Wife and I had a great night, no deer shot but I had a really wide 6 come in too my right at 10 yards and no shot. He got behind me and I pulled out the true talker and gave it a grunt as I’m looking behind me, out runs a 4 . I’m thinking I’m going to see a sparing match, nope no fighting no nothing. I hit the grunt tube again and I can see the wide six looking down my way. I watched them for a few minutes and they both headed up the hill. My wife was on the other part of the lease across the road about 8- 900 yards up from me . She tells me on the 2 way radio about 1/2hr after I see him that a really big six came in behind her to her right no shot . We’re in lower part of 8w and there’s seeking going on but I’m not seeing any major rut activity happening yet. Glad I’m off next week too.

I’m seeing lots of deer hit on the 4 lane , but our lease in 8w were just now seeing a few rubs pop up and does are not being hounded .

Well I was up in my climber seen 3 doe , they came within 50 yards. Wife had a hen Turkey run under her stand and seen 2 doe in neighbors field . We’ve seen deer every sit on new lease just nothing in bow range .

He’s got the the 30-30 if he can’t get her done with the 357. But I can see it in him that he really wants to take a deer with his revolver . I can’t tell you how many times he’s said I really like this gun .

How about surrounding properties , Anything change on them new owners that hunt , food plots , etc.

( he didn’t want me posting his ) he’s getting them all on the target but he’s not grouping well yet , It’s his first year shooting his pistol and he’s still getting used to the recoil from the hot hunting loads. I’ve told him he’s definitely shooting well enough for deer and he just needs more trigger time to get his groups smaller. I did point out to him that a few of the rifle guys shooting 50 yards had worse groups than him though, that made him feel pretty good , gotta keep his confidence up.

Sons shooting 357 Blackhawk with red dot and I’m shooting my SRH 44 with the Leupold . We shot 50 yards off the rest’s and man my 44 really like’s the 270 grain deep curls I loaded . I’ve got him shooting 158 grain hard cast Keith style bullets that he’s shooting ok , so I loaded some 158 xtp’s for him to try and they may be a bit more accurate, ill load up some more and we’ll hit the range again before the gun opener. It was a nice morning to break out the pistols and the range did get a bit busy . Time to shift back into archery mode for this afternoon though .

Always play the wind, but I’ve had good luck with scent killer and ever calm. I’ve actually had deer down wind with their noses in the air sniffing and looking for the (other new deer) using ever calm . I apply to the bottom and side of my rubber boots .

Mine stays in our shed , it’s my camping /outdoor furniture / hunting shed. When my hunting clothes need to be washed they go in the washer and then right back out to the shed to hang to dry .

Could it be because your wife is with you toting the guns and not bowhunting ? It happens though my drive to hunt this year is down also. I have come to realize that I would rather choose quality over quantity hunting, as I get older I’m finding I get burned out easier so I tend to only hunt when the wind / conditions etc. are right.

That’s awesome congrats , I will say I’m a little surprised your staying in NY though.

My uncle managed a vineyard back in late 90’s , it was some of the best hunting ever . Tons of deer and turkeys every year . Didn’t hurt either the owner wanted them all shot and had lots of nuisance tags
