Anything by Jack London, but Call Of The Wild, is one of my favorites. Peter Capstick has some very thrilling reads on hunting the Dark Continent, and Death In The Long Grass, will have you on the edge of your hunting seat.

Happy Belated Birthday!!!

Or uptownredneck? Now there was a pot stirrer among pot stirrers! Even got me going a time or two. And I try, to not get riled up over too much of anything! He may of even gotten banned, not sure.

Way to go Fletch! Congratulations!

Now you are learning! The deer will always be your best teachers. Were you walking where the deer were standing, as you made your way to where you sat? At 6:15 the sun is setting, air temps are dropping a bit. Hunting from the ground, the dropping temperature may hold your scent a bit and even "spread"it out from you just a bit if there is no wind to push it away. You are on the right track by going to where you see the deer. But the older deer will take only so much of you intruding on them before they avoid that immediate area. So change up on them often. Or just get it done on your next sit! Good luck.

Wow! That looks, and I bet tastes unbelievably good! Thanks so much for sharing with us! Your wife is a very lucky lady!

Nice going Matt! Way to go buddy! Nice yote and great shot!

Pretty quiet here so far. But nice to be out.

You did right by dropping what you were doing to offer help. That hunter never would have recovered "his" buck without your help. Your ethics and morals are truly commendable. The other hunter should have voiced that to you, while tagging and dragging "his" buck. Don't let this stop you from helping the next time, for someone else. You are above all the bs. Nice job.

I'm up, so may as well go sit somewhere and swat skeeters. And hey, ya never know.
-
That will make the drag a bit easier! Also tie the front forelegs up around the ears to streamline em a bit more. Every little bit helps! Best of luck to ya on the 21st.

Patent for Hunting Product?
grampy replied to BizCT's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Pinstripe camo with the #99 in overlapping patterns? A summer sausage grunt tube? A trail cam that emits soft sexy doe bleats? Boots with built in GPS, so you never get lost and can find stands in the pitch dark? Arrows and bullets, designed to fly around trees? Whatcha got? C'mon Biz, the suspense is killing me! -
I've been fortunate, to take decent bucks and many deer, from public, and my own private land. I let most all of the deer I see walk now. Though a nice fat doe may be taken, when the time and place is right, for the freezer. Hoping my grandson or my buddies daughter, or a young hunter, will kill the doe or bucks that i don't shoot. Before the season I'll tell myself, I'd like to shoot this or that buck. Again, on our land, or public. But as the season goes on, I'll see a buck and let him pass, only to maybe shoot him later in the season. Because I saw him running doe, or fighting, or just cruising through, with snow on his back and vapor from his nostrils, one cold November morning. Then after I've built up a bit of history, I "may" decide to kill him, and always have those memories of seeing him doing what bucks do. Or having a certain buck bust you a few times, and win some battles, to show how hard he is to hunt, and really challenge me. That is always fun, weather he wins, or I do. I most likely will not shoot a buck, younger than three years old. As that is what it takes to form some of the above criteria, not how big his rack may or may not be. And it will not bother me one bit if I shoot no deer at all. Above all else, I now put more value in the hunt itself, than the kill. And it really makes no difference were that hunt is, my land, public land or invited to hunt a friends property.

Average age of hunting ny members post your age
grampy replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Average age so far.....43.7. That makes me feel much younger!.......smile. -
I too, have had contact with them handling a dead deer. But never had a problem with them just walking around. With all the infected skeeters and ticks these days, we certainly don't need more of a bug problem.

Blessed with 60 years so far. Looking forward to many more. -
Nice job, congratulations!! Beautiful fall gobbler!
-
A good hard frost or two would slow it down some for sure!
-
Congratulations!! Way to go buddy! Beautiful, plump, mature doe. What time are ya cooking up the fresh backstrap cutlets??? .....................grin.

Well, looks like I'm not alone! Leaves are dropping pretty good now but still plenty to go. This may be the year, where I use the mower and the snowblower in the same week!

What are deer eating, where? Stomach contents or what youy see
grampy replied to SonofGriz's topic in Deer Hunting
I have many times seen deer browse on sumac and poison ivy. -
Cut my grass again tonight. Pretty sure this is the latest I've had to cut it. And showing no sign of slowing down yet. Usually all done by mid to late September. But still have dandelions coming up! Will need to mow at least another week ot two! Never dreamed of cutting grass almost into November! Anyone else still mowing?

Love the long brow tines! The longer the better. That buck is cool!

Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?
grampy replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I'll answer. I advocate the crossbow as just another hunting implement. Something fun! Another tool. Another choice! That is 'now' legal for two weeks of archery season. I will still 'choose' to continue killing deer with my "real" bow, as long as I can too! Just as I have chosen to for decades now. No one was, or is stopping me from using my '"real" bow, because it too is a legal hunting implement. But it certainly seems that there are 'many', who 'choose' to stop 'me' from using a crossbow. Already deemed legal, in part of the NYS, 'archery' season, because of their own fears, misconceptions and lets face it selfishness. How can anyone, with a shred of brain activity, compare a firearm with a crossbow? It's just a cop out, because you think someone else will steal YOUR deer. Hell I've been stealing YOUR deer for decades with my 'real' bow! If something is legal, I don't need someone calling me a slob hunter, because I choose to use a different hunting tool than they do, or choose to hunt differently! With or without a crossbow, I'm still going to be out there as a "slob' hunter, stealing your damned deer, no matter what I choose to carry in the woods! -
Now that's old school! Very cool!
