Two Hand Made Knives 4 Sale
DirtTime replied to DirtTime's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Second knife is sold VIA a guy my wife works with. Can a Mod. please lock this up seeing these are both sold. -
I've seen them strutting in fields into July around here. Back in 2019 my wife and I were camping in a state park the second week of June and at 5AM one morning a tom woke us up. It was gobbling and walked right down the concrete walkway around the bathrooms and into the woods. I threw my shoes on and tried chasing it down to get it on video, all I actually got was him gobbling but no actual footage of the bird. We have also seen them strutting really early this past Winter. We were coming back from shopping and there were two out in a field in full fan at the end of March.

Two Hand Made Knives 4 Sale
DirtTime replied to DirtTime's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Top knife is gone. Sold to a buddy after sending him the pics. -
Two threads about the same exact topic. One that won't effect anyone really because as I said in the other thread, no one who owns private land is going to take down the older style non-cell cams. Which as said, who cares. I would be curious, if NY did enact this into law what the fines would be? A slap on the paddy and told not to eat at McDonald's for a week? That's the equivalent of 1/2 of a priest ordered Hail Mary.

No, I didn't forge the blades, they are built on knife blanks. 1075 HCS, so because of the carbon these have to be maintained, if you don't they will rust. The red oak scales are hand cut, hardened/stabilized and sanded by me. These are the last two from the last batch I built, and figured I'd put them up here for a few days before adding them to my collection. The top knife is based on the Kephart style with hardened red oak scales, brown and white G10 liners, and brass pins. A leather BPS sheath is included that can be carried as a dangler carry or regular belt carry. Price is $125 firm. GONE The bottom knife is based on a Woodlore style with hardened red oak scales, black G10 liners and black high density carbon pins. This one includes a leather Hide and Drink Sheath. Price is $135 firm. PM for any questions or if you would like to buy either of these. Preferred payment is PayPal using Goods and Services, not friends and family. I use G&S for some insurance and to keep a record for tax purposes. Anyone near my location and can come here to pick them up I'll drop $10 off the price as I will save on shipping ( PM me for details ). Thank you for taking a look.

If you want high quality, I'd go to a photography shop. They will have the right gear ( software ) to make the prints look clear no matter what size you want. It will cost more, but it's the best route if the pictures are of sentimental value. My wife used to use Snapfish and had mixed results. If we didn't have anything printed over 8x10 they looked fine, but we do poster type montages of trips we go on and it was always hit or miss. So she stopped using them and now uses Walmart and we haven't had any problems for the past year or so ( knock on wood ).

I wouldn't be shocked if NY did that. I would fathom a guess it would be a ban for public land only for the cams, which I can sort of understand. Agree not so much, but understand. If NY does follow and make a ban, I wonder how many boating accidents will involve boxes of trail cams? Also, lets be real here- many people that own their own land will pay any attention to this ban anyway. They may drop the cell cams because those can be traced and tracked, but the basic cams will still be on trees.

I suppose not. I mean, they did hack a gas line. I bet a couple million doomsday preppers made a mess in the front of their pants when that news broke. I personally made some predictions to my wife and a couple other people when the pandemic hit. One was this forum would turn into a raging circus of politics, worse then ever. I was way off with that one.

Cool! I guess I'll keep the tank after all. The first thing they will do is shut down the internet, then what will the foil hat typers do with no one to share these stupid theories with?

Cannibal Whitetail Deer Photographed Eating Dead Fawn
DirtTime replied to phantom's topic in General Chit Chat
That looks like a root of some kind to me. If it is a critter, it sure looks pretty mummified. -
It's funny, one of the top political posters and among those always whining about rights being taken away is upset on how others spend their money? Sure, lets make it illegal for people who can afford inflated prices to buy a house, because that makes sense. Next we can barge into the automotive sales market and make it illegal to buy a car with any bells and whistles because people seem to like those frilly things on vehicles. Buyer: "I'd like the heater included with my truck." Dealer: "I'm sorry, we can't do that because some ass hat passed a law about options on new trucks being illegal." Doesn't anyone think anymore?

I started making them last December. I've actually sold about a dozen. Kephart, Woodlaw, and Bushlore styles from Condor in 1075 HCS. Prices on materials have went up like everything else, so micarta and G10 have almost doubled. I stabilize my own red oak and use either brass, stainless steel, or G10 pins. If I use liners it's always G10. Here's a few I've made, the bottom is my EDC.
-
I rarely carry a folder anymore. When I do it's a Rat 1. I prefer a fixed blade and my multi tool for EDC, and have for over a year and a half now. It was mainly one of my Gerber Prodigy's for about a year. Now, it's a knife I built myself from a blank.

The call I bought is made of poplar, with a maple top. Poplar is very soft and doesn't do well in not so great weather. It expands and shrinks a lot if it's not stabilized in some way. I think I'll try some very light colored stain on the very top, sides, and bottom. I wasn't planning on doing the inside or the bottom of the lid. I thought about just using clear wood hardener, but I would say the odds of that altering the sound would be pretty high because that stuff actually changes the wood to a certain degree.
-
Thanks for the reply. Have you done this Bill? I'm just curious as to how you think it would alter the tone enough to present a problem. Which is why I asked if anyone had actually stained the outside of a box call, to get an answer if it would alter the sound or not.
-
Gee, thank you for the clarification, I would have never figured that out on my own. I guess 'cause it's in the general area its OK to mask racism and push political agendas. After all, isn't EVERYTHING inherently classified as 'general'? Again, thank you. Without people like you posting definitions the world might stop turning. You get one blue star.

I picked up a Quaker Boy box call recently, it's been a long time and I don't remember box calls being so loud. I guess I got used to the more subtle tones from pot calls. I was wondering if anyone has ever put a coat of stain on a box call? It's unfinished so I would like to add something to the exterior as a way to protect the call from splitting or cracking in changing weather conditions.

If you looked there are a bunch already, but you have to step away from the politics to find them.
-
It's still not in the right area, because people aren't smart enough to post political crap where it belongs. It also doesn't matter where it's posted, when you log in and look at new or recent activity this is the crap that shows up first. Get a friggin clue!
-
I don't think you'll see that from most of the political crew. Spring turkey season is just around the corner and nary a word from most of them. They will continue to turn this forum into a bubbling pool of toxic slime. You can't log in here anymore and see a hunting thread at the top of the list, you have to look for them through the bile, and it was that way during most of last years deer season from most of them.

If you're going to make a grand re-enterence you need to be wearing the pink bunny suit. Nothing less is acceptable from the man the myth the legend. Welcome back.

A 20GA is just fine for turkeys. I like #4 or #5 shot if using a 3" magnum shells, #4 if using basic 2 3/4" shells. To roost birds I prefer a locator call, either a crow call or an owl hooter. I usually just try and locate the birds with either of those and then listen while scouting early in the morning. Over all roosting doesn't do me much good, on public land you can locate the roost the night before, get there the next morning only to find someone else is in that area.
