This was pretty much the way I thought about it after a few minutes. As I said it was just light and shadow playing tricks. It was pretty cool in a way at the same time, I don't know if a trail camera would pick up that type of thing and make it seem like it did through my eyes. It's also things like this that keep me going into the woods both to hunt or just spend time out in nature. You never know what you'll see even if the surroundings make you have to think for a minute. Or, maybe it was aliens.

They want us to start wearing masks again???
DirtTime replied to Gobbler Chaser's topic in General Chit Chat
So anyone who chooses to wear a mask is a left wing democrat, and can go "f" them selves? Hmmm... Well, I'm not a left wing nut job, nor am I some over the top right wing basket case that feels everyone has to do things their way or they are stupid or what ever. I think I'll go sit in my yard with a mask on just to piss some people off. Maybe I'll even take a picture. -
Or those with issues understanding things could just not post seeing they don't seem to have a grasp on this particular concept. Or better yet, people could read the banner for the site and let it sink in a little. The logo doesn't look like this:

That was a pretty cool read, thank you for sharing. Not a lot of appreciation for a good axe in this day and age, it requires work and fair amount of skill to fell a tree with an axe. Long ago the only wood processing tools I had while camping were an axe, a hatchet and a wedge. Chopping long downed trees into workable sections was how we got much of our fire wood. These days I do lean more towards my Fiskers Bow Saw to cut longer logs, even took a buck saw I made on one camping trip this year. The saw doesn't kill my back as much as the axe does, I can use more of my shoulders and arms VS the hip rotation required for the axe.

I knew/know it was just the weather, it was just one of those times where you stare and blink simply because of the situation. My eyes were saying "Whaaa?", and my brain was saying "Ya gotta love fog and low light.". I will say, I have seen a lot of really wonky things in the woods this year so far though. I think the oddest was watching a turkey chase a red squirrel- that was something I had never seen before.

Happy Birthdays! dbHunterNY and Salmon_Run
DirtTime replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Chit Chat
Happy Birthday guys. -
I was out this morning doing a bit of scouting. While standing on the edge of a clearing I watched a buck walk past just inside the wood line on the opposite side. It was a bit foggy, but I swore that deer had no velvet left on his antlers. I know it was just the lighting and the fog, yet it felt like it was late September with the temps being cooler then normal for the time of year. I would have loved to get a picture but by the time I blinked away the thought of too early for the antlers to be done he was gone as fast as he showed up. It started that spark finally ( just haven't been feeling it yet, and was considering not even starting to hunt until late October when I'll be up north ) that a new deer season is almost here.

Yet here we have a 5 page topic about politics, in the general boards where it doesn't belong, while threads about hunting on a hunting forum barely get past a page or two. I swear, I don't know whether to laugh at some people or send them a care package of MRE's so they have some food for the end of the world as we know it. But, I would like to thank you for making my point perfectly, all this political talk where there should be more hunting talk is very toxic, very toxic indeed.

Our cabin has been booked for a few months now to hunt the NZ the last week just before the regular season opens up there. Once again it will be me and my bow trying to connect. I think I'll be trying a different area this year on a couple days, the area me a few friends camped at back in May looks worth checking out. Then it will be a few weekend hunts up in the NZ with the wife on some private land for the regular season.

I just want to know if any of this will effect the rut.

Twitter hypocrisy
DirtTime replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Oh I understand the difference. I also see you skirting the topic matter I brought up and trying to turn it into something different. I wasn't being sarcastic, and my image is not in question here, that bridge is long since been burned. I'm not now nor have I even been some sort of ego maniac to worry about such drivel. If anything you are showing you are not true to your soapbox. It's easy to stand up there and preach with your nose to the sky trying to make everyone who doesn't agree with you look small and belittle them, yet when a serious issue is shown as a break in your line of crap talking to have nothing. You want direct, and sarcastic? Here you go. Let me try to explain this to you nice and s l o w . D e m o c r a t i c W a l m a r t = Bad D e m o c r a t i c T w i t t e r = G o o d I have now explained this to you in the most practical manner possible. Have a nice day. Or don't. I won't loose any sleep over it either way. My work is done here. -
Twitter hypocrisy
DirtTime replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
A dictatorship can run two ways. Being a dictator is demanding that things are only to be one way with no grey areas. So we have that from both sides of the parties. I personally don't want to be told when and where I can take a shit by anyone! I get what you're saying, but I just don't agree 100%. Like I said, don't tell me I'm not supposed to shop in a store that runs on Democratic Policy, but making an account on some social media platform controlled by Democrats is OK. That's the very definition of hypocrisy. You don't seem to understand that, and there's nothing I can do to help you see it. Therapy maybe? -
Twitter hypocrisy
DirtTime replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Not as much as it seem to bother some people. Life's to short to worry about what social media allows and doesn't every waking minute. I'd rather be outdoors doing something then carrying on about what I can and cannot say on a site that was started by a bunch of Democrats. I also want to add that the first part of twitter says it all, Twit. It was started by Twits, for other Twits to communicate. So in this case seeing it's a Dem controlled media outlet, I cannot see why any self respecting Rep. would waste time being a Twit. We're not supposed to shop at Dicks or Walmart, but hanging out on Twitter is OK? Some people show their hypocrisy like a flag up a pole. -
It's not always rainy days. When I stopped drinking I found I had more expendable cash then I used to. So I have bought a lot of knives, for no other reason then I wanted to see how they worked. I now have a couple of drawers full and I rarely use about 1/2 of them. Impulse buying can be bad.
-
That looks you had a blast! Those smiles say it all!

