Low odor, high energy food and plenty of h20. Pecans, walnuts, raisins, apple and maybe one candy bar and a 5hr energy drink in case I get sleepy. And I will have a feast planned for when I get home that evening.

I live to hunt, so I buy clothing on sale but purchase high quality items that will keep me warm, dry and will last a long time. For example, my Rocky Bear Claw boots are over 10 years old have seen a few hundred miles but are still in great shape. Now a days you can search on line to find the lowest price for just about anything, which can save a few bucks and have it delivered to your door. Just sayin'.

Warm weather newbie... What to do after the kill
genesee_mohican replied to MoneyPit's topic in Bow Hunting
I get mine home as fast as possible, hang it up, skin it right away and then quarter it up and take it to the fridge. 2 back straps, 2 hind and front quarters I remove all the shelves from the fridge and put all the meat in there to cool. Works like a charm if you can do it. -
When do you stop entering the woods before the season opener?
genesee_mohican replied to SteveNY's topic in Deer Hunting
Stop going to the woods? What? I hunt several areas and I try to get out at least once a week during the off season. Most of my tree stand work is done so I do try and stay away from stands that are all set. I did set up a new stand this past weekend and I'll be scouting the next few weeks as well. I try to be scent free, stay away from known bedding areas, but I'm in the woods weekly year round. -
I just enjoy being out there all day, live for it, and many of my stands are 2 + miles off the road, so I don't feel like coming out after a few hours on stand.

Around Oct 24th. Prior to that I'll sit a few hours am and pm, maybe scout a new area. All day sits can be very rewarding and I've seen and taken some nice bucks mid day. The stand should be a good funnel stand which one has a lot of faith in. A comfy stand, super warm n dry cloths, binos, a good lunch, h20 and patience make for an enjoyable day.

If a person actually burned down your tree stand and the tree it was attached to, then you may want to look for a different property to hunt. It doesn't sound like much fun to me. Just sayin'.

Looks to be a cedar tree. Red Cedar

I only buy a bow every 15 years or so. Current bow is a 2004 Parker, and it seems like brand new to me. It shoots great and I see no need to update.
-
I prefer white or yellow, something bright so I can see where my arrow hits the deer.

You can start them anytime of year, and now is as good as any. The licking branch is key, if one is not present you'd have to place one and it needs to be about 4'10 to 5-4' off the ground. I place a licking branch in a spot where I want the buck to stop so I can get a shot, and make a scrape under it. Taking a good pee in the fresh dirt get's it going and you should soon see signs that bucks are using the scrape.

He has nice long tines. Sure he'd be bigger next year and if you have him on 500 acres of land that you manage, he might be one you'd want to see grow another year and sow his seed.
-
Since the first of the year I've done miles, and miles of hiking/scouting, running 3 cameras for fun, relocated 4 stands, trimmed all others out. Everything has been sighted in and I'll continue to practice until end of the season, then start in again with scouting in January.

trail cams... which ones?
genesee_mohican replied to LET EM GROW's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
I have 3 Moultrie mx80's good trigger speed, battery life. night time pics are not the best and there is some blur on moving animals. I'm sure the newer Moultries are a step up from the mx80 sure, not that I'm looking at them I want to buy another! http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Optics/Cameras/Trail-Cameras-Accessories|/pc/104792580/c/104752080/sc/104243580/i/103867380/Moultrie-M-880-80MP-Infared-Trail-Camera/1803116.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrail-cameras-accessories%2Fmoultrie%2F_%2FN-1100265%2B1000004070%2FNe-1000004070%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat103867380 -
Looks like a great place to hang out at.

Nice job, he's a heavy deer, great rack. I'm not into scoring or aging on the hoof but he's a beauty for sure.
-
Nice buck, looks to be the same one as they were snapped in the same minute on time clock.

12 ga and 22lr

looks like those old antique marbles. A hackberry tree maybe or an ornamental of some kind?
-
As long as I'm healthy enough, I will make the trek to the quiet places where I see very few hunters and have a good chance to see a nice buck, along with all other kinds of wildlife. 2.5 miles in, fairly steep in some locations. All day hunts, I live for those days.

Awesome video

I'd take a picture of the bear or better yet....try to get some video to have and be able to show others later. Then keep deer hunting.

I carry one in my pack all bow and gun season. One of the most important items.

Birds of a feather flock together. Just like seeing does and bucks out in a field this time of year, it's normal.
