In hunter education courses, it's taught, to NEVER try to load a round, that is not designed for that firearm. So I find it outlandish, that on a hunting forum, someone would would post of loading a 270 into a 30-06! C'mon man....

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
grampy replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
Simply put, my point is, hunter access and poor management of DMP's in NY are the biggest detriment to the deer herd. Not the hunter that just wants meat in the freezer. Or the hunter that will hold out all season, if need be, to shoot a 150 inch five year old buck. What I'm saying is the choice should be with the hunter. Not by someone sitting behind a desk in Albany, who has never hunted in their life. Open up more areas for hunter access in high density spots. Adjust the DMP's on a more local level to coincide with the deer population for that area. Perhaps even adjust season dates. But don't tell me what to shoot! And I've always felt that EVERY deer is a trophy. -
OP's first post too. Might be a ad grab or even a scam. Who knows? Seems almost too good to be true. Maybe he'll come back with some answers.

I'd be more than happy to take a youth hunter out, with dad of course. But this youth weekend, I'll have my grandson out, trying to get his first turkey. If later in the season, you still have not connected, shoot me a PM. I know I can work something out for a private land hunt in the hill towns of Albany county. No money necessary. Payment can be made, after you get the hang of turkey hunting, by passing along, what you have learned, to another new hunter. The youngster does have his NYS Hunter Safety Course and Jr. hunters License, I assume.

Great question! For me, it is always my life long friend, property and hunting partner, Gary. Followed by my wife and grandsons. Many times over the years, we have been hunting together, when one or the other scores. But we are always excited when the call comes, saying "Got One"!!!

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
grampy replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
To some hunters, a deer doesn't even need antlers to be a 'trophy'. Others may consider a yearling spike to be a 'trophy'. And another hunter may only consider shooting the biggest mature buck he can find as a 'trophy'. None of these hunters are 'wrong'! Beauty is in the eyes of the individual hunter. We just do not need more legislation to tell ANY hunter what to shoot and what constitutes, as a 'trophy'. Buy the tag, go out and shoot what makes "YOU" happy! Hunting can be as easy, or challenging as you want to make it! And everyone should make their own choice! What is right for me, may not be for some other hunter. We are all in this together. And I refuse to force my way of hunting on someone else. JMO............ -
I've been hearing of this for years. If indeed there is a problem with certain 700 triggers, why would Remington, not correct it right away? Remington is one of the most popular brands of firearms in the US. Why jeopardize that reputation?

Had some strong gusts, late this afternoon here in the Albany county hills. But so far all is well. Hopefully those hard working power guy's get the lights on soon for ya. And I hope the little one feels better soon too.

Absolutely! This has been a very good, informative thread. Just a bunch of hunters sharing ideas, with no bluster or bickering. Very refreshing.

John, finding someone who has some experience, and going with them a few times will shorten the learning curve quite a bit. The spring turkey woods, are one of the best times of the year to be out there. After getting out, more often than not, you will develop a lifelong affliction to chasing turkey's in the spring. Give it a go this year if possible!

That's a cool find! I've seen some similar to that over the years, but never in as good shape as that one. As stated, they usually have bullet holes or are so rusted, it's hard to read them. Gotta say, you happen to find the coolest stuff, while in the woods! Must be those eagle eyes and an acute way of picking out every detail in your travels afield. It shows, from what you post here, that you spend more time out there than most. Hope some day our paths cross.

Thanks moog! That explains my question perfectly! Now is there a minimum length, that I should be looking for, when picking out a bow? As you said, not so great with shorter bows. I still have your number. If I'm going to go full at this. Perhaps I'll just give you a call, at some point, so I can ask all these dumb questions, rattling around in my numscull........... grin!

Now that is cool! Thank you sir.

That sounds cool! Be nice to get something like that for bass tournaments and hunting! I'll google when I get time!

Can someone explain the fixed crawl, as it pertains to a recurve bow? It's been 30+ years, since I've shot trad, and I always shot centered, with one finger above the nocking point and two below. That seemed to work for me then, as that was how I learned. Also if I were to get 40lb. limbs or even 35lb. would I be able to pull this, with my bum shoulders? My compound is set at 53lbs. And at times that is very painful to shoot. As I've stated, I may come full circle and take my last archery deer using trad gear. That would mean a lot to me if I could possibly pull it off. I suppose I should just get to a pro shop and see what they have, and see if it will even be possible, before I get myself in a tizzy, about going trad again.

We should probably clear up the crossbow issue first. But it does seem we are riding a slippery slope here. JMO.
