LongJohns/under clothes
CuseHunter replied to Dom's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I either use the honeycomb winter gear I got in the army, or my under armor winter gear from my athletic career in high school. Both work well for me. I prefer to stay nice and toasty in the stand and I don't tend to sweat unless I'm running a marathon so I stack on the layers. Also a side note id add is for nice socks, I bought a pair of smart wool socks. Let me tell you after getting over the sticker price shock, I will never buy a different sock. They have 0 itch, super soft, and beyond the warmest socks I've ever put my feet into. -
Disagree, I don't like being told what to do.

I want to see those deer I have on camera and take a few to the freezer. Never have I scouted like I did this year, lots of time in and just want it to be worth my effort.

TC venture .308, Nikon buck master 4.5-14x scope, hornady custom ammo. Deadly as far as I can see em'

Appreciate the help, I definitely will

I might just call off the last minute hunt. I was invisioning going there and hunting it like him Shockey in the Yukon but I know it will be thick woods, impossible to walk through quietly. I might have to hold off till next year and check out jersey

Thanks for the help! I have never been before and will be doing a spot and stalk ground hunt this time around. I'll bring a climber up there but don't want to sit unless I find an area they are in. I like being on the ground actually hunting for bear

I like the peace and quiet. With a woman, that will be killed.

So I want to hunt for bear. Planning last minute with a buddy to go into the ADK area. Can anyone point me in a general area to hunt em? I heard cranberry lake is full of bear. I want to either tent or rent a cabin up there if possible.

Too bad this had to happen. That's the risk you face though when playing such a dangerous sport.

I refuse to go back to that forsaken state ever again. Fort lost in the woods (fort leonardwood) was the hottest, most tick infested hell hole I've been in. Only nice thing I enjoyed was going to the gun stores off base and talking to the most conservative people I've ever met. Being from NY, it was nice for once not being around Hillary and Obama lovers

I stopped at 6 houses this year, 4 were not home or didn't answer. One did and he was a hunter so I understood his "no", still had a nice conversation though. The other one I just said hi, and talked about stuff and asked for permission to hunt. They seemed like they could care less, even told me where to park. Can't wait to check it out as its right next door to my college campus

I've had great luck with my Remington 870 but if you are looking into a semi auto. Give the Weatherby semi auto a serious look. They make fantastic firearms at a great price.

I found a stand today on a small piece of state land I was scouting. Was following decent deer sign then get to a spot where I say "hey this would be a good stand spot" and there I see one. Checked it out and noticed new chain around it but the lock was cut. Still left hanging though. I left it be and may have to give it a visit to bow hunt out of though.

So sad to hear of this happening. I just bought a new gorilla G30 harness for $90 on eBay and couldn't be happier with the quality. Best $90 I've spent on any hunting gear.

I strongly suggest you to read and print the article Cornell published about the laws in place to protect the landowners. I found it online by a simple google search and they do an amazing job at laying out the sections and even have mock situations which the laws would apply to.

I live in camillus, and never thought of going to long branch park to shoot. I just have a target in the back yard. Looks like one of these days this week ill have to make my way over there and play around with ranges.

I just got the spot Hogg wise guy release, and it is the really good quality, super light trigger, and the best customer support you can get. A little pricey but worth it in my opinion.

I'm no food safety expert, but let me tell you what my hunting group of buddies have done for years. Every deer we kill you keep the steaks, and the rest is cut up and put in a garbage bag and try to get the air out as best as you can. We then put it in the freezer. At the end of the season, after having all the deer down and processed, you'll have say 3 bags per guy in the freezer. We weight them all out, report the weigh-ins and buy pork fat and fatty beef in bulk from a butcher. Take the venison out and defrost. Everyone meets up and we all put our meat together and grind it up with the other fatty cuts of pork or beef depending whether we are making sausage, breakfast sausage, meatballs, or hamburgs. That's was we do and vacuum seal in portions each type and freeze them. I've never gotten sick from doing it, and will keep on doing it this way for probably the rest of my life.

Even though waking up at 5am sucks, I love the silence of the morning and knowing as sun breaks, a buck is near. I have at least 10x's better luck in the AM. I think it's because the deer where I hunt start going more nocturnal as the season hits and are still lingering around in the early morning.

This may sound far off but an old timer told me to cut up an onion and garlic and use it as a cover scent. I told him it sounded rediculous, but he said onions are a common thing to find in the woods and the deer love them. What do you all think?

My Army unit is headquartered there on east molloy rd, and I see massive deer every day I drive through the marines land. Too bad it is high fenced and has razor wire at the top. Plus gate entrances are locked. I've talked to people about hunting it and no one has a problem with it but haven't talked to the right person yet with access to the gate and authority.

I have spotted many cougars. Just this weekend I found one at the bar. She was even nice enough to come over to my house ????????

Free Treestand Safety Harnesses
CuseHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
I have a free harness I got with a stand I got last year. Pm me, I'd be happy to give it to anyone who needs one. -
It also might be beneficial to you to find a mentor to take you under their wing. I come from a non-hunting family where I had to buy everything I use to hunt with and am grateful for the guys who I met that hunt as they showed me everything there is to hunt and were happy to do so.
