License fees are gonna go up and up. As long as there is less and less hunter's every year. They have to fill the void. And like gas prices and everything else that continues to rise. People will continue to pay. Just hope I never see the day when I will have to take out a personal loan to hunt.

Climber. It's amazing but some stateland that I hunt. there are a couple hunter's who leave climber's in the tree for days ,and said nobody has ever bothered them. I would either go in extra early in the morning, get set up well before the deer traveled through. Or for a sit in the evening,if I had a two way trail,I may leave it overnight. But I would never leave a stand or any of my belongings during daylight hours on public land.

Some happy hunters! Nice birds!

It's too bad everyone couldn't determine the age of a deer on the hoof. Combine that and antler restrictions and then hmmm. I watched a 2 1/2 yr old ,16 inch 4 pt,make it to a 4 1/2 yr old 20 inch 4 pt. We never saw him at 3 1/2. He went somewhere else for a season. But because of antler restrictions he was off limits. In the mean time he was still breeding. Now that is one of those rare cases. But age structure along with ar's should be considered. Nice buck you shot.

I was waiting for the. I use to walk 5 miles to school barefooted,in a foot of snow. Uphill both ways. The best statelands. I have 4 that i pop into here and there. If there is a lot of people and i'm hunting in the morning I go the furthest from the main access points, and get there well before light. And if I get there for an evening hunt I stay closer to my entrance. And if there is snow. I will hunt them more than a day. The worst stateland I'm not big on hunting smaller sections of stateland. I always seem to find the bare spots at the base of trees with cigarette butts and candy wrapper's on the ground. "Man this looks like a good spot". And there sits a heap of TP 10 feet away or some sacrificial piece of a garment. ???

When do you usually do your scouting for deer season?
TH41 replied to Geno C's topic in General Hunting
Anytime I'm i the woods through out the year. -
O'Boyle rules. Stick that thing with a hot needle! I'm gonna be sick. Thats a keeper. I agree, I wear rubber gloves. Not for fear of infection's. Don't want my ham sandwich to smell like deer innerds. And the only time I have cut myself gutting a deer was on a sharp piece of bone. Actually twice. One splitting the pelvic and the other on a piece of rib bone my broadhead busted off.

I only missed it because it never happened. 1000's of employee's in the DEC and they can keep this secret?? ??? ;D ;D While we are talking conspiracies, does anyone know where the black helicopters are hangared? I work on them everyday.

How long was the beard on that first one? Nice rope there!

It was hard huntin last spring ,but as always ,a fun one. NY birds My daughters first gobbler. Number two during the regular season dodged her pattern. Nice longbeard too. This year she'll make up for it I'm sure. Pa mountain bird he was a tough one . Had to go down through some big a$$ canyon and straight up another. We actually got a double the third guy in our group missed. Had two out of four longbeards give up the ghost anyway. Don't have pics of the other one. It was a good mid morning hunt.

Thank you. I am spoiled and very fortunate to have some great places to hunt birds.

Very cool pics! BOOM! :D

Not sure if this will work, This gobbler was in gun range. But we had a much larger bird off to the right, that we were after.Watched him all preseason and really wanted him to hit the ground. This guy got it later on. Two yr old he gobbled nearly everday until a friend dropped the hammer on him. This tom had a few hens all season. He lost part of his fan by seasons end from fighting. Didn't have much for a beard and was only two. His spurs were under 3/4. He walked and terrorized a few buddies.
-
We took some of them in the pics. The one big lone gobbler in the greenfield was a season long target, my buddy missed him either the last day of the season or day before?? Finally got him to work good to a set up. And at around 40 yds my buddy shot just over his noggin. Off he flew out of our lives. Maybe he is still around for this season? He had some long hooks so not sure?
-
3" #5 extended range. Used them for several seasons with no complaints.
-
We have one or two a year we nickname. But being a family forum can't disclose the names we give them.LOL!

I like those long hooked ones, the old dudes of the mountain ;D Nice birds!
