    Icy

Wishing your wife a speedy recovery. And a short honey do list for you! Good time to score points for taking extra good care of her.
  2. Bob, I got that load from the Nosler book. 99% volume. Not the hottest load with this powder. And seems to shoot very well from my grandsons Savage, with no issues at all. But!!!.........I am fairly new to reloading, and ALWAYS open to critique and suggestions from you guys with much more experience.
  3. My 7mm/08 recipe is........140 gr. Nosler BT 45.5 grains Big Game powder. Getting about 2,839 FPS. MV Shoots very accurate and consistent.
  4. You should just stay home. The sky might fall............or something.
  5. I couldn't agree more Larry. I met you and a few other WNY guys while hunting with moog. What a great bunch of guy's, and such a great time!!! I've met quite a few others from here too, that live closer to home. And every one of em have been stand up guys. I've made some lifelong friends from this forum! Some I have yet to meet! I really wanted to go to the last meet up a couple weeks ago, and was planning to ride down with Jdubs, a member that I've had the honor of hunting with. There are some guys down there, I've been wanting to meet for a long time!!! But sadly, on doctors orders, a pretty serious medical issue made me bow out at the last minute. I'm now working on getting better though! I will look forward to meeting as many members from here as I can in the future! What a great group we have!!! Any opportunity to go to a M&G is surely an opportunity missed by all those who do not attend. Have fun guy's!!
  6. I've had an Old Timer, 'Sharpfinger' knife for decades. Used it mostly for camping. Have used it doing some work around the farm too. Has held up perfectly and holds a fairly good edge. Fixed blade, big and small enough for most camping needs. Can be bought for under $30. That covers most all of your requirements Rob.
  7. We live close enough. Lets get together to shoot some time! Your place, mine, or the club I belong to. Would be fun. I don't shoot trad, but I am learning a new compound this year. I want to be totally confident with it by October 1st! A result of moogs influence and my needing an upgrade!
  8. This could have been avoided if he'd just left momma bear alone. She only did what came natural to her, protecting her cubs. She must have taken a good hit to roll her like that. Probably ran off and died a slow death. I'm all for protecting myself. Wouldn't want to be chewed on by any bear. But any time I see a black bear here with cubs, and we do, I give them a wide berth.
  9. Beautiful bow! You're going to have so much fun shooting it! Looking forward to all the "group pic's" this summer. And also the ones with that Bruin laying across a deer! Yeah.....that moog, has put some good influence's in a bunch of us here!
  10. YES!!!! You're right!!! I will happily admit my own inadequacies. I know one who can not......
  11. Super nice buck and mount work!!! Hope you gave the guy that did that beautiful work a real nice tip!!!! That really was a cool looking buck. I've never seen one like it before.
  12. Here are some FACTS for ya.......... Most hunters would like to see or shoot a big buck while deer hunting. Most hunters don't mind if they don't kill anything on a given hunt. Much more to hunting than killing. Most hunters would still be out hunting, even if they couldn't shoot a buck. Hunting is something different for every individual. Not a one size fits all. Sometimes intelligent people, have not a clue. As they refuse to listen. Some self proclaimed deer expert and his know nothing, stormy little yap dog, are really annoying. Some people really are totally blinded by their own misguided sense of self worth. The self proclaimed expert just loves to argue a point. That after a while loses all meaning, to anyone but himself. That FSW will come back with a snarky remark to this post, while I laugh my ass off. And feel sadness for his sorry ass. Those are some facts as grampy see's them. And I too think it silly to talk of myself in the third person.
  13. Happy Birthday reeltime!! Sit back and soak up all the good stuff surely coming your way!
  14. No doubt we can hoe another row or two today.
  15. Nope....not everyone. "If".... NY passed a law this spring, banning the shooting of ANY buck. I'd still look forward to opening day just as much. Would still spend just as much time and money in preparation. Would take the same amount of vacation days to hunt. My alarm would still go off at 3:30am on hunt mornings. Would still anticipate, and enjoy hunting, with friends and family. The sights and smells of the deer woods would be just as spectacular. It's the HUNTING, that gets my gears going! Not what I kill. Count me among the 99.9 percent please.
  16. I don't need anyone telling me what I should shoot. I shoot what I like. And like what I shoot.
  17. Gave her some flowers and a card tonight. She can enjoy them during the day tomorrow. A nice dinner out this Saturday. We really are best buds.
  18. Nice pictures! Thanks for sharing!
  19. That wouldn't happen to be a banana tree print on those shorts would it???
  20. Got around 5" of snow here, but it's changed over to sleet now. I'd rather have another 5" of snow, than this icy stuff.
  21. If by some chance, I ever shot a true booner, it would never be entered in any book. And outside of family and a few friends, a few from here no doubt, no one would even know. I've killed my share of mature bucks (none even close to B&C) that were perhaps among the best deer on the property that particular year. And each one has a story. A story that I'm happy to remember myself, or with my hunting partner. Other than that, if you weren't there, then the story is kind of boring. And the number of inches on his head doesn't really matter. Cause it's just another deer. Any deer I have ever killed, means more to me than anyone else. No matter how many inches of antler it had, or didn't have. Also, I truly never feel any jealousy at all, towards any hunter that kills a beautiful buck by fair chase. I'm always all ears, if he wants to tell HIS story! And I really love seeing the ones posted here each season, from the monster bucks to the spikes and doe. And reading the stories. Deer hunting to me, really is more than gross and net scores. So much more. That being said, Congratulations to the young man and his World record non typical!!! That is quite an honor to have killed the largest buck ever killed by a hunter!!! Can't wait to hear THAT story!!!
  22. Happy Birthday! Hope you have all the best in Family...Fun...Food !!!! (And Drink) Enjoy your special day sir! Where ya going in the Capitol district to celebrate??
  23. As we age things change, and we must accept it and do the best with what we have. You are noticing things with your shooting and adjusting to them. Perfect! Don't fight it, as it will only make it worse if you do. Hope those scores hold steady, or even improve for ya! Nice that you shoot with your wife too! For most of my younger bowhunting and archery shooting, I pulled 70 pounds no problem. As the shoulders got worse, I would drop poundage to be able to shoot comfortably. I'm now down to about 48 pounds and it's still not very comfortable. But I keep telling myself one more year. One more deer with the bow. Yup........it does suck to get older in some ways. Archery is one of them.
