Sticking with the 100 grain NAP thunderheads for the compound. They have never failed me yet. And shoot great out of my old bow. 100 grain slick tricks for the crossbow.

Sounds like a great time! Wish I was closer, I'd be there! Have fun!

Nice, how did you get that buck to smile for the camera?

Welcome! Glad you found us. Try checking the web on the state land you want to hunt. Most will have info that may help you out. Also the DEC site may have some info for that area as well. If you get up to the capitol region, I can point you in the right direction to some decent state land hunting. Good luck.

Welcome ! I can't help you with L I, but there are a couple real good guys on here from down that way that may be able to. Good luck!

Darn, I'm helping over at my buddies farm all day tomorrow and got a family thing for Sunday. So I can't get away at all this weekend. Perhaps next week some time I can skip out of work for a bit during the day. Very busy time of the year for me! -
Luck does come to play in most endeavors. But skill and preparation tip the odds in your favor more often.

G-Man is right on the money. For a smoothbore shotgun, warping will not be an issue. And the 500 is a great gun! I have owned a Deer slayer 2 for over 20 years with a nice walnut stock and never had a warping problem with it or any other wood stock firearm. And have had it out in all kinds of nasty weather. Still shoots two inch groups at a hundred yards.

Where are you located? Could you meet me in the Guilderland area? On Monday? -
I have my cocking rope short enough that it's tight in the groove at the top of the stock. And the clips pull the string back about an eighth of an inch. The handles are at the string. Pulls back to belt high for me. And very easy for 150 pound pull. The cocking device that came with my Barrnet Raptor, works well, but is very noisy with loud clicks. A deer could hear it from a good distance away. So I just prefer the cocking rope. The cocking device on my crossbow mounts on the stock. But I think some others slip on over the butt end od the stock too. Hope you find a solution that will work well for you.

At what time should you expect us for dinner?

Welcome and glad you stopped by! With only a little over a month until the bow opener, time is getting short to be ready, if you have never shot a bow before. The best advice I can give you now, is to decide what weapon you are going to use, THIS year. Then to shoot it as much as you can until you become comfortable and proficient with it. Then you can begin your hunting adventures, wherever you hunt. Good luck this season!

Very nice offer. Way to go wooly!

I too bought the Barnett Raptor last fall. Definitely not top of the line but is very functional and accurate. The scope that comes with it is not so great and I'll be upgrading it with a Nikon very soon. Came with the cocking device also, but I just use the rope, as it's quicker and quieter. All in all, it's a good crossbow for the money. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. Good luck using it this season! -
Nice! I don't have one.............yet.

So, who am I going to give permission to hunt my property? The smart a$$ with an attitude who thinks he is entitled because he is all that and more. Or The guy who shows up at my place with a hearty hand shake and warm smile, looking for a place to hunt with his kid, who is not afraid of work? Hmmmmm.............
