  1. Maybe you could have someone come in once and work the ground with one to see how it does before you decide to buy or not. Believe me, they are the cats ass. Id take a tiller and roller/cultipacker combo any day over a plow and disc if the soil Im working allows for it.
  2. No, I dont believe so. I could be wrong, but I have never seen any type of real regulation on that business.
  3. It doesnt matter how you are setup, it always takes longer to clean in preperation to start and clean again when you are done, than it takes to actually cut the deer up. I skin and quarter in my garage, and then debone, trim, bag and grind in my kitchen. Nothing special about my setup really.
  4. I process my own deer. I have 2 knives (one that I skin with and a fillet knife that I use for everything else), a knife sharpener, vacuum sealer and a grinder. Thats all you need to do the job. The money spent on the sealer and grinder will pay for itself in one or two seasons.
  5. Satellite internet service sucks, especially for upload speed, which is what you would need for a surveillance camera system that you want to view remotely. The systems are pretty inexpensive, but you will choke the internet connection. You would still be recording to the DVR, youll just have issues viewing remotely.
  6. If you dont have a ton of rocks in the ground you are going to be working, Id look at a tiller before buying a plow and disc.
  7. I had my last mount done as a wall pedestal. Love it.
  8. Breeding phase of the rut. In our area the chasing phase slowed way down early in the week. I saw some bucks mid and late in the week, but they were mostly hanging with single does. Every scrape I checked was dead by mid week. Sure sign that chasing has ended and breeding is going on (AKA Lockdown). I said it before gun season started, the rut was gonna slow way down just before and as gun season started, and thats exactly what I saw in our area.
  9. I know Im a little late with this but.... Now we finally know what the carpet in the bed of Moog's truck is really all about.
  10. I have to say that one of our properties is just plain dead this year. Usually by this time we have 10+ deer taken there. This year we are at 2, and thats including bow season. We are finding sign in all of the usual places, getting decent results from cameras (down a bit from previous years but not bad), but we are not seeing the deer while we are hunting. The other property we primarily hunt is doing pretty much the same as it always has.
  11. You wont see many trucks, but each piece gets driven 2 - 3 times a week by different groups in the area. During bow its quiet, but come gun season its the opposite.
  12. Mine is a 308 using 150 grain Federal Fusions. His was a 30-06 IIRC. Not sure what bullet. Ive had the same result with shotguns (12 and 20 ga) and 50 cal muzzle loaders. Using Remington Copper Solids, Hornady SSTs and Remigton sluggers. BTW, someone mentioned terrain, the doe I shot that ran 150 yards went uphill for 100 of those yards, then flat land for the final 50.
  13. My opening day double. Took these two out of 9 does that walked out into our food plot at 8am. Let my son track the big doe 150 yards to where she piled up in the brush.
  14. CR 37 and CR 15, it is 8H. It gets pounded pretty hard. There is also a small piece further South on CR 37.
  15. After opening day the week had its ups and downs for me. Sunday morning we went out for a little bit, but didnt see anything. We didnt end up hunting the afternoon, as my son was beat from the day before. Monday morning I was on my own, and ended up torquing my back while I was loading up the ATV. Im still not sure exactly what happened, but by noon I couldnt walk and had to be taken out of a hay field in a truck. I went home and spent 2 days on the couch. Wednesday I got back out there, and sat in a ground blind overlooking a creek bottom and a few ridges for the entire day. That morning I saw a shooter buck chasing a doe, but never had a shot, then another small 4 point chasing a doe. A little later I saw a deer all the way across a brush lot and a field, so I got my binos out and took a peek. I about dropped my binos when I saw the deer. He looked to be at least a big 10, but more likely a typical 12 point frame. He had a huge body and was just walking up the edge of some timber. He was heading toward a brush lot that we acquired permission to hunt this year, but my back was a mess an d there was no way I was gonna try and chase him down and make a mistake that could push him out of the area. After that I saw 7 or 8 more does, and that was it for the day. Thanksgiving I started out in a blind, and my back was feeling good, so we did our usual Thanksgiving drives. On the 3rd drive of the day I acted as the primary shooter for 3 escape routes coming out of a small block of timber and thick brush. First deer out was a half rack spike, which got a pass. Next came a doe, and Im still not sure how, but I missed her as she crossed the field. Last, 2 does squirted out into a hay field off to my left. I knocked the first one down with a good high shoulder shot, and then I never had a shot at the second, as she ran directly away. We did a couple more small drives and then I headed to my evening stand. That evening was very windy, and I didnt see any deer. Friday morning I went to the same stand and ended up seeing the big 8 Im after walking up a farm road a few hundred yards out. I was feeling good and decided to make a move to try and cut him off. I carefully stalked up to a trail that would put me out on the nose of a ridge where Id have about 150 yard shot if he had continued his same path. When I got there, I saw a small buck heading in the same direction the big 8 was, so I setup and watched. I sat there for a couple of hours before I figured the 8 had already gone by or bedded somewhere between where I was and where I had last seen him. Not wanting to pressure him, I backed out. Over the weekend I had family stuff going and didnt end up back out again. It was a good vacation overall though. Had the best opening day Ive ever had, introduced my son to hunting, saw some awesome bucks, spent lots of time with great friends, and put 3 deer in the freezer. Just a couple more weekends of deer season left for me.
  16. Yeah different bucks taken on properties about 3 miles apart on the same morning. Hooks definately didnt have the mass or tine length of the other buck. He might have a tad wider spread though. Thanks! It was definitely a great day!
  17. I didnt comment on that. The OP mentioned some sort of change in the laws regarding blaze orange. For adults, there never has been one unless they are mentoring a youth (as turkeyfeathers pointed out)
  18. We arent talking youth hunting though
  19. NY has never had a law requiring any amount of orange.
  20. Chairs for the blind. Made do and sat on the ground.
  21. Theres alot of land in the region that is unhunted. Just because you havent seen many deer doesnt mean they arent there.
