignore. It's a Cat5 and officially the biggest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic. Most computer models have the storm eventually diminishing in strength and turning to the north, but none of them agree on what that northward track will be. Even a Cat3 that tracks directly up either coast, or straight up the middle of the peninsula is likely to change the landscape of the area forever. If it remains a Cat5 we'll probably be redrawing the map of what used to be known as Florida.
  9. I'm late to the party. Hope your day was terrific!
  10. Fresh from yesterday's hunt, sodfather? They look good!
  11. Some of the best eats I've ever had. Whether it's a big party or just a thrown together casual meal, the folks with Puerto Rican ancestry put on a good feed. Enjoy!
  12. The attached bottle opener makes it Biz! Authentic beans-n-rice as a side?
  13. Seeing 'groups' is pretty cool with bullets, and sometimes with field points. With broadheads it gets expensive pretty quickly. Even with indoor 20 yard competition the goal is to keep all arrows in the bull without hitting the other arrows. Aim small and hit small.
  14. Change out the thermocouple, Rattler. They don't last very long if they're not kept hot once they've been used.
  15. I'd like to see a graph overlaying Al Gore's bank account and personal wealth with this hysteria, with actual documented change in climate. That would be an interesting project. Leo Dicaprio would be another one. Baseless fear-mongering pays handsomely. Bill Whittle nailed it: "Leo Dicaprio and Al Gore don't have private jets and multiple residences so they can promote the concept of Global Warming. They promote that concept so that they can afford to have private jets and multiple residences."
  16. A few on the left, including in the MSM, are slowly coming around to this fact and are beginning to back off their support. The group is populated with anarchists and communists who hate the fact that America even exists. No debate, and no solutions offered, just a bunch of unruly children getting out of Mommy's basement for a day of mayhem and dressing up in costumes. Their mantra is,"Our violence is speech, but your speech is violence." Orwell's "1984" in real life.
  17. It will never stop, Papist. It might slow down a bit once the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the flag are destroyed and removed from public view, but there will always be something else on the horizon. I've talked to many of these people in small groups. They don't just hate all of the symbolism. They truly hate this country. Everything they've been taught to think it is, everything they've been taught to think it stands for, and everyone who supports it. And the Main Stream Media are their cheerleaders.
  18. IOW, just give these radical Leftist anarchists what they want? Nice to know where you stand.
  19. I don't consider myself an artist, though many of my customers over the years have called me that. The hundreds of pieces; furniture, boats, houses, and musical instruments I've built over the years are my legacy, such as it is. When I watched that mob in Durham, NC pull that statue down I cringed as it was destroyed. Whatever symbolism and re-presentation was assigned to that statue some guy, an artist, worked damned hard to create that piece and none of those militant a**holes give a crap about that. That's my opinion when it comes to destroying or removing statuary from public view for political purposes. That sort of mindlessness won't end well.
  20. I don't think it will have a weather impact on us, Doc, but the thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Hopefully the folks in that area have their heads screwed on right and know when to say when. You can't stand up to a storm that big.
  21. I have three cousins in southeast Texas. The one who lives in a Houston suburb told me just recently that the city is basically paralyzed after a 4" rainfall because they don't have the infrastructure to deal with the water. They're now looking at potentially 2 feet of rainfall.
  22. Prager is a very sharp guy who pays attention. The Left hates it when people pay attention to anything other than what they have to say.
  23. Looks like it's going to be a nasty one. 6 to 10 feet of storm surge on the coast and 3+ feet of rain over the next several days as the storm lingers. 3 feet of snow sucks, but I can't imagine 3 feet of rain. My cousin is a hunting dog trainer southeast of Houston, and he's been scrambling for the last two days to get 15 animals to safe locations and to secure his property. He had planned on staying to protect his property from looters and whatnot, but he's decided to vamoose. I wish him the best.
  24. The Kubota in my avatar is a B7500. It's served me well for 7 years of mowing, plowing, and hauling firewood, and served my Dad well for about 10 years before that, and he bought it used. It's a tough little tractor that will likely outlive me. The thing about tractors in a forested area is that there will always be times when you wish you had a bigger one for additional power, but there will be just as many times when you wish you had a slightly smaller one for maneuverability. It's always a trade-off. The lower end of a semi-professional grade machine is always going to be better than a top-of-the-line homeowner grade. The price difference is definitely worth it.
