I see from another thread, there are not even any 4-H DMP's to give out. So whatever we got, we got, at this point. We'll make do, and be fine.

I agree. But like playing the Lotto, ya can't win unless ya try. My odds of "winning" at either one, are close to the same no doubt.

I did not initially get selected for the hard to get 4-H DMP. Wonder if it will be worth trying again tomorrow? Since there is no additional cost to try again, guess I have nothing to lose giving it a shot.

Just another example of why you should support your local gun shop! The 'sales monkey' (love that term) at the big box store, should not be trusted compared to a shop owner, who's business depends on good basic work to survive. And to be able to get sound advice to most firearms questions, is worth any added expense one might save going to a box store.

The 7mm-08 and the 25-06 will be very similar in felt recoil. Both very light on the shoulder, with 'dead right there' results on whitetails.

When I hunted with the slug gun, I'd shoot one box of five, before the season, and a box or two during the summer. Now that I hunt with rifles, I shoot minimum of four boxes of twenty, per gun, through out the spring and summer, up to the season opener. We have a shale pit range, and I do enjoy some trigger time! When I can find time to get over there.

I'd be more than willing to put something together, in a central location for the capitol district guy's, or anyone willing to attend. I will be out of commission after Nov. 28th. for a bit. So before then, or a post season get together is fine with me. Let me know what you guys think.

Antler size does not have as much to do with what I consider a mature buck to be, as age does. Anything past three years of age is an entirely different animal, than a year old deer. And I believe, for every year after three, they become twice as hard to kill as the previous year. Some of the most challenging deer in the woods to hunt are the old doe, five or six years old or older! But for a buck to live past three or four years, he has learned his lessons well! There are mature bucks out there, that will never die by the hands of a hunter, becoming 'almost' unkillable! That's ok by me. They are the ghosts that show up on trail cams at night, or perhaps seen only once, at fist or last light, never to be seen again.

My #1 is, guy's too selfish to take a kid hunting because it may, "mess up THEIR hunt". Sadly, I have seen this before. And tried my best to correct it. Not always successfully though.

For sure Steve. Not too many people like that anymore. This property no doubt, can hold 150" class, or better deer. And the way these guys have it set up with trails, food plots, and perfect stand placement, it truly is a great hunting property! But moog not only shared this property with me on the trip. He shared his home, beautiful family, hunting buddies, phade and David, his generosity, and most of all his friendship. It's hard for me to remember when, or if ever, I felt more welcomed, and at ease, from people I'd never met previously! And the get together Saturday night was just the icing on the cake! Meeting up with super hunters, Larry, Jay, John, Bob, Brad, David and of course Brian, was so much fun, again organized by moog. Yup, the trip was awesome! But most importantly, and special, is the beginning a lifelong friendship! Thanks again buddy.

I will assure you that grampy is not grumpy over any deer I have ever passed. And I am not sorry at all for just letting them walk on by, to create mayhem on mankind.

If I'm following this correctly, perhaps we should ban or kill all the cars! Because they hit and kill a thousand times more people than deer do? Then the deer will have nothing to run into! Make sense? About as much as the OP I guess........

What an outstanding group of guys and hunters! I enjoyed the company of each and every one! Good food and good times with some hearty laughter! Highlighted by "The Wheel"! You had to be there....lol Will be heading home in the morning. Due to the heavy rains no hunting. But I take home the memories of a great time and a memorable hunt. All made possible by the generosity and friendship of a truly great guy, moog5050. Already looking forward to our next adventure, in WNY or ENY! And thanks to all who followed along with this thread. Glad ya came along for the ride!

It was the most exiting hunt I've had in a while! Was up in a ladder stand called the bowl stand by moog and the guys. Was in and settled well before light. After having a breakfast fit for a king at moogs house! Was in the stand for a while and caught movement to my right and slightly above. Three doe moving through until they caught my scent and scittered away after some head bobing and foot stomps. Maybe half hour later with no more deer seen, decided to come down to pee. I am most comfortable on the ground, hunting at the deers level. So just set up behind the ladder stand on the ground, after nipping a couple branches. Had a real good view of a well used trail, loaded with fresh scrapes at just a few yards in front, and could see up and down the trail a good ways. And still had a good view of the bowl and wooded hillside over my shoulders. But pretty thick with blowdowns and brush too. So got the message from moog he's coming to pick me up, there's something going on over by phade. So as moog gets almost to me, I glance over my left shoulder to the bowl, and a 110 class 8 point is walking in it 50 yards away! Moog couldn't see him at first. But I figured I may as well try to position myself for a shot if he changed course . Well he did! He was heading my way but I had no shot! I think he caught me moving a half step to the left looking for an opening at 30 yards. So had to freeze and the stare down began. Then when he moved so did I. So we played the zig zag game for a bit until he was out of range for me, and up the ridge he went. But I will admit my heart was pounding! What an awesome hunt! And a beautiful buck! One I'll never forget! Sometimes it's ok when the deer win the battle.

Up and getting ready! Cant wait to see what the day brings!

Got here and moog picked me up to take a walk around the area we will be hunting. Wow is there a ton of fresh buck sign! Scrape after scrape and all within the last day or so with not a leaf in them. Some were clearly only hours old. Should be a great day to be in the woods, weather we get a deer or not! Moog has been the most gracious host. And has a beautiful family! I was treated to a top notch steak dinner, cooked by his lovely wife Ana. We all had great conversation and I felt very at home and welcome. And a great time talking fishing with Joel, what a great kid! Just tonight, was well worth the trip! Moog is good people. So happy to finally meet up with him. Everything has been awesome so far. The icing on the cake would be to have one of the guys, get one of those beautiful bucks roaming this awesome property. Better get to bed. Got a big day tomorrow. Thanks Brian!
