Have a great birthday!!
-
Agreed, I just never saw it look quite that way before.
-
Thanks Wooly - good info here!
-
Makes sense Wooly. I've got similar pics of the one you posted, but it makes sense that it may be the very beginning of shedding her winter duds. I've had several hundred more photos of the local does, and haven't seen it again exactly like that one.

Here's a zoomed in look. Definitely long things, not only on the chest, but from the ear to the flank. Seemed too much to be quills, but that's all I could come up with.
-
I had pulled this card back during May, but just got around to looking at it and saw this all over this doe. I was thinking maybe a porcupine's quills? It almost looks like she was showing it to the cam. ETA: I didn't crop it to make the image larger, but you'll have to zoom in to see the detail.

OK! Buying Ammo Online Question
Steuben Jerry replied to DirtTime's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
There's a couple more besides Targetsports that will, (I don't recall the companies at the moment), but 99% of them are too spooked to do it. Selection is OK as they seem to vary the available stock but prices aren't the greatest. -
OK! Buying Ammo Online Question
Steuben Jerry replied to DirtTime's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I ordered online both times. There was a period of a couple of weeks where they suspended sales into NY addresses, but whatever spooked them for a bit got worked out. That may have been back in March. I purchased on either side of that pause. -
OK! Buying Ammo Online Question
Steuben Jerry replied to DirtTime's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I've bought from Target Sports twice earlier this year. No issues at all. It's legal to sell over the internet until the NYS background check is implemented, and there is no current schedule on that. -
Congratulations on making it to retirement - I hope you enjoy each and every day!

Hi All, So I've never been much of a mushroom hunter, but love to eat mushrooms and just haven't taken many opportunities to hunt for them. While out pulling camera cards yesterday, I found this, which appears to be a nice batch of Chicken of the Woods fungus. I can find cooking tips on quite a few websites, but I wanted to ask here among the community I know (sort of) if there are things to keep in mind like look a likes, what not to do, etc. ETA; I have no idea why the pic posted sideways. Can't seem to fix it. Thanks in advance! Jerry

Congrats on a great bird and a quick hunt WNY! Great photo story too!

The doe and fawn are from yesterday's card pull. Pic was from the 19th. My buddy almost stepped on the bedded one yesterday walking out from a morning sit.

Sorry to hear about it Belo, it happens, and sucks when it does. You mentioned deserving a bashing, I don't think so at all. Thanks for the story. As a casual Turkey hunter, it was helpful to me!

Wow G-man, nice job, and nice truck - very unique!

Glad you're staying PB!

Good news on the retina not being an issue! That's got to be a relief! I just had an eye appointment Wednesday, and confirmed that there's nothing (legal or ethical) that they will do for a floater. She did say it's most likely it'll move around (hence "floater") as mine is almost dead center in my vision. At least it's not my scope eye! I may need glasses in the near future though. Made it to 57 w/o them, just readers since late 40's.

Finally! Hoping this gets signed into law. The one change I'd make is to increase the maximum fine. I see it got changed from 2k to 3k, but I'd go 10k for each deer.

Congrats on your first bird, Zeus!

Congratulations! Way to get it done on a lousy weather day!
