  1. Teeth? Did you not read that we didnt kill him this year? Here are pics of known 1 1/2, 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year olds from the same spot for additional reference.
  2. Now that deer season is most likely done for me, Ill take all of the warm weather I can get. Furnace isnt running much, dont have to shovel, gonna have time to get a few things done around the yard. Not too shabby.
  3. Spend less on winter rye, and end up with more forage. JMO.
  4. I honestly dont think hes 2, because his legs look too short to me, and his rear end is too small. Typically a 2 year old has a large looking rump and long, lanky legs. I just dont see it with this deer. I also think his chest is too deep for 3, as that body structure is usually kind of balanced between front and rear. Im having a hard time with this guy.
  5. I dont know, we never killed him. Im just looking for other opinions. I blocked out the antlers because IMO way too many people look at them to try and age a buck. Ill have another one for you guys another time, and I know how old that one was.
  6. I tend to do it at the same time as Im home anyway doing things like laundry or whatever. It doesnt take long to do, maybe 1/2 hour to skin and quarter and another 45 mins to debone and trim. After that it depends on what you are doing with it. I can vacuum seal roast, backstraps, etc from one deer in just a few mins. If I grind, it takes maybe 1/2 hour including cleanup of the grinder and bagging up of the meat into 1 lb portions. So for the average deer, I have a shade over 2 hours of work, and Im home doing other stuff anyhow. I have no special setup, just a gambrel in the garage, 2 knives, a sharpener, cutting board, grinder and vacuum sealer. I know where my meat was, how it was handled, that its actually my meat, and that Im getting all of it. More than worth it to me. Whatever works for you though, someone needs to keep the processors in business.
  7. They dont run to the next county. Youd be surprised at how many of them circle right back to where you spooked them from. Ive watched many deer do stuff like that on drives. A couple of years ago our group pushed a big corn field. I was a shooter, sitting in a high stand on the end of the field. I saw multiple deer bump about 40 yards ahead of the drivers, get between two of them, and sneak back behind them, then end up going right back to their original spot and laying back down.
  8. $70 a deer? Good lord. So glad I do my own.
  9. Sure, but its not the deer you are thinking of
  10. Yes, a reference back to the thread where the trail cam of the deer popped up on the site a few months ago.
  11. You can insert all of the what if they were doing this or what if they were doing thats into this as you want. Still the facts are that she shot at people fleeing from shoplifting, in a store parking lot, not a smart move.
  12. Just want to see what opinions are on this bucks age. Date of pics is correct
  13. Time on pics is an hour later than the pics were taken. I have lots of daytime pics from the last week or two. They are there, just have to be in the right place.
  14. So the last weekend of the season was pretty uneventful. Saturday my daughter and I got out to an area that has seen very little pressure this year. Its a large brushy area with horse trails carved out, and the deer normally bed in there and then stage before heading to the open fields to feed. We ended up seeing 2 does at about 200 yards, but had something down in a draw that I couldnt see spook them and they went back into a thicket without stopping. That was it for us that hunt. Sunday my daughter wanted to head back to the same place, so we did. We saw one deer, but it was too late to shoot. I really doubt I will go out next weekend, though the weather so far looks very promising. I might have to sight in the front stuffer and get out there for a hunt or two. We will see. If not, its ok, my freezer is pretty full already, and I cant shoot a buck if I hunt the farm anyway. I hear so many guys complaining about their season this year. Im not sure if its just that Im in an area with good deer numbers or what, but I feel like I had a pretty good season overall. I pulled most of my trail cams yesterday so that I can go through and replace batteries and move them all to food sources so that I can start getting an inventory of bucks that made it through the season. Ill get them back out this coming weekend. Theres two that I havent seen in a while that Im worried might have gotten taken by a neighbor we havent heard from, or went on an excursion and got shot. Time and cams will tell though.
  15. My 4 year old understood exactly what was going on when I took him out this year. He was part of the hunt from beginning to end. Helped set the blind, plant food plots and other land work, learned how to read sign, run trail cams, was in the blind opening morning, watched me shoot 2 does, blood trailed one pretty much by himself and found her, helped with the gutting process, and watched me skin, quarter and process the meat. He loved all of it. Would I put him behind a trigger at 5? Probably not, but at 7 or 8? Absolutely. My daughter has been ready for years, but she has to wait till 12 to get a crack at a deer with a bow, and another 2 until she can go after them with a gun. I can take her out to Colorado next year and she can go after elk, but she cant shoot a deer here at home where she knows the land as well as anyone else that hunts it. This state is ridiculous with the age limits IMO.
  16. As far as I know, there is no way to test deer for CWD without killing them, so the deer at farms are not tested unless they die.
  17. No roman nose or white on his face, so he cant be more than 3 according to a leading biologist...
  18. I feel bad for the guy misunderstanding the regs, but its pretty much on him that he didnt read it right. The regs really arent that complicated as far as the doe only thing goes.

  20. Ill be out Saturday afternoon with my daughter, Sunday morning with both kids and Sunday afternoon with my daughter. I have a DMP and my buck tag left, plus we have some farm tags. Im not sure if Ill get out for ML season or not. If I dont get anything this weekend I might.
