He has an NFL record though. First QB to lose in 3 different countries.

I had it happen to me, first buck I ever shot. I shot it on state land, my shot was double lung, but the deer ended up dying on posted property. I went and talked to the land owner, and was denied. Contacted the DEC, they sent an officer, he spoke to the land owner, and was denied. The officer could not remove the deer without the guys property. That landowner denied a new hunter their first buck. I hope he felt good about himself. While I understand that those of you that deny access have the right to do so, IMO, its a pretty selfish thing to do. Unless its someone we were constantly having issues with, we never deny access to retrieve a deer. Usually we will help them out.

I read the whole thread. The gate and whatnot is a great idea. Im just making the point that flying off the handle and posting ideas about shooting people, setting traps, etc on the internet for all to see isnt usually the best way to go.

No they cant

So now we have this guy wanting to set booby traps, saying he should be able to shoot people for stealing treestands, etc.....nice. I wonder why so many people stereotype hunters as Elmer Fudd. (no offense Elmer)

WNYBuckHunter's Outdoor Journal
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Member Hunting Journals
This past weekend started out for me on Friday. I called in sick to work as we had the perfect winds for hunting the set situated for the buck Im after. I sat on another farm in the morning, then went and picked my daughter up at school. We headed to the farm and decided to go swap camera cards quick before we went to our stand. On the way to the first camera, we came to the cow pasture, and about 125 yards away were a few does. We stood behind some brush to see if they would leave, but no suck luck, so we detoured to another spot to change cards in another camera. We checked the sugar beet and turnip plot, and swapped the card. We then headed up to our stand, and as we got to the pasture fence, I saw a deer across the pasture, near our stand area. I scoped things out with my binos, and sure enough, there was a couple of bucks and 3 does out there already. We were about 20 mins too late to get in the stand ahead of them, and it was only 3pm. I decided we could get around the pasture and still get near to the stand and possibly setup on one of the typical exit routes and see if the deer headed that way. No such luck, the bucks ended up wandering off in another direction and the does bedded in the pasture. Both bucks were very nice 2 year olds that I wouldnt have shot anyhow. We snuck into the stand and climbed up and got setup with 3 does bedded 80 yards away in plain sight. To say I was impressed with my daughter's ability to do so at 11 years old, is putting it lightly. We sat and ended up seeing 7 different does that evening, and just a few minutes before sunset, a nice doe started walking in to one of my shooting lanes. I got ready and as she stepped into the lane, I took my shot at 30 yards. I saw the arrow headed right for the boiler room, and all of a sudden its path moved up and the arrow went right over the doe's back, and she took off. I watched her leave and then looked back toward where my arrow was and noticed I had nicked the only branch that I hadnt trimmed at the very edge of my shooting lane. I guess I had a bit of tunnel vision as I concentrated on my pins and the deer, and never noticed the branch. I really should have let her take another step, but I got anxious and let it rip as soon as she got by the trunk of the tree. My bad. We ended up sneaking out of there once the other does cleared the pasture, and headed home. Saturday we hunted the evening at the other farm and ended up with 2 does, a fawn and 2 yearling bucks for sightings, with only the two yearling bucks ending up in range. Sunday we didnt hunt, as my daughter woke up with a pretty good fever. The next two weekends, Ill be on my own. Maybe Ill even give self filming a shot, seeing as I wont have my camera girl there with me. Pics to follow... -

Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
WNYBuckHunter replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
If you are talking a rifle specifically for game larger than whitetail, and long range, Id go 7mm Mag or 338 Win Mag. Both are pretty easy to get ammo for, and are proven big game, long range rounds. If you reload, Id go 338 Lapua. -
Dissapointed in Remington

Its pretty simple. If you dont want the low end rifle, then buy the higher end one. Just because the $300 783 is not a top notch rifle, doesnt mean my 700 isnt. -
Happy birthday!

Geeze, I didnt expect grow to be the one to call these guys out for racist remarks. Shes 100% right. The vast majority of Native Americans are good people. There are bad apples in every bunch. Some of you guys might as well be saying Jewish people deserved the holocaust, Sorry you had that experience deerpassion, and Im glad you are safe. This thread is locked though, thanks to people that cant seem to act like civilized adults. -
You know that all of the officers for your area are listed in the Regs guide with their phone number?

Thats a tough angle to age from. Id say 4, but he could be older. Great deer!

Ive been using it for years. Its a great app. The upgrade didnt hurt any of my stuff.

It happens. If it does turn out to be poached, and they catch the person, I hope the state makes an example of them. BTW, when you look at the city's penalty for getting caught hunting, its a $250 max fine. I spend that much on fertilizer for one food plot.

Ill wait to see some facts from DEC. A couple of Facebook pics dont really prove much.
-
Look at an aerial map, I see a bunch of places you could hunt if you had permission. Tonawanda Creek is the line between the 2 WMUs.
-
Hold on, Deerwood Golf Course isnt in the closed zone (9C), its in 9A, so its possible that someone killed it legally. I know guys that have permission to hunt golf courses. Id be cautious of throwing unfounded rumors out there. If that buck was poached, we will end up hearing about it from DEC.

It all depends on how much you practice it.
-
Its all about practice and getting the right type of climbing sticks really. If you are using one of the climbing sticks that turns into basically one piece, it can be a bit more difficult, and not as versatile as the sticks that are separate. I know guys that have the right stick and hang on combo that they will get into a tree faster and more quietly than the vast majority of people that use climbers. Its all about having the right gear and knowing how to use it.
