I prefer the horizontal as well. I have an impact archery single pin and I love it. You can rotate it from vertical to horizontal. Unfortunately they went out of business, and I’d like to buy another one. My buddy just bought an alpine that is almost identical to the impact archery sight, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I’m going to call the shop where he purchased it in hopes of getting one.

Take a pic of the branch structure. That will usually be a dead giveaway if the leaves aren’t present.

I’ve been using Seresto for years with great results. Each collar is good for 8 months. I rarely even find dead ones on him. Usually they get hot foot and jump off immediately. I buy them from Chewy and set it for auto ship so that I don’t have to remember when to replace them.

I’ve gotten pics the last 2 nights of 2 different bucks still holding. I’d say the majority has dropped though here.

NYT: Deer Overpopulation Meets Its Match: Women Who Hunt
NonTypical replied to left field's topic in Deer Hunting
The ladies are having a get together with other women hunters who are interested in April. https://facebook.com/events/s/long-island-huntress-club-potl/578870002962040/?ti=icl -
Took a quick walk today. Changed out some batteries and walked some thickets on the edge of the marsh. No sheds for me today, but I did find this Diamondback Terrapin shell. They are endangered in Rhode Island and threatened in Massachusetts. They are also a species of concern in several other coastal states, but I guess they are doing pretty good in New York. I have seen them on 2 other occasions in the past laying eggs in my backyard.

I’ll be very curious as to what happens to the coyote that is on Fire Island at Robert Moses State Park. He’s going to be eating well with all the feral cat colonies over there. It’s going to be a while before he makes a dent in the large non hunt able deer population that exists there. I don’t think that the animal activists are going to be too happy about it overall. I’d be very surprised if DEC gets involved.
-
Either way, I believe they had help getting here. And I also believe with the amount of small game, rodents, roadkill, and feral/stray cats, live deer are probably only a very small part of their diet If it was animal activists, then they truly are as stupid as they look. I wonder why when DEC acknowledged them in a letter written to the farmer who submitted pics a few years back, they said not to shoot them? They have no problem bringing in the USDA snipers to shoot the deer, but not the coyotes. They want them here.

Fake news. All the bigs ones have been killed.
-
And that is the reason that nobody including the DEC will ever admit to how they ended up on the eastern end of Long Island first. Usually when you have an expanding population, they will gradually extend their range from where it originated. In this case they ended up about 100 miles east of Manhattan and had to travel through the most populated parts of Long Island where there is probably more food than you would ever think. Just the feral cat colonies alone would be enough to feed the yotes for quite some time. I still think they were placed there.

I’ve never used one, but there are plenty of videos on YouTube. The footage looks pretty good.

DEC brought Turkeys back to Long Island almost 30 years ago. Who’s to say they wouldn’t bring back coyotes?

Since I’m at work and can’t listen to it right now, can you tell us his explanation on how they got here?
-
I haven’t listened to the audiobook that you posted, but my guess is that they were put there by the DEC. They’ll never admit it though. They first showed up in Bridgehampton quite a few years ago. DEC said that they traveled along the tracks and power lines. There are plenty of deer and small game in Nassau and western Suffolk. Why would they go all the way to Bridgehampton first? The nightlife? Lol. i don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve heard rumors of them now on the North Fork, Central Suffolk, and even Fire Island. What better way to try and control the deer population. It’s sure a lot cheaper alternative to paying the USDA to come in and reduce the herd.

Negative. There have been numerous sightings over the last few years. Every year there have been more and more reports of them in new areas.

I agree with you 100% rachunter. The population on Long Island is out of control. Most people don’t realize the consequences of having a deer herd out out of balance. Too many hunters here hang it up around Thanksgiving. There is a reason that we have a 4 month season. -

Try calling the wildlife rescue in Quoge. They might know something as they are involved with rehabilitations. Where was it shot? -

And just like a box of Cracker Jax, it comes with a prize inside. 2 days left and I’ll give it another go Friday afternoon. -
