  1. I too like my Centerpoint over my Barnett Raptor. For roughly the same price the Centerpoint is MUCH better. That being said, the scopes on both are terrible, and need upgrading. Didn't even hunt with crossbow this year, as I wanted to get one more with my compound, and did. But next year, will most likely only hunt with the crossbow. So will be looking to upgrade. This thread has been very helpful, to see what the next level of crossbows offer. Now if full inclusion would get passed! But that has been debated to death here, and no need to derail this thread.
  2. Thanks Rebel Darling! We can never have too many reminders, to keep safe when leaving the ground. For every good outcome like this hunter had, there are many more that turn out not so good. There was a local hunter in Westerlo, that died this season in a fall from his tree stand. Strap in and keep safe everyone! Do it for your family's.
  3. Ithica Model 37 in 16g. From squirrels, birds, or any deer walking NY, this gun has it covered. And will never fail to cycle or go bang.
  4. Did mine this summer. Never again! Will hire out the job from here on. Just too shaky on a ladder now for two story work. Or even one story work! Not worth what would happen with a slip or a little too much lean. After 60, there are just some things ya shouldn't do anymore!
  5. He looks so relieved to finally be home! I see many rabbits in his future! Well, ya have Bones, ya have Otis, he looks like a Jingo to me!....lol Handsone pup there Paula, wishing you many years of fun together.
  6. I saw some deer movement on Sunday. Couple doe with fawns and a small 6 point that I passed on. All mid afternoon. Still getting a couple of big guys on camera. But only at night. My hunting partner has been putting in some time and reports just doe and small bucks at this point. Typical 4-H hunting, for this time of year. But they ARE out there! So don't give up, ya just never know!
  7. The one pictured in the link, looks exactly like the common brand of yotes we've had running around the hilltowns of Abany county for decades. Every now and then, a local will claim to see a wolf. But I'm sure it's a case of mistaken identity with a big coyote. From what I've read, there is DNA evidence of wolf, mixed in with the northern coyote. I've suspected that for quite sometime though. To me they are just yotes. Or sometimes targets. It is fun and great hunting, calling to them in the winter months! And they are certainly no push over! Even with good numbers on a property.
  8. Guaranteed good luck, if you wear a Judge jersey under your camo Biz! That nice 8 point could be in your hands! Just do it!
  9. Who knows, at any minute, a big knarly buck may come in to check her out! Nice having a live decoy out in front of ya! Good luck buddy!
  10. Didn't do much at all this year, compared to past years. But my grandson came over and we put a few strands out. Then my little hunting and fishing tree in my reading room. Pick up one or two ornaments for it each year. Usually from Vermont or Maine.
  11. Unless you own the land, always remember that blood is thicker than water. Yes, your dad has done right by the land owner for 30 years. Yes the kid does seem like kind of a deck. Yes you guy's have intelligently hunted the property for a long time. But all it will take is the landowners daughter, to say you guys are being mean to her new husband, and he will be the only one hunting there. Fair? Absolutely not. Likely? Very much so. My thought is that perhaps, you and dad can be a bit more friendly with the kid, and work out something that works for all of you. Even if you have to bite your lip to do it. Only you and dad, can decide if it's worth doing that.
  12. You just can't beat some of those old classics for looks and performance! This one is a true beauty! What caliber is it? Will you mount some glass on it?
  13. Being so close, if you were not asked to evacuate, it was likely no big deal.
  14. Back home, and feel fantastic, though a little sore! Saw two doe with a fawn each. And a year old, small six point, who will hopefully live to be a two year old eight point next year. The fresh air and sunset was spectacular! Best hunt in a very long time for me. Sleep will come easy tonight.
  15. Under Armour base layers are by far the best I've found. With a light wool layer over them. Not cheap but worth every penny!
  16. Heading up to the farm to sit mid day in an active area, in a blind. Still have sutures inside and out, so gotta go slow, on the short walk out there from my truck. This is the best medicine for me! A deer will just be an added bonus at this point.
  17. Love it!.....lol. I'd be smiling too. In the offseason, both Luna and Kunox, now have a partner in crime! Keep them busy! Wishing you all safe travels and and a well deserved break! You all did a super job again this year! Thanks for taking us all along for the ride. Your tracking journal is one of the best threads on this forum! My hat is off to you, and those two wonderful wirehaired dachshunds! Wow, what an awesome team!
  18. Thanks again everyone! Got a buck making daily walks by a blind that we put in for early bow. I passed on him early in bow season. But he would really make my season now! Just a short walk from my truck to this blind. Oh boy, what to do?
  19. My hunting partner just pulled some cam cards and he's making it hard for me to keep sitting in this darn easy chair! This is a blind we set up for early bow. Saw this buck a couple of times and passed on him once, as we have bigger on the property. But he is using this run daily, during daylight, and I can drive my truck to within 100 yards of this spot. He sure would make me feel better if I or my grandson could lay our hands on him! Gonna be a tough sell to the Mrs. though! Already told her, whats the difference if I sit in the chair here, or there? My buddy said just put him on the ground, and he will do the rest. Oh boy, here we go........
  20. Congratulations growalot! Nice shooting and some great eating!
  21. Congratulations! Way to hang in there and get it done! Beautiful buck!
  22. There are just as many deer at full or any other moon. They are out there! At this point, try getting in or near some of the thickest stuff you know of. Thats where the deer are now. Shots will be close. And the action could come at any time. Good luck!
