Bumper crop of apples this year. Below average acorns. About average hickory and beech nuts. Plenty of berries but they are being eaten up quickly by all sorts of critters. In the hill towns of Albany county, 4-H.
  2. Nice buck! Three year old.
  3. The best deer round is the one that just dropped the deer you are standing over.
  4. Boo boo size bear. Give him two or three years to grow to a Yogi.
  5. That's a big nest! Could have been pretty dicey if the inhabitants were still there.
  6. So many good choices out there. 308 and 7mm/08 are only two of them.
  7. Happy Birthday ! Hope it's all you want it to be!

    Bump for the Big E.
  9. Very cool. Be nice to see before and after pic's when you finish!
  10. Works for me. And no crazy side effects.
  11. Hope you have good weather and no more beak downs! Body or machine. Would be nice to see how this plot goes, start to finish. Perhaps even a pic of you with a deer in there this season!

Happy Birthday! Hope your day is filled with family, friends, good food and drink!! Enjoy your day!
  13. I would say the brow tines of a buck. He pushes his forehead into the tree, makes the punctures with the brow's then moves his head and neck up or down then repeat all over again. Have seen them do this many times. And have seen a lot of pine trees and hemlocks tore up by bucks. When a bear marks it's territory, it will reach up as high as it can to show how big he is. When another bear finds the mark, if he is bigger he will mark higher than the first bear as a sort of challenge. Or if he does not measure up, he may mark as well but will move along and not stay in the area.
  14. Maybe even have hunters and tree huggers hold hands and sing cum ba ya before heading to the stand to do DEC's work.
  15. Whooee, that is a BIG buck right there! Just shows what a few years of age will do. Even in NYS.
  16. Deer like edges. Like the edges between swamp and hardwoods, hardwoods and conifers, open fields and thick brush. Along these edges, somtimes are very well used trails from bedding to feeding area's. You may have such a place here. Find the trail and set up down wind of it for a potential hot spot. A well placed trail cam will help to confirm how many different deer are using the area. Good luck!
  17. Very nice. I really like the look of the lever and leather. Don't see that very often!
  18. Nice deer, the excitement is starting to build!!
  19. There are so many things that seem to be more complicated than necessary these days. I too like to keep things as simple as possible. The simple duplex crosshair works just fine for me.
  20. Savage Axis in 7mm/08 that my wife gave me for Christmas last year. That is what I'll be carrying this hunting season.
  21. And during regular firearms season, could you carry a gun and a bow?
  22. I don't see many guns older than me out there, still getting the job done. Still reliable and killing deer. And I think a very cool looking gun too!
  23. That's awesome ! Good luck up there this year. Food and a good wine is always a hit and shows your appreciation.
