There is a stump in front of the tree. He stood on the stump and got it about six feet up. Said,he didn't want the deer to see the cam. At 11 he's learning fast!

A very generous member on this site (phade), recently sent my grandsons, 11 and 13 years old, a trail cam. They have both spent a lot of time in the woods with me the last few years. Though they both enjoy the outdoors, the younger one, Zac is just nuts about deer and hunting. So this being their camera, we decided Zac would pick the first spot to place the cam. I let him lead the way in our woods out back. I told him that he was to pick the spot based on what he knows about our woods. So he did this all on his own, picking the exact spot, and even hung the cam himself. Thanks phade from me and the boys. #1- Nice doe #2- Up and coming buck #3- Same buck ? Not sure what do you guys think? #4- ?? #5- Can you find the deer? #6- My grandson Zac

The 2015 Season is Creeping Up Fast, What is your game plan?
grampy replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Going to have my 11 and 13 year old grandson's much more involved with my hunting this year. Especially the 11 year old, Zac. He is head over heels about hunting and anything to do with outdoors. He tells me that his idea of going green is wearing camo! Though he is too young to hunt deer,I want to shoot one with him with me this year. The three of us has been shooting bow and rifle and making natural ground blinds in our woods out back. Also a very generous member here, (phade), gave the boys a trail cam that they are excited about. We're hoping to go out tonight to see what they have on there. I have had over 40 hunting seasons. Killed many deer and a few nice ones. This year I'm giving back. To my grandsons, and any new hunter that could use a helping hand. -

Here in 4h, we are surrounded by AR's. Only a matter of time now before they implement them here. I usually let the young bucks walk now, but I can see where the choice should be up to the individual hunter. Especially the older new hunters coming into hunting. To old for the youth season, they are building experience and confidence in their hunting abilities. Just like any new hunter. The young bucks and doe's fit for that nicely. Then later in their hunting career they can choose not to shoot the young one's or just continue to put meat on the table. We should have a choice when we pay for the tags!

Surely all the critters will be happy and well fed on your place from all your hard work. Way to go grow! -
Sounds like a good plan to me. You sure do grow a lot!

Interesting shotgun round…..arrow in action?
grampy replied to First-light's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Not sure why they are developing something like this, doesn't make much sense to me. It will never be legal to use in any archery season. My bow and crossbow is much more accurate. So is my my old deerslayer 2 shooting sabots if I want to use a shotgun. Just don't see where something like this would fit in. Not to mention the cost would be even more than the $15 to $18 per box of 5 sabots. -
Have you tried Wolverine boots yet? They are very comfortable at work for me. Also check out skechers work boot with the memory foam, they are comfy too. Good luck with your search, bad feet really are a pain!

The thing is, no matter how many gun laws they pass, even if they were to abolish the second ammendment. It would not stop some deranged individual from getting a gun and creating havoc. Stricter gun laws may make it just a bit harder for criminals and deranged individuals to get their hands on a firearm. But they will get them easily enough. The only people that suffer with the strictest gun laws, are the law abiding citizens. What a shame and what a travesty.

They look well fed too. -
I hope we all still have a little bit of that shake all over excitement after a successful hunt. After more than 40 hunting seasons, I still do! Cool video, thanks for sharing.

Absolutely Belo. To each their own. The world would be a very boring place if we were all the same. It's the differences in us all that keep things interesting!

I researched my Proctologist by hand size. In this case smaller is always better!

The Beman ICS hunter here also. With 100 gr NAP fixed BH. Thinking about changing over to 100 gr Slicktricks. Although I have been getting pass throughs and good results with this set up.

When farting, I don't need a grunt call. I swear I farted one in once!
-
Hate when stuff like that happens! And I feel your pain, but did get a good chuckle from your post. Because it is usually me that things like that happen to.
-
Nice that you could check one off the old bucket list! Looks like you had a blast too! So cool, and for a good cause, a win all around.
-
I do agree with Doc. Keep it simple and just hunt! And a little common sense goes a long way. If you have a bunch of deer shoot more. If you don't, shoot less. Simple.

That is the key right there. Don't move so much! It does not matter what camo you use if you are adjusting your hat, swatting at bugs, standing up and sitting down, whipping your head around with every noise you hear, the deer will pick up that movement every time. I hunt 90 percent from the ground now, mix and match light, dark, and different patterns depending where I'm going to set up. I don't get too concerned about the camo, as just sitting still and being quiet will make a bigger difference. And if still hunting, same thing. Move slow! When you think you are moving too slow, move slower. Pause by a tree or brush to break up your outline. You are doing it right, when you see them before they see you on a consistent basis.

Kinda like a wreck that you just can't not look. Oh boy......
