  1. Just getting to meet you all and spend a day hunting with you will be a "trophy hunt" for me! I don't need to shoot a deer. If 'any' deer is taken by 'anyone', that will be the best picture I could take back home with me! How cool would it be if you tag this buck while I am there! Just 'SEEING' one of those WNY beasts will be a huge thrill for me! As my average 3 year old buck, is lucky to make 100 inches here in 4-H! Just counting down the days...........
  2. Great work from all involved! Go Luna!
  3. In a couple more years, he'll be a real nice buck!!!......................cough.....grin. Too bad you didn't get a pic of his right side! As there is a sign that says 'save for grampy'! Will be there in 9 days!!!! So excited to finally get to meet you guys!
  4. Beautiful buck Jay! Congratulations buddy! Way to go!
  5. I totally understand, and truly sympathize with your frustration. And I'm hoping a new area will be even better hunting for ya. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
  6. Hunt a different area than where you found the bait pile. If you are caught within shooting range, you can be charged, even though it's not yours. Seems as if that area has way too much going on, to be enjoyable to hunt. As for the ECO, could he be mistaking YOU for the dirtbag in that area? I've met a few ECO's over the years and most have been very professional and helpful. This one, from what you have told us, does not fit the norm.
  7. If you went back and found no blood for 50 -60 yards, wait until first light tomorrow. Sounds to me like a lethal hit. Blood will be easier to spot in the daylight too. You can also call Deer Search. After talking to a handler, he may decide to take up the track tonight. Especially if there are numerous coyotes in the area. What part of the state are you in?
  8. Great looking buck! Hope you put your tag on him!
  9. Only been out twice. Opening day saw 11 including a real nice buck. And last Saturday saw zip. Will get back out this Saturday with my grandson. Getting near peak foliage and still cutting the grass!
  10. Congratulations!!! Nothing like doing it the first time! Um...you know, with the bow. Great shot too. Way to get it done. Especially in 4-H! If I want a doe this year it will have to come with the bow, as I did not draw a 4-H DMP.
  11. Best of luck and wish you a speedy recovery Dom. This time next year you'll be running in the woods like a teenager!
  12. Welcome Dave! So glad you are joining us, good to have you here. A BIG congratulations on your doe this morning! Way to go! Four deer in four years, is awesome! I'm sure you have a bunch to share with us too. So nice you and your Dad are hunting partners! Doesn't get much better than that. Best of luck to you both, for the rest of the season! And join right in anytime, would like to hear more from ya.
  13. You're on. We'll find a way to make it happen! I'll look forward to it!
  14. We welcome you to the dark side, with the opening of the crossbow season Larry. It's not so bad! And I've enjoyed the pain free hunting a time or two! Even shot a doe with it year before last! And ya know, the sky did not fall, like many predicted it would. Enjoy and good luck sir.
  15. The song with your friend, and the story of the doe hunt were excellent Mike! Enjoyed them very much. Nice work on both! So good to have a hunter be able to express himself in a contrite, modest and caring manner. And not the "smoked em" fist pumping that is seen on TV. Of course after meeting you, I already knew what kind of hunter and guy you are. A darned good one. Congratulations my friend.
  16. 130lbs? 8 inches high? You got me beat!
  17. Good luck! Now get out there and lay your hands on him!
  18. Have a great and safe trip! Best of luck to you hunting! Looking forward to seeing the pic's and video of your trip! Take care sir.
  19. On the few mature bucks I've been fortunate enough to kill, I'd say 30% to 40% of them were killed between 10 and 2. With 10 to 12 being the sweet spot. Sometimes when I'm late getting out for whatever reason, and head in at 9 or 10, either I'll see them and put a stalk on. Or they are just cruising by, shortly after I get in and set up. And late in the season, when my buddy and I do small pushes to each other, that has paid off big too, during the mid day.
  20. Mr. Becker was a great teacher! He gave the hunter education class I took at 16, right in the school, on a Saturday morning. That was back in the day, when schools were not so uptight about such things.
  21. It never gets easier when we lose friends and family. May he RIP in the arms of our Lord.
  22. My Side Of The Mountain, was the first real book I ever bought and read! Think it was 5th or 6th grade. Recommended by an awesome teacher Mr. Becker. Started a life long love of books for me. I've read it to both my grandsons, when they were younger. They loved it too.
  23. Hope it's just a minor hiccup Larry, and with a bit of rest you will be fine. If not, go get yourself checked out. Definitely dont want to make things worse. After I could not pull my bow back in January, it was a surgery and months of rehab and PT, before I could pull it again.
  24. Enjoy the time in Dads stand! He would want that above all. Just look to your left, he's right there with ya my friend. You were always his right hand man. Thinking of you. While you think of him. Good luck out there.
