Of the 4 top runners in the Republican Party for NYS Governor, I'm starting to like Zeldin. All of them are on the same wave to lower the taxes here, to get back to prosecuting criminals instead of a handshake and a check, and they all feel our gun control laws are way too strict. But Zeldin is aiming for a full repeal of the SAFE ACT. If possible to really lower taxes here, put criminals where they belong, get funding for all first responders, allow police to do their job, get better school funding, they all sort of seem on an even playing field as to what they say they will do. I also look at who's going to stick up the most for our 2A rights, and right now that seems to be Zeldin. While the Left is in trouble right now with all the dumb ass shit they are pulling, it's still going to be difficult for the Right to unseat them. There are too many major cities in NY that are far more liberal in population and outnumber the conservatives. NYC and those boroughs alone have more people than the ADK areas. Once you add in the Albany, Rochester, and Buffalo areas with a very high liberal standing, it's a loosing battle, that's just how it is.

Suddenly we have a bunch of bipartisan bills coming at us concerning gun control, taxes, and more fun stuff to make the US and NY a better place to live (sigh- the part in italics is a wise crack for those who are sitting in a thorn bush). Neither side is thinking straight at the moment.

For the record, I'm referring to actual ML here, not the transformer type that can be turned into something else. I consider those the crossbow of the ML world.

No black powder guns need to go through an FFL, a pistol only needs to be added to a permit once the components to make it fire are actually in place to make the pistol go bang. If I read the laws right. ML rifles and components do not have to be transferred via FFL, you can buy a complete kit with the rifle, powder, primers, and bullets from a shop and the only paperwork is the sales reciept. All non-muzzle loaders need to go through an FFL. I remember reading somewhere the dealer isn't supposed to charge more than $10 for the transfer, but some places charge $25-50.

I picked up a second lower and ordered an upper, other than that I doubt't I'll buy any more modern sporting rifle lowers. I refuse to give NY any money to buy a license to own or buy a rifle.

I've seen a few out hiking. I'm seeing more in the areas hunting isn't allowed, then where it is. Seen some pictures of 4 nests with eggs ranging from 6-10 last Saturday sighting in a rifle, and that area hasn't had a good turkey population in about 10 years, but it looks like they are coming back.

They are a bit out of control in a few places here. Last week I went over to a local hiking area, and they were all over the place. When I was leaving, two dropped onto the windshield. Those little bastids have some strength in them tiny legs, once I got back onto the main road it took about 3 miles at 55 before they finally blew off.
