  1. Saved it! Going too see how far we can make a Snickers Bar thread go.
  2. I'm always cranky, LOL. But, in that particular post, I wasn't being cranky. TF and I were texting, and his post made me think that these days I don't always go into details about my hunts. So I explained in more detail how the morning went. The part about the song birds, that was just ball busting.
  3. This is awesome! I hope the turnout is great!
  4. See, you have to pick your candy by season. Over using fireballs is like over calling. Less is more. Fireballs during deer season, Hot Tamales for turkey. Or Mike & Ikes for fall turkey hunting.
  5. Try a Twix, you have two sides, if one side doesn't work the other one will.
  6. I had too........... The_Real_TCIII told me to have a Snickers, so I bought one for a snack for tomorrows hunt. Gotta say, not sure how the hell a $2 candy bar will keep the grouchy out. LOL

  8. Only 3? I have heard and read about plenty more hunters being killed by a shotgun while turkey hunting. Any other reason to object Bill? Not arguing, just asking. Guns don't kill other hunters ( guns rarely go off on their own ), stupidity and a lack of knowledge usually play a huge part in hunter related fatalities or injuries. I agree with the pro's and cons brought up so far. Seen videos of a basic .22LR going through some hefty plywood ( might be equal too going through the feathers/wings of a turkey ? ). So a mag, or yeah, a .17 HMR would be a better choice. Heck, I can get ammo for my .25-06 that wouldn't be over kill on a turkey. Just seems that rifle would a bit big IMO, and I wouldn't use it. Some fine rifle calibers out there that would be great for turkey in the right hands.
  9. Trying hard to not go into long winded replies on here these days. Let me explain better. I heard them starting to talk just before the light started to come up. I used my hat as a fly down at first light, and did some light scratching on the leaves. Waited a bit, then did some soft purrs and clucks about every half hour, for about an hour and a half. Nothing. I moved, did a couple soft purrs and got a reply. Set up and waited. A few clucks and yelps. Silence. As for songbirds, how the hell would I know, I heard them, but they weren't my objective. I wasn't bird watching, I was turkey hunting. EDIT: I guess I was bird watching because I was turkey hunting.
  10. My thought on asking was other states allow rifles. Not sure I would head out turkey hunting with a 7mm Mag. I was also thinking about the airgun phenomenon some are swept up in. If an airgun can kill deer....... It is about shot placement, I agree 100 %. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

  12. Best wishes with the shoulder surgery and a speedy recovery. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

  14. Heard some gobbling about 5am just as the sky was getting light. Called off an on for an hour and a half, notta. Got up moved a hundred yards or so, called heard a couple replies, then nothing. Was a beautiful morning. Going home and mow the lawn and take a nap. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  15. Good point. Lower neck area or the area you would aim at using a bow for turkey hunting. Not enough firepower? Again I go to the elite few who hunt turkey with a bow. If you can kill a turkey with a bow, surely you can get it done with at minimum a .22lr. A .22lr has more "fire power" then any bow. Was just a question.
  16. I'm ready. Only scouted a few times, but actually had birds talking back to me this year, so I'm stoked! Downside, I won't be able to get out until Wednesday. Good luck to everyone heading out in the AM! Looking forward to seeing some nice toms taken in the live from the turkey woods thread.
  17. I know it's not legal in NY. But a few states do allow rifle for turkey hunting. Would you use a .22LR or Mag for turkey hunting?
  18. Posted a few pics before of the gun, so didn't take one for this thread. TriStar Raptor 12. The only thing different is ammo. Going to give Winchester Super X 2-3/4" High Velocity Steel Shot a try. Pattern was pretty nice out to 35 yards.
  19. Remakes.. Vomit... 28 Days Later was not a true zombie movie. Sorry. Guess you all best buy a "brush gun" that will swing fast. I suggest a .308 in an AR platform ( and say FU Andy ). Get a tac vest and plenty of mags and ammo. Or.............. If you want to be true bad asses like Michonne, you will carry a katana folded a few hundred times. If you don't have the guts to use a sword, maybe you could throw baby food at the walkers.
  20. Anyone on here go to the brew fest at Hunter Mtn.? I had forgotten about it. Just talked to my bro and he said they had well over 100 craft brews to sample.
  21. The above is sort of pointless as well, but you felt the need to post your opinion. Funny how opinions work around here. I have no kids, and don't know any youths who want get into hunting. If I did, I sure as hell would get them out before all the wacko's start shooting at sounds instead of an actual visual target on public land. You are free to have your opinion, but IMO, bagging on the Youth Turkey Season Days is BS. Let the young hunters get out there and learn, and start developing their own thoughts. If that doesn't melt right in your cup of tea, perhaps a cup of warm vinegar would wash down better!
  22. Very sorry for your loss and sincere condolences to you and your family and friends. We never really get over loosing a loved one, especially those of us who love the outdoors and spent time building bonds through hunting or fishing. Like Buckmaster7600 said, it may not get any easier, but you just learn to deal with the loss over time in your own way. Remembering campfire stories, "the one that got away" fishing stories, and just remembering all the good times. I always say, no one is really gone as long as they are still in our hearts, and thoughts.
  23. Damn! I hope you get well fast and without too much discomfort.
  24. I think at one point or another every hunter has heard or not heard something that just didn't set well with them. Something that just seemed of of place. The only bear I have ever seen while hunting didn't make any unusual sounds or noises. While sitting in the NZ during the gun season about 13 years ago, heard some shuffling of leaves and watched a doe walk past me at about 40 yards, a few minutes later I heard the shuffling again. Watched a small black bear walk right past following the doe. I doubt the bear was hunting that doe, but it was still peculiar. Never made my hair stand up. Other times that really make the hair stand up are when all of a sudden everything stops. The wind dies out, the birds stop singing, and the floor critters shop moving. Everything just goes silent. Walking into your spot in the dark and flushing any critter can put a stain in your britches. The more time you spend hunting one area the better you get to know most of the sounds in that area. But, that doesn't mean critters you haven't seen or heard before won't come strolling in. Especially if you plant food plots. You just never know what critter will take a liking to your clover.
  25. You think this site is any different with self aggrandizing? LOL! So, you are going to boycott Fox News, because a proven perv was given his walking shoes? I guess the real world complicities that are going on don't bother you. Carry on, fight the good fight. Maybe you can get on the Wendy Williams show. While you are doing that, the rest of us will be thinking about NK and missile issues, the Syria/Russia issues, and now dealing with ISIS wanting to join forces with Al Qaeda.
