  1. Gave her some flowers and a card tonight. She can enjoy them during the day tomorrow. A nice dinner out this Saturday. We really are best buds.
  2. Nice pictures! Thanks for sharing!
  3. That wouldn't happen to be a banana tree print on those shorts would it???
  4. Got around 5" of snow here, but it's changed over to sleet now. I'd rather have another 5" of snow, than this icy stuff.
  5. If by some chance, I ever shot a true booner, it would never be entered in any book. And outside of family and a few friends, a few from here no doubt, no one would even know. I've killed my share of mature bucks (none even close to B&C) that were perhaps among the best deer on the property that particular year. And each one has a story. A story that I'm happy to remember myself, or with my hunting partner. Other than that, if you weren't there, then the story is kind of boring. And the number of inches on his head doesn't really matter. Cause it's just another deer. Any deer I have ever killed, means more to me than anyone else. No matter how many inches of antler it had, or didn't have. Also, I truly never feel any jealousy at all, towards any hunter that kills a beautiful buck by fair chase. I'm always all ears, if he wants to tell HIS story! And I really love seeing the ones posted here each season, from the monster bucks to the spikes and doe. And reading the stories. Deer hunting to me, really is more than gross and net scores. So much more. That being said, Congratulations to the young man and his World record non typical!!! That is quite an honor to have killed the largest buck ever killed by a hunter!!! Can't wait to hear THAT story!!!
  6. Happy Birthday! Hope you have all the best in Family...Fun...Food !!!! (And Drink) Enjoy your special day sir! Where ya going in the Capitol district to celebrate??
  7. As we age things change, and we must accept it and do the best with what we have. You are noticing things with your shooting and adjusting to them. Perfect! Don't fight it, as it will only make it worse if you do. Hope those scores hold steady, or even improve for ya! Nice that you shoot with your wife too! For most of my younger bowhunting and archery shooting, I pulled 70 pounds no problem. As the shoulders got worse, I would drop poundage to be able to shoot comfortably. I'm now down to about 48 pounds and it's still not very comfortable. But I keep telling myself one more year. One more deer with the bow. Yup........it does suck to get older in some ways. Archery is one of them.
  8. Nice work John! So cool when you tackle something you've never done before, and it comes out awesome! My wife and your girlfriend are alike, in the way when they set their mind to doing something, just step back and let her go. Took me a few years to learn that stress free approach though!
  9. Looks like Flipper was trying to go deep, like that dolphin Dan Marino used to.
  10. We have a few of the old "permanent" stands scattered around the farm property. Some were built by us back in the 70s. There are places where those that hunted before us are still evident. My life long friends, fathers favorite spot. Bill made a seat, made by arranging the rocks in a stone wall fenceline, in the corner of a lower pasture, that overlooks a pinchpoint between two woodlots. Eddie's favorite spot was about six feet up, on the first limb of a huge ancient white oak tree. Just a foot long 2x10 was all he needed for his stand. He was the first hunter I ever knew to hunt from a tree. But he got his deer every year, even though he took a ribbing from his peers. That tree has been down a few years now. Ray's spot was just an old milk crate along the edge of what was once a hay field across the dirt road from where he lived. The pieces of the old milk crate are still there today. There was a swamp and hemlock grove behind his spot. And the deer he shot would be coming from there most times. Bill, Eddie, and Ray have been gone for many years now. They each killed deer from "their spots" most every year. And we have killed some there too. I make it a point to sit these places, at least once each season. To remember the men that took a fatherless kid under their wing, and showed him how to deer hunt. And gave wonderful examples of how a man should be. My ashes will be scattered around "the shale bank", as I've killed most of my best bucks, and so many deer within it, and close to it. My grandson will hunt with his grandson in my "spots" along it's oak and hemlock ridges. Yeah.......if those old places could talk. The stories they could tell.... But if you go there, on a cold November morning, listen to the NW wind. As the sun peeks over the trees in the east. You can still hear the whispered voices. And probably see a deer sneaking through.
  11. All ya need to do is insult, three quarters of the membership again, to get it started!
  12. Biz has expensive tastes. Think Weatherby, Mathews, and guided out of state hunts!
  13. Great deal for any high risk areas. Or even an extra eye for home security.
  14. Looks like you and ol' Krista had a great day, back then! Great picture, and memory for you I'm sure. I've never shot or eaten a morning dove. But there are plenty of them around here, and on our farm property. I bet my grandson and I would have a great time wingshooting them together! Though I'm not much of a wingshooter, I feel that any hunting opportunity, for ALL hunters, should be explored. Since doves are considered game birds in 42 other states. And the population is well within the whelm of support for hunting, I see no reason not to pass a dove hunting law here in NY. Even if I never shoot a dove, I support any hunter that would.
  15. Gotta say, that old thread had me laughing a bunch! Who won the fight up in Ballston anyways..........?
  16. A blind is the best way to bring out the youngsters. It hides movement and will cover some sound too. Those ghost blinds look nice, and very reasonable too! You will have so much fun taking your kids out with you. Way to go!
  17. If I were flying with Biz, he'd get them all, and I'd get none. That would make me feel depressed. But then as Biz started opening the large stack of napkins, we'd see that they were ALL from wolc! Inviting Biz to a buck nut dinner date! Then I'd smile to myself, while looking out the window.
  18. I can understand that! Just got a mental picture of my hunting partner trying to do a moose calll!.........
  19. Good luck with this year's draw Rob! This is your year buddy. When you draw the tag, please let us follow along from the scouting to the kill. Also the meal preps and cooking! Already looking forward to the posts!!!
  20. Nice way to wake up! Great that you are enjoying your new property. Will you hunt them come spring turkey season? You already have a nice blind!!
  21. You do have a great set up in your basement!!! Built in safe, room with desk and clothing, along with a 20 yard indoor shooting range! You really got it going on my friend! I don't have quite as much room, but have got some areas that work well for me downstairs. It's all organized well enough where I can find and get to anything I need. Will send some pic's after I get home.
  22. And who are they hurting with legislation like this? That's right, law abiding gun owners. They are not hurting the criminals one bit!! They will continue to break any law put in place. So what is gained by placing more laws and restrictions on law abiding citizens? Absolutely nothing! Except for political gain and posturing. If they really want to pass an anti crime, gun law. Pass a law with a MANDATORY ten or fifteen year prison sentence, for any crime involving a gun, on top of any other charges. Make possessing an illegal firearm a MANDITORY jail term! Makes sense to me, to get tough on criminals, not law abiding gun owners!!! But nothing coming from Albany or King Cuomo makes sense. Been a long time since we have seen ANYTHING that makes sense come from that side. Including fair taxes for the working people in this state. Or kingdom.................................
  23. Glad you're ok Elmo. Scary stuff!
