  1. I tie my pull rope to the climber, then pull the bow up when i am all set. That is if i remember to tie my bow to the line. Never had to climb with the bow and cant even imagine that. I do climb with my backpack on.
  2. a lot can be avoided with common sense. I work on ladders and scaffolding a lot,so i feel pretty good about climbing a ladderstand or screw in steps or climbing sticks. Things do happen that we don't expect as well though,so better to be safe than sorry.
  3. i am taking a break,i have been out 4 or 5 times so far..Got a chimney to finish on my house,so i had better get to that before next weekend.
  4. Always pass on those. I have not had a big buck tempt me like that, but i would like to think he would still get a pass. Wounding a deer because of my ego/greed is not on my to do list. The way i hunt i know it is going to be luck for the most part anyway if i happen upon a slammer. Scouting is difficult in my area since i hunt high ground mostly and there are no crop fields, just some hay fields. I did pass on a 6 point two years ago that gave me that shot.
  5. I am sitting these warm temps out. I have to remind myself it is still early and i will get stuff knocked off my winter prep list this week so i have more time later.
  6. I went out for the last hour of light just up my back pasture. I saw some does in my neighbors field before i got to my stand. I tried putting the sneak on them but the wind was terrible for it. Pretty sure the winded me and dropped down into a lower field. I tried getting close again, but they saw/smelled me again. Third time i saw them they were in my ancient apple orchard, this time they snorted and took of. At least i saw a bunch of deer today and didn't spook them in any of my good spots...
  7. 31 yds with the broadhead. I could have shot one of the deer i saw this morning, same distance, but too many saplings. Next time maybe...
  8. I had two doe and a little six come through, finally some action. The strolled past at 30 yds but they all looked smallish and didn't present a good shot anyway.
  9. I heard the first ones at 6.36,legal is a few minutes before 7 here in 4F. Not the best mentoring there, but i guess it is important the kids get one as well. Heard about 10 to 15 shots total, not all from different people though.
  10. In a stand not too far off an overgrown hayfield. My sits so far have been so uneventful that i was excited to see a squirrel on the tree next to mine. Thats pretty bad...I wish that one minute that changes everything would come to pass...
  11. Can one move a lifeline from stand to stand if i leave a pull rope set up over a branch? I am reluctant to spend the money on a lifeline for every single stand set up.
  12. I get bored sitting in the stand if i do it too much. Then i turn into a ground hunter for a while. Last year i drew back on a decent buck while the doe he was following circled me,he was wondering what she was nervous about and stopped, but just behind a tree that covered his front half. I couldn't move because of the doe. She busted me a few seconds later when i tried. That was hella exciting though, just hiding behind a tree. I go back and forth between the two,or three because stillhunting is fun too.
  13. I have not found a single rub on the property i hunt yet,not sure where the bucks are this year. I hope they are just taking their time. .Maybe it is time to explore another corner of the 300 acre woods..
  14. I also thought it was a perfect morning, but saw no deer, until i left. Then i saw some in every field i passed,i guess the woods was a bad choice.
  15. My guess is 3.5,but i know very little...
  16. I went for a stillhunt and managed to see some deer before they saw me. Then i lost track of them as i tried to get closer, and then they saw me before i saw them and the game was up!! They hung out where i thought they may be though because of the wind direction. It was fun,and then i got wet...
  17. I am going to go still hunting and then hopefully stalking right now before that front comes in. Should be nice and quiet and maybe i can catch a deer off guard, and then go beyond catching it...haha.
  18. thats why i want to get three deer during bow. I better start soon, get a doe to take the pressure off.
  19. I agree, wouldn't force it this early in the game...or later either.
