  1. Nice that you could check one off the old bucket list! Looks like you had a blast too! So cool, and for a good cause, a win all around.
  2. I do agree with Doc. Keep it simple and just hunt! And a little common sense goes a long way. If you have a bunch of deer shoot more. If you don't, shoot less. Simple.
  3. That is the key right there. Don't move so much! It does not matter what camo you use if you are adjusting your hat, swatting at bugs, standing up and sitting down, whipping your head around with every noise you hear, the deer will pick up that movement every time. I hunt 90 percent from the ground now, mix and match light, dark, and different patterns depending where I'm going to set up. I don't get too concerned about the camo, as just sitting still and being quiet will make a bigger difference. And if still hunting, same thing. Move slow! When you think you are moving too slow, move slower. Pause by a tree or brush to break up your outline. You are doing it right, when you see them before they see you on a consistent basis.
  4. Kinda like a wreck that you just can't not look. Oh boy......
  5. Here kitty, kitty, kitty...... $$$$
  6. I called a close friend who happens to be a NYS trooper and asked him this question. Again this is not legal advice, so take it for what it is. I was told that as long as it's a long gun and not a pistol or a now not legal version " assault rifle ". Someone can legally shoot your rifle in your presence. As long as you are following all laws like distance from buildings and roads, and the person is not a convicted felon, you should be good. He also thinks the safe act laws are poorly written and hard to understand, even for LEO'S. And understands the confusion of the law abiding citizens, trying to stay that way.
  7. Looking forward to seeing how it all goes. I have never done anything like this. I find it very interesting and cool! I'm sure when they are finished, they will be amazing!
  8. Maximus7, if you ever get up to WMU 4h in the capital district. Just PM me and I'll be happy to have you tag along for a hunt or two.
  9. This is what it's all about folks. Hunters helping hunters, to make it better for someone else. And remembering how it was when you started out. Then in time have them pass something along to another hunter. This is what hunting needs more of. And I've seen it time and again from some really good people on this site. NFA-ADK, that is a very unselfish and generous offer. Hope the new hunter can take advantage of it. Offers like that don't come around too often anymore. Way to go!!!
  10. It shows, that you and Mr.B raised them up right.
  11. Wow,nice buck! Love those brow tines! Agreed, that he will add more inches between now and velvet shed. Good luck with him this fall!
  12. Thanks to ChainReactionGC for the give away of a beautiful call. Congratulations to G-Man being the winner! That was fun!
  13. Summer for me is the busiest time of the year at work but I have been doing..... Baseball games with the grandsons. Walk in the woods. Floating in the pool. Fishing. Cutting just under six acres of grass once a week. Playing music, guitar and singing on the deck of local lakeside restaurant /bar, parties and campfires. Garden. Shooting bow, crossbow and rifle . Watching sunrises and sunsets . Stargazing. Having a good adult beverage now and then. Grilling anything anytime. Helping friends and family with anything that needs to be done. Working on the farm. Looking forward to the fall, when all I have to do is...... Hunt !
  14. Have you aquired any hunting gear yet besides firearms? Things like.... Hunting boots for early season and for cold weather. Camo clothing, no need to go expensive here look for sales, for now . A good base layer works wonders when it's warm out or cold. Use multiple layers when it gets colder. A decent knife for field dressing your deer and game. Keep it small, 3 or 4 inches will do most jobs. A good comfortable foam seat to carry along will make any sit more enjoyable. There is an endless list of things to consider for hunting. At first try to keep it simple until you see where your hunting journey is taking you. Then just add as you need or can afford. Try to learn somthing new with each outing. And above all just have fun!
  15. I'm with you guy's too! And I'll add Home Improvement, Tim Allen cracks me up. This might really put me in a bad light, but I kinda liked watching Hee Haw with my parents when I was a kid. So please don't tell anyone I told you that!
  16. Welcome! Lots of good folks here that will be happy to answer any questions a new hunter may have. Remember, the only dumb question, is the one not asked. We have all been where you are now and will be there when you need us. What game will you be hunting? What will you be hunting with? Bow,shotgun, rifle? What part of the state will you be hunting? Will you be able to tag along with an experienced hunter? This will shorten the learning curve quite a bit. I wish you a lifetime of hunting adventures! Good luck!
  17. Beautiful sunset! I would have been tripping too!
  18. Our parents and grandparents said that our generation, the baby boomers, were a bunch of long haired, dope smoking, lazy, dumb, kids and would not amount to anything. But I think, for the most part we turned out ok. So will the kids of today. Times are a changing, move forward or be left behind. If anything I think it's much tougher to be a kid today, than it was for us.
  19. 30 years for my wife and I. Still don't have her figured out. When I think she's going to zig, she zag's. She is my best friend and it's true, opposites do attract!
  20. I don't know how big the bear is that made that track. But I can say with certainty, that it was alive when it made that track! (:-)
  21. Not as quick and nimble as I used to be. I would be an easy kill.
  22. Steve gives down to earth advice without all the bling. He just seems to make sense to me.
