  1. It begins each year with the "First Shot"!!! Give it a go.
  2. Nice buck. Three maybe even four years old. But I'm probably the worst guy to judge deer photo's on this forum. I do much better with the real thing.
  3. Need to pick up a couple new cams for a high risk area, bordering state land on our farm property. Was in Tractor Supply, and saw a Spy Point infa-red cam with batteries and card for about $80. Don't remember the model number. But if you have used a Spy Point cam, let me know what you think! Don't want to spend much more than this, as like I said they will be in a high risk area.
  4. Men in my family seem to drop out around 60 or so. Women live to be in the late 80s, early 90s. My father, both grandfathers and one great grandfather never saw 62, before going to the happy hunting grounds. I'm already 62, so I'm on the plus side already!! And maybe I'll take after the women side of the family?? Being diabetic, and gone through a few different types of cancer surgeries, no guarantees for me. But there are none for any of us! But right now I'm holding my own and doing ok! Got some top notch Doc's that got my back! I'll take that! Looking forward to another deer season!
  5. Thanks for posting this! I have followed the Wensels since the 80s when they came out with the video, Hunting October Whitetails. These guys are the real deal. Still among the very best of the "celebrity hunters" of all time.
  6. Nice shooting Nomad!!! How is that shoulder holding up?
  7. Hmmmmm.......... wasn't pygmy off on some sort of "adventure" last April????????
  8. For sure Larry. He's 6'5 and about 225. In the gym every day and almost ready for football to start. I thing he needs a higher poundage bow....lol Really be cool if he can get that first deer this year! He came close last year.
  9. Grandson and I went over to the sportsmans club to shoot this evening. We had a blast! My first group at 30. Not so great but I did better as I went along. My grandsons first group was much better than mine!He beat me on points again! And I ruined an arrow. Good time!
  10. A hearty congratulations to you and your lovely wife Biz! You will be a great dad!
  11. So sorry to see this accident happen to your beautiful wife. Sending thougjts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Give her a kiss on the cheek for all of us here. One tough lady!
  12. No, you're definitely not a nut job....lol. But maybe some if you will think I am after reading this though? My grandma was full blood native American. And when I was a kid, she and her brothers (my great uncles) taught me some of the "old ways" and told me that all things in the woods have a spirit. All the animals, trees, all living things have a spirit. Also so does the earth, sky, sun, and the woods themselves. Along with the hunter spirits and the "Old Ones"..... They do "watch" us. And watching over EVERYTHING....is the Great Spirit?...God?....but that is another topic for another time perhaps. OK......follow me so far? Most of these spirits are good, but not all, and they see you in the woods, and reward the true of heart, and can become angry with those who are not? So that feeling of being "watched" can come from those who are true of heart! No need to be afraid. Each time I step in the woods, I give thanks to the spirits, those who have hunted with me have seen me do this. I was raised as a Christian, and my grandma was too. But she felt it was very important for me to learn the old ways too. I'm glad that I did. It has brought a certain peace to my life, and to my time in nature. Now.......I'm SURE, some will think ol' grampy is the nut job now!! But hopefully this may give you an insight to that feeling you sometimes have of being watched? And to embrace it as something good. OK......back to hunting alone!
  13. I'm the complete opposite. When I walk in to the dark woods alone, a feeling of peace and tranquillity washes over me. It's when I feel most alive. All my senses are working at peak. I'll kneel down, take a few moments to become one with the woods, and my hunters spirit. Then slowly make my way to where I'm going. Without a light.
  14. I hunt alone often enough. More so with bow than gun. Don't mind it at all.
  15. Perfect! It's the best, and most economical upgrade you can make to the Axis. Besides replacing the glass, which you have nicely done with that Leupy! It won't be as crisp as say a Timney of course. But at only $20, it will be a BIG improvement over the stock trigger. Looking forward to the range report and pictures!
  16. Seems like Cashman handled that sticky situation much better than he did the trade deadline!
  17. Good luck to the team today zag!!!
  18. I'm with the just walk down the middle guys. And don't sneak! Nonchalantly just walk a straight line, preferably into the wind, without stopping, until you reach the woodline. Years ago I knew an old timer who told me, "deer know when your hunting them! So act and walk like you're not hunting, when they can see ya"! He killed some of the biggest bucks in this area during his lifetime. So when he gave advise, I listened.
  19. For the money that is a really good rifle Jay!! When we went to rifle here in 4H a few years ago, I bought that same exact gun, in 7mm/08. It shoots very good groups out to 250 yards and sub moa at 100. Most everything I ran through it shot good too. I settled on Federal Premium Nosler BT in 240 gr. Google Axis trigger spring!! For $20 you can replace the trigger spring, and go from about 7lbs to just a touch over 3lbs trigger pull. It made a huge difference. And you can do it yourself in less than 15 min!!! Also, it is SAFE!!! As far a 7mm/08 performance on deer? I've shot four bucks with it. Total distance traveled by all four....zero yards! It is now my grandsons rifle as I upgraded a couple years ago.
  20. Welcome to another football season! Kinda boring, but NFL preseason starts tonight. Looking forward to catching a couple Panthers games. And some other NFL games over the course of the season. Go Panthers! Also some college games, as they are every bit as good, if not better than watching the pro's with the right matchups. Go Gamecocks! What's your favorite teams? Are you expecting them to go all the way, or just be better than last year?
  21. Been running boats for more than 45 years. Never has anyone on a boat I was in charge of, or any other boat, gotten so much as a scratch. Besides a fish hook removed once. I learned and studied marine laws, and boating safety, like many others. There are some who just went and bought a boat, or watercraft, and didn't bother to learn the laws of the water. Don't have a clue. I've seen it more and more over recent years on various bodies of water. And rarely is it a fisherman causing the problems out there. But sure, I do think it's a good idea to take a course, if you are going to be skimming across the water with your family in the new boat. The course has been "voluntarily available" for decades now!! That said, I think its just the latest big pile of stinking BS, passed down from a goofball governor, who just gets himself off by dictating over other people's lives! I'm just sick of some idiot telling me what I need to do!! I don't need to be saved from myself!!
  22. We were there on Monday. Nice stadium to watch a game. Hope you enjoyed the Yankees slug fest tonight!
  23. This is what I was going to say.
  24. I'd give em another year, he'll really be somthin special next year!!!! Yes, I am joking!!
