Didn't need snow camo once during deer season this year! So we were overdue here in the hilltowns of Albany county, for a good shot of snow. Like silent death showed, we are forecasted to get 20 inches or so. It is what it is. I'm ready, and will deal with it. Though I don't enjoy winter all that much anymore. Talking to my brother living in SC last night, who laughs and says c'mon down bro! Retirement is not far off, so perhaps I will move back down there??

Thank you! But like Nomad, I had my chances too. We had two giant bucks on the farm this year. Bucks like these, are seldom seen in our area. And I made the decision to hunt, and hold out for only them. I have been wanting to do something like this for the last few years. But always, when the first decent buck showed up, I could not pass on him. This year I passed up in both bow and gun season, bucks I normally would have shot. And had a close encounter during bow, with what would have easily been my biggest bow buck ever! I gave hunting those old monarchs all I had, and would not change a thing! They certainly humbled me!! And in a certain way, I'm almost glad they won. As I edge very close to my 50th hunting season, hunting those bucks reignited a spark in me, that I thought had burned out. This year I lived my motto of "Shoot what you like. Like what you shoot". Without firing a shot.

2020 season is à wrap for me. Hunted every chance I could since October first. No deer killed. But I truly had an enjoyable season!!!

No long sits today. Just short ones, while my buddy pushes some cover. Our two man loops have been very successful in the past. A benefit of decades hunting together. And on the same property. Good luck to all heading out.

Last weekend. Time to fill some tags. Hopefully we will do that.

After holding out all season for two special bucks, I'm going to try and fill some tags this weekend. My partner will do some small pushes to me tomorrow. This has produced some decent bucks in the past for us. Sunday, we will both push to his daughter. Not sure if I'll be able to hunt again after this weekend, with work and family obligations. But if I do, it would be with my bow in the Pine Bush. So last hunts on the farm this year. Will do some predator hunting after the holidays. Been a long time since I didn't get a deer. But I'm good if it happens. I truly gave getting one of those two bucks my best shot. And wouldn't change a thing if the season were to start tomorrow! Was an honor to hunt those monarchs of the woods.

I think you would make a perfect participent. You're as real a hunter, as they come my friend.

I'm definitely pulling the trigger, and punching the release, with much less gusto than I did many years ago. I do really enjoy the meat. But will, and can, certainly survive without it. Will one more set of antlers, or another mount, make big a difference to what I already have? Nope.....not really. I seem to enjoy the chase, more than anything at this stage. My final stage, will just be as a mentor.

I would have shot him!!! Like Nomad, for the first time in many years I still have my buck tag. I've been after two specific bucks all season. I have passed on a couple other bucks, that I probably shouldn't have. But was in for all or nothing. I got nothing. And barely any deer on camera now too. So, with no meat in my freezer, I am going for the 'brown it's down' this weekend!

Just to keep the peace, on a good private hunting spot, would be worth a sum that you can afford. If your spot in the hardwoods, is between the proposed plots and bedding. It very well could be a bonus to you? For one or two hundred bucks, and you don't have to do anything?? A no brainer I think.

I'm out in the cut blind. A couple of doe's crossed at first light. Nothing since. Will pull it out this weekend. Along with the other two hub blinds. My hunting partner will do some small pushes to me later. I'm no longer going to be so selective at this point in the season. But hoping he can get one of the big boys up to me? We'll see?

It's admirable, the amount of time and effort you have put in, trying your best to find her. I know the feeling, and it hurts. Time to get back out there and redeem yourself now. Good luck.
