I checked one of my morel spots today, nothing yet and the ground looked surprisingly dry. I thought it would be wetter. I will check again this weekend maybe...

Happy birthday to you two. Live it up,this is our birthday month, haha
-
That looks awesome. You sure eat well, that is good to see. I love food as well, here is my birthday dinner. It was delicious. The trout tasted amazing, and we managed to only eat half of it. It wasn't easy to cook in the oven under the broiler,it barely fit the baking sheet!

I wish i could find my one cam i hung in the snow last year....

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I had a nice day and i am cooking up that monster trout i caught on Sunday right now. Some mashies and steamed greens with it,and some brown gravy.

You could use 1 tsp arrowroot dissolved in 1/2 cup of water to add to the sauce,it is a nice thickening agent. If the sauce is still not thick enough,repeat...

scuds i am not sure about, but lots of insects and crayfish for sure. The river has the best hatches in this area. It is a neat ecosystem, the schenevus flows into the susquehanna, and a couple of good sized creeks feed the schenevus along its way, lots of water and spawning ground.
-
My Buddy and I floated the Schenevus Creek today with a canoe and i got this slammer Brown,my biggest ever out of a creek. He hit a cp swing spinning lure and measured 22". The water was just a little cloudy and just high enough for us not to scrape bottom in the shallow broad riffles. The meat on the fish is super pink,he either was a native or stocked a few years ago,but the creek has plenty of natural reproduction.

wow,you guys are a week or two ahead of us. This one is purty good, hence the sideways pic, haha

You got dandelions already? Not flowering though, right?
-
Matter of fact one horse power ins measured for a steady output, but one horse can peak well over five horsepower if not more for a short period, like pulling a heavy load up a hill etc...

Black and brown ones in the same spot, awesome. Maybe I will have to head out and check my spots soon.

Aha..I am a little leary using mechanicals, just because i like simple things better. I am shooting 60#,probably at a tad under 300 fps. Did you ever have trouble with the mechanicals? I have no experience with them.
-
You are so right. Last year i had confidence after shooting with field tips. but when i put the broadheads on things went to sh*t fast. And there is nothing worse than second guessing everything. Now i know my string was going fast, but at the time i was perplexed. I am surprised to hear the bloodtrails were poor with the montecs, what did you change to?

At last weekends 3 D shoot i teamed up with an older gentleman that was shooting a 40# black widow traditional. Man that thing was pretty and he did well with it. Someday i will have to try that as well, but for now my new/used compound is making me very happy.

it is still early, morels wont be out for a few weeks here in Otsego County.

Who has bird feeders, and what interesting birds have you had
BowmanMike replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
We put feeders out mid winter and the birds ignored them for a long time. Now things are crazy,we have not had this many birds here ever. We got red winged blackbirds, grackles, yellow and purple finches,a cardinal,a tufted titmouse, sparrows, chickadees, juncos and the coolest thing is a group of 10 or more evening grosbeaks. I have never seen those before. My wife said they used to be common when she was young, but then vanished, some disease hit them hard, but it is neat to see them come back. We usually have some house wrens here too,but they have not arrived yet. We also have robins and some swallows. It really is crazy with birds here right now. We are also waiting for our resident flycatchers return. -
Happy Birthday Buddy!

I just got back from my first 3D shoot this year,40 targets. It went well, didn't loose an arrow. Some of their targets are over 40 yds. The bow shoots well and is very forgiving. I had a pretty good flinch/twitch on the release on one target an it just made the arrow hit a little left. So happy with the bow. In another month or so i will get lighted nocks and montec broadheads and try those out to make sure everything is dialed in and i will have plenty of time before hunting season to make sure everything is tuned right.
-
I got the bow plus a rest for target shooting and a pro grip for $500. It was a sweet deal, the guy started at 650,but it was up for a while. Nice guy to deal with. I was looking at another set up,but the guy seemed shady and his feedback was horrible. Archery talk is a great resource. I think the bow retailed for 1300 new in 2016.

fenced,like a 7' fence?
-
i have a small excalibur that i really like, they come in all sizes though.
-
man, that is more morels than i would find in a month!! They hide too well in the leaves for my fading vision. I know a few spots, but they are sparsely populated, like 5 or 6 morels to a spot
-
sound plan,it is beautiful

I didn't know I loved a black bow,but it is kinda sexy.
