Exactly! This idea of using isolated incidences like these to wage a full scale war on predators does not speak well for so called sportsmen. For those that tout themselves as sportsmen who care about wildlife conservation this kind of thinking only reinforces my opinion that you are not!

From the antlers or meat thread , do you like venison
nyantler replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
Love venison, but I have had it cooked so poorly that even I couldn't eat it... and that's saying something! If cooked properly it is easily my favorite red meat. Funny though, I don't really care for ground venison... it's not really about the taste so much as it is the texture. I donate all my ground venison. -
I am so that last minute guy and always forget something... have even forgotten shells for the shotgun. That makes for a less than successful day of hunting.

I don't think bucks have done a worse job of surviving as much as for years they were the only sex that was hunted to a great extent... it is only in recent years that the idea of killing does on a large scale became popular and allowed by NYS.
-
The fact that the buck leaves so much sign and advertises himself more... should make one wonder how he can be so hard to find. That alone I believe tells which is the more challenging of the two. If you have ever tracked deer you know that bucks, especially big bucks, travel differently and more evasively than does... staying in cover wherever possible. If not for the breeding season most hunters might never see a buck. Especially those that sit in a stand year in and year out.

I have always been fond of antler meat. So yeah, antler meat... final answer.
-
I bet it is closer to 95 or 100% that hunt for meat and 100% for those that wouldn't be against shooting a big antlered buck. It just depends on how you ask the question.

Using the "Nocturnal" excuse for not seeing or killing deer has always seemed ridiculous to me. If you can't find your car keys, you go looking for them. You don't sit on the couch and wait for them to show up. Also, the biggest reason that deer go into hiding mode is human scent or sighting humans in their habitat... they do not process the noise from gunshots the way you say. In fact, the sound of gun shots in the distance has little or no impact on a deer.

I think it speaks to the style and hunting ability of today's hunter and the lack of hunter numbers. I think that hunter numbers can also be deceiving... when of those hunters most get out very few times during the season.

I try not to think of not being able to hunt t

find out what the taxes are first...LOL

That sounds a little high to me, but I guess whatever you are comfortable paying is a fair price.

I have the slowest internet speed that Spectrum allows... 15mbps... it actually tests much higher... in the 20's for download and about 5-6 mbps for upload. You only need 5 mbps download speed to stream. I haven't had an issue since I went cable free and stream full time... even with my wife and I using the internet at the same time. The only issues I have had are when we have a house load of people and everyones phone connected to the wifi at once... which seldom happens.
-
I have paid $6 per acre for years... $3600 for 600 acres. Many farmers will lease their land for the taxes, which is a good start when approaching a landowner to lease his land.

I like coyote hunting as well... but not because I think they "deserve a dirt nap" for doing what comes natural to them "
-
Wild animals do NOT have a cognitive thought process... it does not understand anything it reacts to stimuli based on instinct... and knows nothing about recoloring things
-
After game to survive and after game as a sport are two different things... we have the ability of choice the coyote is only working on instinct and what it does naturally... just like all the other animals in the wild
-
Yeah.. I think we should start giving dirt naps to eagles and hawks too for the same reason. Who do they think they are taking game to feed themselves to survive???
-
I think the kill somehow gives us ownership of the hunt and the animal at the end... completing the task ourselves instead of leaving it unfinished for someone else to complete. Maybe even for some a sense of winning against a very formidable adversary. Truthfully, I seldom think much about the actual kill... it seems to be just part of what needs to be done if one is going to be a hunter.

I am a contractor and use my battery operated tools every day... I have owned every brand and have found Ryobi to be the most reliable and inexpensive compared to other brands and has always served me well.

I am okay with 16 for a minimum unsupervised age, but only if you have had at least two years of supervised hunting under your belt. I don't like the idea of just putting a gun in the hands of a kid and letting them have at it on their own without a few years mentoring from a responsible adult. Yet, there is always the question of "Is the mentor a responsible adult?" The earlier we start kids out hunting the more years of supervised experience they will get before being able to hunt on their own... starting age should be at the discretion of the parent... I believe minimum unsupervised hunting age should be a standard however.

Johns Hopkins researchers have found that medical errors rank behind heart disease and cancer as the third leading cause of death ... a factor to consider when your Dr. says you should get a flu shot. Just sayin' do your own research before just jumping into what your doctor tell you to do.
-
At 58 years old I have had the flu twice when I was young, so I have done okay without any vaccine... nearly ever person I know that has had the flu shot has gotten sick shortly after receiving the shot... some who have never had the flu in their life... coincidence??... Maybe, but I'll take my chances without the shot. If you get a chance do some research on what is actually in the vaccine and how it a crap shoot at best in it's effectiveness... it should be all you need to make an educated decision about introducing any drug into your system.

So true... our journey on Earth was a gift given to us by the Lord. Understanding and embracing how great a gift that is and how much on Earth there is for us to enjoy is the key...

There is no window where I found it... there was a small wound on it's belly, but it looked superficial at best. I could see in the snow where the hawk had landed, hopped about four feet to the sidewalk and died. Temps were sub-zero that evening and morning so it was frozen when I found it.
