  1. As my youngest grandson is getting more into hunting and shooting, I seem to be buying and cleaning more guns. Along with my 'dream' rifle very soon! ( a Sako Classic 85 in 270 ). I've always just laid my guns on a bench or table to clean them. And in the process, I've dropped and spilled things, while cleaning them. So while out with the Mrs. yesterday, I stopped into the Field and Stream store to just "look around" and found the Tipton Gun Butler! This will be perfect for keeping the gun stable, and the rod, patches and lubricants, all organized while cleaning! For just $30, I think it will make cleaning our guns a bit more organized and enjoyable. I was actually thinking of just making one myself, but decided to just spring for this one. Anyone else use a 'gun butler' while cleaning their guns?
  2. I like the roughness of the wood! Gives it a rustic look. Coats of clear poly will make it nice and smooth.
  3. A folding knife my grandfather gave to me. It was an old Case knife that he carried on him every day. He gave it to me not long before he passed on, and I carried it with me for many years. I kept it on a 'boat' display shelf. When we moved to a bigger house a year and a half ago, all the stuff on those shelves was packed together. But after unpacking and putting everything back where it was, that was the only thing missing. I keep hoping that maybe I put it in with some of the many boxes of my hunting stuff. Or perhaps it got put into one of the boxes of things we decided not to put out in this house. I hope some how it just shows up as it's a link to my grampy. And I want to pass it to one of my grandsons before I take my final bow.
  4. Really surprised someone has not jumped on this! It really is an awesome deal.
  5. Good luck out there! Let us know how you make out.
  6. I saw half of the first episode. Wasn't what I thought it would be. I thought people would be "Hunted" by other people using paintball guns. If you survived by not being "shot" you won the money. I thought having some hunters, survivalists, woodsmen, or ex military trying to survive being "Hunted", would be interesting.
  7. It is a well known fact, that it takes two hands to handle a 'Whopper'!
  8. Is it possible that UTR is, in reality, a staunch right wing conservative? Who is only spoofing liberalism as a way to show it's ineptness?
  9. He's doing, or attempting to do, everything he said he would, before being voted in. Been a long time since ANY 'politician' has done that. He won the election to be our President.. So for the good of the country, help make America great again, or move out of the way !
  10. What an awesome story from a gifted writer and hunter. Thanks for posting. It took me with him, in the big woods.
  11. boo711, since I pretty much quit hunting out of tree stands years ago. This is exactly what I do now. Got dozens of them scattered over two properties. And each year, add at least two or three new ones. And always build them with what I find laying on the ground nearby. With a good sized tree as a back rest and used to break up the human form a bit. I love being on the the same level as the deer I'm hunting! Placed with wind direction in mind, many times I've had deer close enough to touch! And have taken a number of deer with both bow and gun from these blinds! I have thought about building one large enough to put in a blind like the OP described. For those drizzling days during the pre-rut when the big boys could show up at any time, to stay nice and dry. I have a dog house blind that may work as I'm very comfortable shooting my bow from a sitting position. Looked up the Big Mike blinds, they look really nice too!

On one of my hunting properties, it is common to see them during bow season. On another property I see them mostly in the winter. They are one of the coolest critters to watch in the woods! Saw the first one in my area about 20 years ago.
  13. That is a neat find! I let my imagination run, and think about the day it was opened, who was there, and what the occasion may have been. Perhaps a bunch of hunters, enjoying a sip or two, following a good meal, after a cold and rainy hunt? Some good friends and family enjoying each others company? Or even a nightcap, after a particularly hard day of work? Who knows for sure? But that is surely a cool find.
  14. Wooly is right on, definitely beaver tracks.
  15. Sorry, I just wanted to edit and it re posted?
  16. moog, you have already made a 'GIANT' leap, by just deciding to do it! And it really is as simple as just eating less! It's ok to leave a little on the plate. And a handful of baby carrots or celery sticks for a snack instead of ice cream, cookies or chips. But continue to eat what you enjoy, just less of it. You will notice the weight coming off slowly and over time. The best way to lose it my Dr. says, as it tends to stay off. It's really just about changing deep seated habits, than about torturing yourself. If I can help you in any way just PM me my friend. Good luck and you got this my friend! Sorry for derailing the thread.......
  17. So sorry for the loss of your beloved Jenny. You gave her such a good life. She repaid you with loyalty, humor, field work and companionship. Saying goodbye to our four legged family members, is one of the most heart wrenching things we do for them. They never leave our hearts, and we carry them with us until the time comes to be together again. Until that time Larry, know that she is in a good place wagging her tail. With her head cocked to the side, loyally waiting for the time when you will scratch her head again. My deepest condolences sent.
  18. When the time came that I needed the Mrs. to help me get my hunting boots off. That's when I decided, enough! No fad diet or anything like that. Just putting less food in my mouth and eating more healthy, low cal beer, and cutting the 'habit munching'. Also being diabetic, I walk the tightrope every day. Seven years ago I was just over 300lbs. Today, at 6' 1" I weigh in at 194lbs. I still enjoy most all food, and even sweets. Just "smaller" amounts and within reason. But I'm thinking a 'fish sammy' is in my future for this weekend!
  19. Happy Birthday Gentlemen! A little late. But a big "high five" to you both!
  20. Oh yeah. A big thumbs up for Ted's fish Fry! A little pricey but worth it for sure. The one on Western Ave. is closest to me, and my favorite! The clam roll is pretty tasty too!
  21. In the country or in the city, or burbs. Laziness has no boundaries, for those who are lazy. I'm too busy to worry about what others are doing. But as a society, I see more and more people, depending on someone else to get things done.
  22. Absolutely stunning pictures! Owls are just about my favorite birds to watch. I've never seen a grey in my neck of the woods.
  23. You guy's have me thinking about the stinger heads. They look as if they could be more apt to plane with the large flat surface. I too shoot low poundage, 53lbs. and I'm looking to get the best penetration possible with a 100 grain broadhead. I have tried 125 grain heads, but my bow just did not like that set up as much as the 100 grains. I have been using the NAP 3 blade Thunderheads, and really have no complaints about their performance. But my curiosity is up about the stingers. And I have no desire to shoot a mechanical head with a low poundage bow.
