  1. I’ve ordered sweatshirts and a prairie creek soft shell jacket for bowhunting. Wore the coat this season and that coat is awesome and really happy with the sweatshirts very heavy weight.
  2. Buffalo bore produces top shelf ammo. Pricey, but if you don’t reload all the high quality 44 ammo is.
  3. Just another thought, but a nice lever action in 30-30 has been a proven performer for years. That’s what I bought my son.
  4. I hunt with a Super red hawk in 44 mag with a 9.5 inch barrel and have killed numerous deer at 60+ yards . So yes a rifle chambered in 44 would work for a short range gun .
  5. There is no such caliber that will shoot through brush. Back when it was slug gun only I hunted with my 870 -12 with 385 grain copper solids. Opening morning of southern zone had a doe at 60 yards pulled up shot, she dropped in her tracks. Since she dropped I decided to sit and wait the rest of the morning. 3-4 hrs later I climbed down walked over to her and no hole in the side of her. Started checking her over and that slug basically cut her throat. Couldn’t believe it , I knew I was dead on she was broadside. Turn around to get the sight line from the stand and low and behold a branch the size of a pencil about 10 ft from her was broke . Yep that little branch deflected that 385 grain slug.
  6. Awesome.... full break down on the shot placement please ...
  7. Going off what you described, and using a large cut broad head I would go back in now.
  8. Your Kawasaki Cvt is a bit different from mine , as you have a primary and secondary springs. Yours relies on these 2 springs to apply the pressure to the cvt belt. With any cvt quad if one is going to run larger tires, mud bog , carry/ tow a lot of weight, Switching the spring or springs to a higher pound rating will apply more pressure to the belt so it doesn’t slip in the cvt sheaves . Springs will also change the shift out and increase engine braking of the quad .
  9. I have the tires all mounted up , I used my modded Harbor freight tire changer.
  10. On our lease and I’ve talked to others the trees are loaded with acorns this year. I think the deer could eat acorns till their heart is content right in their beds . Be patient ( I know it’s easy to say ) but the best time to be in the woods is coming .
  11. I’ve been out 6 times and out of those I’ve seen deer twice both 45 + yards out. Second time was a shooter and he wouldn’t come in to my grunt call . It’s all good still have time left to tag one with the bow. This is our second year on this lease and still learning the land. We have 67 acres for 3 of us and I don’t want to over hunt it early season and burn it out , so we really don’t ramp up our hunting till now . We have deer but definitely not over run with them. A bow killed buck is the bees knees , but if we have to use the rifle to get it done then so be it . On the plus side my cameras have a ton of buck photos as of late.
  12. It always impresses me just how tough these animals are . That’s a great buck especially for state land , what state land was it shot on ?
  13. Right, I was saying in a round about way , about as effective ..
  14. Nice shot, now shoot some more ..
  15. Those first two are from my ( security ) camera on the dug road entrance to our lease . The main road is only like 70-80 yards from it. I’ve got a bunch of photos of deer using it. There will be a ladder stand going up for next season in this area.
  16. We’re on the 8W / 8T border and 2 weekends ago I watched a young buck bread a doe. We also had scrapes showing up. This last weekend noticed more scrapes, rubs and heard bucks fighting. But I also grunted at a good 7 pointer and he didn’t react . I have not seen any other chasing though since that young buck. I am getting lots of bucks on cameras though .
  17. Thanks , I really hope my son or wife will get a shot at either one .
