  1. Great pictures and some nice looking deer there.
  2. I have a few stands to put out. I did a fair amount of scouting after the season, so I know which tree's will get stands. It's just a matter of getting them up in place.
  3. Great photo's of a fine looking specimen. They sure are cool looking animals!
  4. Great looking buck there for sure! Maybe the rest the of the group went thru on the other side of the cam....or cam thru right behind him and the camera was set to wait a min before triggering again?
  5. I will do a half dozen all day sits a season. Some are long days with a 1-2 hour walk to arrive before daylight and getting back out to the road quite late. It takes some planning, but it's great to maximize time in the stand on peak days during the season.
  6. The deer are here to stay..... unless some catastrophic environmental disaster occurs. So maybe in 100 years hunting will be done with a drone operated device, which deer will learn to outsmart by hiding in deep thickets during deer season. Hunters will complain about the lack of deer while numbers stay stable.
  7. I camped in the Adirondacks...St Regis wilderness area last week and some fishing. It was a bit slow for the most part, but I caught some real nice fish including an 18" Large-mouth, a 16" small mouth and some nice pan-fish too. All taken on a light trout rod.
  8. I have 12 stands that I use on some public and some private land. 1 ladder and 11 hang on's. This is about the time of year I work on a few, thanks for the reminder.
  9. I usually swap the cards or relocate a cam after 3-5 weeks. I try to time my cam checks to be before an approaching rain to help wash away odors. Sometimes I'll leave a camera alone for a few months too, it all depends.
  10. I use mine mainly to capture cool pictures of wildlife. I target bobcat, deer, bear, fishers and it's a lot of fun. It's great to see what the deer heard looks like, but I don't get too excited when I get a photo of some nice bucks, because the area where mine are set up is pretty large and I rarely if ever see the big ones when out hunting. Most of the older deer pics are night time. The two cams I've had out all June are on bear and cat trails where I've had success in the past with getting photos. This time around I have my Browning cams set to take 1 min video, so I'm really looking forward to see what has passed by this time around.
  11. Here's another vote for Browning. I have 3 Dark OPs and set them all to video and they have worked really well. Pictures are easy to share and great, but when you get a video clip with sound it's like you were there.
  12. I played hooky this past Friday and fished hemlock a few hours but only caught panfish. But I'll be out the opening weekend of bass somewhere.
  13. I put out two cams on state land here in the last week. One on a trail that bobcats like to travel, in hopes of some good video of them, as well as deer and other critters. And another near a stand location that I want to keep tabs on, and has produced some good pics in the last few years. It's neat to pull the card two months from now and see a bucks antlers grow as he passes by each time in June and July, plus getting a picture or video of a bunch of other animals is always a thrill.
  14. Anyone have chickens nearby? Nice picture, caught red handed!
  15. Beautiful weather here this am, calm 52 and overcast. I have been hearing a few right from my back yard all season but this will be my first time out.
  16. It sounds like your in a location that hold some birds and sometimes it just takes a while to figure them out. If you hear them on the roost, then try to determine where they are going once they hit the ground. I tend to sit tight for an hour or so, because they often come in with out making a sound and once we are moving, it's so easy to bump them. But moving slowly and glassing can be productive around ag fields. Good luck and have fun.
  17. Another job well done. You sure are talented and have an eye for that stuff.
  18. It's about getting young hunters out with the best opportunity to have some action and keep them interested. I've heard gobblers sounding off behind my house pretty much every morning for the last 2 weeks. Last weekend would have been a good chance for them to get out to at least hear birds, probably see them and perhaps get a crack at them....before the seasoned hunters (who've had several successful spring hunts under their belt) arrive opening morning and harvest them or put the flock on high alert. But some hunters frown on it because "their bird" was harvested or made tight lipped. It's the same with early bow, or the youth early gun...some fear "their" buck is going to be taken before they can get out there.
  19. I always seem to have a stand or 2 that I only make it out to but once during an entire season, due to distance it takes to get to them. I can't say that I have any stand that produces wall hangers or really good rut activity consistently.
  20. Here's some info on the harvest trends for each county, which might be helpful: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30420.html
  21. Some look to be full of eggs. How many feet of water are they in this time of year?
  22. Yeah, he's doing a few things foolish there. It looks like he's aiming his cut with the saw up around his neck and face. He's lucky it didn't turn out much, much worse. Anytime the saw is up higher than ones chest, control of the saw is greatly reduced.
  23. That's a really good look on a skull. Is it carved or painted? I almost has a burned wood look to it. Nice job!
  24. I didn't hear any birds this am. I'm guessing they are up in the tree's trying to dry off. The wet conditions may be tough on nesting hens too.
  25. I have cut firewood for many years and have always worn good hearing protection and safety glass or sunglasses. I have too many friends that can't hear a turkey gobble in the spring, so I'm glad I've worn protection all these years and still have excellent hearing. I wear hearing protection when mowing or using any loud power tools. Protecting your eyes is just as important so glasses are a must as well. I also wear good work boots, long sleeve shirt or a light jacket and gloves.
