  1. My hunting partner grunted in a spike this morning from over 100 yards to 10 yards. Said he kept looking all around trying to find the other "buck" he heard. Said it was very entertaining!
  2. I hunt mostly from natural ground blinds. Last year, opening week of gun season, I wasn't feeling too good, and was hunting from one of my best blinds. Was in there for a few hours and had not seen a thing! Decided to pack it up and go get warm. So I did something I "NEVER" do! Stand up, before doing a 360 degrees look around. Yup.....coming in from my back left, was the number one buck on the property! I got just enough of a look at him, as he was bounding away into the swamp to sink my spirits, and to kick myself for the rookie mistake. Had a very nice 8 pt last Monday at 30 yards, to my right, standing in some very thick brush. He caught me moving into position for a shot, when he stepped out. A five minute stare down resulted in him going back the way he came. I should have waited, he probably would have walked to my front. I got too anxious. This is my 45th deer season. I still make mistakes that cost me deer. And over all the years, many deer lived another day due to my blunders! It's all part of what makes hunting so fun, and at times, frustrating!!!
  3. Good question Larry. I started hunting from some hub blinds this year and was wondering the same thing. My hearing is already not too good. If it gets any worse, it will REALLY annoy the Mrs!!!.....lol
  4. You need to buck up and do everything you possibly can to find that deer! That is the ethical thing to do as the hunter, that pulled the trigger on this animal. You have someone with the experience, kindly willing to help you. Take advantage of every opportunity.
  5. This is what being a true sportsman is all about. My hat is off to you sir.
  6. Deer Search will not go on any property that permission has not been granted. I will not pile on here. But there is so many things about this, that really should be reflected upon, and learned from.
  7. Exhibit B and C..... I could run through Exhibit Z here in 4-H!
  8. Here in my area of 4-H, that is quite common to see. Big bodied mature bucks, with racks well under 100 inches.
  9. Congratulations Shadd Rapp!! I'm out of "likes"........ I "like" a lot this time of year!
  10. Just over the top, and down a little ways on the calm side. Some hinge cuts would work perfectly. That way, with a prevailing wind at their backs, the deer will smell danger from the top, and can see it from below. And also be out of the worst of the cold NW prevailing wind in our area. If you need any help Matt, let me know.
  11. Nice bobcat. That's what it is.
  12. This! X - 100 ! Congratulations on a dandy buck!
  13. Gotta say....that moog is a "dang" good guy! Not many here, that he hasn't helped with advice or encouragement. Well.....except for Biz........grin.
  14. A traditional archery buck is quite an accomplishment! Congratulations!!
  15. Could possibly have just grazed the brisket or belly. A non lethal hit. With long white hairs found at hit site that would be my first guess. Finding the bolt will give more clues. Not knowing where the hit is, give it at least three hours before looking for it. But certainly follow up to be sure! A lot can happen in a 50 yard shot. Even with a crossbow.
  16. Same here Larry. Over the weekend and on monday, I saw a number of bucks. Every one of them were just cruising alone. By this weekend the chasing will be in full swing! The first hot doe's will also be ramping up buck activity big time! Saturday is the 10th, what I call the "magic day". Looks to be right on time this year!!
  17. Never, have I seen a wetter bow season. I've lost about six days, that I would have spent hunting. The high water has effected some of our best bedding areas. Forcing a change in normal deer movement patterns on most of our property. Deer sightings were very scarce through much of October. But buck sightings have been picking up a bunch, during the last two weeks. Mostly young bucks. But a couple of the big guys have been seen too. I've been close, but not close enough for a good shot. I feel some recent changes in set ups, will pay off for us soon. But it's been a tough season so far. A lot of adjusting to what the deer are, and aren't doing.
  18. That's really nice. And all this time I thought you choked your chicken?
