  1. Well said trophyhunter. I'm going... and taking a buddy. I've always wanted to meet and listen to Charles. I'm sure his photography alone will be worth the drive and I'm really looking forward to this!!
  2. It is getting old. When I joined the site a year or so ago I was drawn to see what hunters around the state are doing and up to. I'm still on here but have thought about just calling it due to some of the arrogance and know it all mentality from some of the members, belittling pissing matches and gigantic egos.
  3. Beauties! I wouldn't get much done if they were in my yard. I'd end up staring at them all day.
  4. You have issues! j/k I was sitting in one of mine last weekend because I was checking shooting lanes and trimming after the summer growth. Sure gives me something to look forward to.
  5. Rocky Bear Claw. Waterproof, warm and durable. The pair I have now must have 50,000 miles on em and still going strong.
  6. I try to keep it light as my walks are a long way in and back out. For an all day sit during archery or gun: - bow with 3 arrows or gun with 10 rounds -first aid kit, cell phone, lighter - safety harness - light clothing on the way in and I pack extra clothing and or a heater body suit to keep warm and rain gear. - H20--> at least 32 oz, and some low scent food, nuts, an apple, raisins, (ok... and a candy bar or 2) - binoculars, range finder - extra gloves, warm hat - head lamp and flash light for tracking - knife, field dressing gloves, zip lock bags - paper towel, wipes - rope - hand warmers - my back pack is a high quality light weight day pack made by Badlands >>>----------> GM
  7. Nice job on cam placement/setup. A bear first time out is a bonus and 1/2
  8. 5 - 10 minute drive from my house to hunting spot 30 mins to 1 hour walk to get to stand before daylight I prefer to sit all day once late Oct arrives
  9. 44 years of hardcore hunting and fishing here.
  10. That's a great deer!! Super wide and his brow tines are awesome too. I hope you get another picture a few weeks down the road.
  11. The picture has to be fake. The people don't look like they are together and I doubt Target mgt would let a group walk into the store with guns displayed like this.
  12. It's great to see them. We have quite a eagles nesting here in Livingston County. They have really established themselves and are a fairly common site.
  13. Good point. Most practice on level ground but hunt from a tree stand. I'm always amazed at how different it feels from 20 feet up on that tree stand with hunting cloths and a safety harness on, shooting at all kinds of angles. I step it up just before and during the season and shoot with my hunting garb on from a stand in my yard. It helps.
  14. Nice bear pics. They are tough to come by around here.
  15. I have a target set up in my yard and I can shoot anytime I wish so I tend to put a lot of time in. I practice out to 60 yards for a few reasons. It hones my skills and makes me become even more accurate at closer ranges. It's a blast to see the arrow flight and you can get a good feel for how well the bow is tuned. When it comes to hunting, My set ups are for shots under 30 and try to keep it there, but am ready for longer shots if the situation presents itself.
  16. Here is some great advice from experts: http://www.motherearthnews.com/organic-gardening/how-to-prune-an-apple-tree-zmaz76ndztak.aspx#axzz34zjcP9Sm
  17. I've been picking up bottles from old dumping grounds for many years now. I usually come across them while hunting, scouting or fishing. I have some of the old milk bottles and beer bottles that were made locally. They sure don't make em like they used to.
  18. Nice looking start to his growth. And he must be pretty smart to have snuck in on ya!
  19. It looks like another step was taken today. The state Senate approved a bill (S-5855B) on Tuesday that would add Livingston County to the list of counties that are authorized to hunt big game with rifles. The legislation must still be approved by the Assembly. http://www.thelcn.com/lifestyles/outdoors/livingston-county-rifle-hunting-law-passes-senate-awaits-assembly-vote/article_74d3caf8-eb6e-11e3-90a3-001a4bcf887a.html
  20. The shooter said that "he filled the void in his life with violent video games". I wonder when someone will start asking how young minds are affected by spending hours on end shooting people over and over on these simulated real life killing senerios. Anyone else seeing a pattern?
  21. I've worked 3 cameras all winter and was rewarded with some good pictures. This week I switched out cards, added new batteries and relocated 2. I've also been finishing up a few new tree stands set ups this month, and will continue working the cameras all summer. You never know what's gonna walk by out there.
  22. Hunting is a great sport, and I hope you grow into the sport and find that you enjoy it to the fullest. However, if your trying to save money on wild game meat by starting to hunt then you may be in for a surprise at what the actual cost per pound of meat ends up being. Also, unless your hunting a fenced area, I don't believe we have any elk in this state. GM
  23. That is a great picture. They sure are beautiful birds and this photo captures it all.
  24. I like being down by the Genesee River bottom in Letchworth Park and often think of all the Native American History there. I wish I would have went with something shorter.
  25. I was hiking and outdoors all day Saturday, I noticed a tick on me in the shower at the end of the day. It was pulled off carefully with tweezers and confirmed a deer tick. I was thankful to get it off in time. Wear tight clothing and check yourself after being out in the field.
