  1. I've involved the NYS Police three times in the last 5 rifle openers regarding the same two trespassers. These trespassers were physically confrontational and very threatening. Very aggressive guys who had some existing police records (I learned one of them had spent time in prison). Each time the NYSP took my report but told me that unless they actually saw them in the act, or if I had second witnesses, they wouldn't do more than just talk to them because it was "he said-she said". I had a one backtag number, their names, and one of their phone numbers. I finally wised up and spoke to my local DEC officer. He was all over it and encouraged me to follow through with pressing charges. Thankfully, it's been two years since we've had an encounter, but that DEC guy put himself in my area on opening morning so he could respond quickly to my phone call. The NYS police were useless to me for enforcing trespassing laws.
  2. I took a hurried pic this morning when I remembered. It's kind of a busy background, so it may be hard to see but mine lays right in, held by the limbs.
  3. I believe we've let deer lay overnight four times, and the yotes got at them twice. So 50-50 for our place. My neighbor let one lay two years ago, and we went back out around 10:00 pm with lights to track it, and found it destroyed by a bear. The crime scene covered a 50 yard area, and then he dragged what was left through the woods. There was good snow on the ground so it really did look like a crime scene. We went out again in the morning and found where he stashed it in the woods.
  4. I have the same double grip holder on my ATV, but no pics of my bow in it. If someone else doesn't post a pic, I'll try to get one tonight. I "lay" my bow in the grips on it's side if that helps.
  5. That's pretty cool! Gotta give that one a pass, right?
  6. My condolences on the loss of your mother in law, and congrats on the first deer at the new camp.
  7. Reese's peanut butter cups. One per hour to pass the time in the stand. Always have to have at least one in the pack for luck. So if I eat the last one, I may as well get down. Dehydrated apple slices with no such restraint..
  8. I had a Dodge Ram for about 10 yrs since new. Transmission failed 1500 miles out of warranty, and besides that I put close to $6000 in repairs over the 10 yrs I owned it (not counting tires). You name it, I fixed it. The truck had terminal rust in only 8 yrs. I bought a '07 Tundra in 2010. 100,000 miles later and the only things I've had to do is a battery, tires, and brakes. One small spot of rust starting on the tailgate. Only Tundras for me from now on!
  9. Hope you heal quickly Grampy!! There's plenty of season left for you when you're up to it again.
  10. Thanks for the roadside handoff - got home with no problem!
  11. Woo-hoo! Less than 24 hrs now!
  12. I've got a couple of those older Motorola talkabouts that still work fine, but I'm thinking of an upgrade and I'm a bit out of touch on the newest and best ones. I see these things advertised by range (up to 38 miles), but I don't necessarily need to reach out that far, we're usually all within 2-3 miles max. I realize they are line of sight so terrain renders them almost useless even if we're all within the same mile, but I'm wondering if the more powerful ones can "burn through" the terrain a bit. Smaller is nice too as the talkabouts are a bit bulky compared to some of the smaller Midlands I see. Love to stay with the cell phones but coverage is spotty where we hunt. What's everyone else use and like/dislike?
  13. She'll get her choice of the best stands!
  14. Ordinarily I wouldn't bow hunt a lot in the rain, especially this early. Just get too worried about losing a blood trail. But my daughter was able to get a rare extended weekend and is coming up from out of state for her first ever archery hunt. We'll be out, but very cautious with the conditions.
  15. Fixed Slick Tricks on the compound, Rage Hypodermics on the crossbow.
  16. Some "teenagers" showing off in front of the young lady.
  17. Welcome to the forum, you'll like it here!
  18. Full inclusion, or super special early fawn season?
  19. What's that got to do with stop and frisk? I don't think you have to actually frisk anyone to find they were carrying an AR, they're not very concealable. Will that "fix" the problem in Chicago? Why do you want to take away legal gun owners rights to a legal firearm?
  20. The better ones make a whole lot of difference. I smoked for 40 years, and quit many times but never more than 6 months. I did try a cig about a year ago and didn't finish it, just wasn't as satisfying as the vaping. That pretty much told me I'm done with tobacco for good.
  21. Good luck Rob, you can do it. I started vaping two years ago on October 1st and haven't touched tobacco since. I feel a lot better and didn't gain any weight. If my lungs aren't thanking me enough, my wallet sure is!
