Nothing worse than to be out x-country skiing and have a snowmobile blow by at 35 mph let alone 60 or 70. We have had them pass us a number of times in the plains but never at those speeds. To each their own but those kinds of speeds on a snowmobile or boat just ain't for me.

I will be pulling mine tomorrow. Good luck with the beavers...I don't do any water trapping.

They both work but I am experimenting with a lure I have never used to see how it works. So far not so good. I didn't plan on getting to serious with coon anyway since they aren't worth much.

Luckily for me that is not an issue. The mud really sucks but the area I am trapping is all plowed so I am catching the edges and a couple sets in the woods. For me tearing it up isn't an issue but the mud is definitely the pits.

Last night was pouring rain & 40 mph winds, right now it is thunder, lightning, & rain with 40 mph winds forecasted for tonight, Snow on the way for tomorrow, temps going from the teens yesterday, 40's today, then back in the 20's. I had two dug out traps this morning. Hard to keep them going in these kind of extremes. I'll leave them for tonight and probably pull them tomorrow while I can still get them out of the ground.

I have four out just for giggle and haven't had a hit yet. Any I do catch I will probably turn loose. More of a experiment than anything. Trying some trigger lure this year with not much success. Congrats...Nice looking coon.

Congrats on the coyote. Tough keeping the traps going in this weather. 7 degrees yesterday. 47 degrees today, and snow tomorrow.

None of my business but anybody doing those speeds on a snowmobile especially in the Moose River Plains deserves a ticket. Even though some machines are capable of way more than that it seems suicidal to me. The Moose River Plains is very remote and I would imagine getting someone out in case of an emergency would be quite a chore. To each their own but I think those kinds of speed are absolutely nuts.

I may have to result to the same thing. I try to do things by the seasons and legally but they are doing to much damage close to the house. If they were to get the dog I would be so pissed. Hell today I already broke the law by open carrying when I checked my traps and tomorrow I may carry a rifle on the four wheeler.( but I won't shoot from it)

My daughter & son-in law use the bucket method with a little variation. They run a small rod through a beer can and smear the peanut butter on the beer can. One bucket has a bud light can and the other a coors light can so they can have a "beer challenge" between the two. Keeps them entertained. Another thing to try is fresh cab. It keeps them out of our camper:

A little over a week ago while standing at the kitchen sink with the window closed; I heard a coyote howl & bark. I knew it was close and had to be in the yard. I have also seen tracks in the yard less than 50 yards from the house when we had snow. We have a small jack russell and while she is real feisty she wouldn’t stand a chance against a coyote. I had planned to run some traps this fall but due to the wet weather, lots of snow and cold, plus a significant amount of deer hunting I didn’t get any traps out. I have been watching the weather pretty close and even though it wasn’t going to be ideal conditions decided to give it a try. I went out last Friday and put 14 canine sets out. The first day I only had one sprung trap. The second day I caught two possums and a red fox. When I pulled up on the set I could see the fox was dead. As you can see from the pictures it was destroyed by coyotes and never had a chance. With snow, rain, and ice on the way I doubt I will have much success but will leave the traps out until the cold sets in later in the week and hope I can catch one or two of those destructive beasts.

Way to much gun for squirrel when a .22 long rifle would be fine. With a .17 wsm reaching 3000 ft. per second and 2000 ft per second at 200 yards you have yourself a excellent rimfire varmint gun. The only way to make it better is a semi auto platform.

Using the caller is only a part of it. Just like deer you have to learn the critter you are hunting. Put yourself in a good shooting position on the down wind side you expect them to come from. Keep the caller at or pointing to the upwind side. 99% of the time they will approach from down wind. If they circle your position and get a whiff they are gone. No guarantees in predator hunting and always expect the unexpected. I am sure there will be more advice coming from others on here. Good luck and don't educate them all.

Other than the IRS how many people are going to care about the agencies defined: The IRS D.C. marriage licenses National Zoo and the Panda Cam National museums National parks Government loans and grants A lawsuit against Trump The Violence Against Women Act Basic services for Native Americans As far as the parks they are still accessible, they can't keep you out, and now it is free to get in. There is no one to collect the fee for entry, clean the toilets, pick up the trash, or give guided tours. If people respected the parks for what they are and not treat them like landfills we wouldn't need them anyway. When they do go back to "work" most will receive back pay, and work overtime to catch up. Just like NY parks most "government" employees are not much more than fee takers, and servants of the lazy & lost public who are to disrespectful of the resource they have. These same people would go nuts if some one threw a bag of garbage on their law but feel free to do so in a public park. I don't think as a country this shutdown is really killing us. I am sure there are a good number affected that we don't know about and have their own sad story but if you are going to receive back pay for not even working that sounds more like a vacation to me.