Cleaning out the knife drawer, so I have some knives that need a good home. These have both only seen very light duty, a little rope cutting and some food prep. This is a companion set I carried for a while but no longer do. When I'm carrying a larger knife with a companion I swapped out to a BK2 or 9 and a Rat1. SOG SEAL Pup Elite Fine Edge with a Gerber SB 2.5 companion. Both are in new condition, the SOG is currently on sale so I cannot get even close to what the original cost was. $95 for both shipped or save $10 if you can pick them up. PM for any questions.

This is actually a serious question and in no way am I being sarcastic or negative. Do deer being grown like you do for work actually grow antlers the same as wild deer or does the gene manipulation ( for lack of a better term on my part ) cause them to grow differently? I have always wondered about that to be honest.

Twitter hypocrisy
DirtTime replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
What happened to TikTok or Twitter? I don't have or bother with either so what happens on them means about as much to me as people who cry about everything on social media yet still use it. -
Twitter hypocrisy

Who cares! Everyone who's anyone uses TikTok. -
I tested out one of the 4 hour mats and got just a bit shy of 5 hours before the bugs started coming back with a vengeance. It worked pretty well, a lot better then bug spray that's for sure. I'll be camping this coming weekend and I might take it out for a full blown trial run, if I remember to pack it that is.

You forgot about papist, uptownredneck ( who had like 10 other accounts ), and a couple others. @blackbeltbill you should check your math dude, the original post was less then a year ago, not two. If you run out of fingers to count on try using a calculator. Also, you dredged up a year old post to throw a jab at a couple dudes who you are having an issue with. Now if they chime in and have a rebuttal you'll cry like a little girl and run to the Admins playing the victim when you are the one who had to make a comment on a long dead thread to stir the pot. A blind man can see what you did here. Between this and that dumb poem you made up you keep asking for trouble and when you get it, it's someone else's fault. I and others have told you on more then one occasion, you like to be the pot calling the kettle black.
-
So you're going to pull out the all black and start the TLV- Turkey Lives Matter? Or are you finally going to come to the dark side and start listening to heavy metal and wear a black hoodie and walk around brooding? Less issues using mace or bear spray then using a gun to kill someone. In these times unless you prove without a shadow of a doubt it was justifiable you'd be doing time for some form of murder. Good luck proving there was just cause to shoot someone while in the street. Even in your own home you might still be in a world of hurt putting a round in an intruder. Have a look around at the news stories where a thief who broke into a house and got hurt sued the owner and won. Plenty of those cases long before this BLM hogwash started.

It's everywhere it seems lately. They are getting bolder in where they start these riots ( I mean protests ). We avoid cities most times and especially at night. I keep hearing from a couple people I stay in touch with where we lived in Schenectady is really bad the last couple years, I'm glad we got out of there. Mace is a good idea for just about anyone who doesn't have a CCP these days. It used to be a loud whistle would be helpful, but now days I'd bet anyone who heard the sound would just run over and break out a phone to make a video instead of helping. It's a pathetic world we live in these days.

That billy pot should work fine. You can get a small bread pan that can fit inside as well, that or the sheet of SS would be ideal. You just have to remember to cook over hot coals and not flame, and check it often- corn bread burns fast with this method of baking. If you choose not to add the small pan just fold up some heavy duty foil to make the pan and your all set.
