I work on computers, so Im on them all day as it is. Half of my time is spent waiting for a process or software to run, so I go on here and other places, its better than watching paint dry lol.

I understand what you guys are saying.Im just not claiming to know what happened after the video stopped, which is what I already said. Why should I argue the other side of it? You guys already took care of that.
-
Not at all Doc. I feel that I have the ability to take the shot if necessary, and the effectiveness is what it is. Id rather take the normal heart/lungs shot as its a much easier shot. You really should get that tendency to assume so much under control

DEC National Hunting and Fishing Days
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in NY Hunting Calendar / Events
Just a reminder, DEC National Hunting and FIshing Days is this weekend! Anyone going? Ill be there Saturday, probably between 10ish and 2ish. Gotta restock on the artisan mustard and venison jerky right after I see the displays and down a buffalo burger or two. -
The leaves are starting to change? I started noticing it a little about a week or so ago. Some of the trees around here are getting pretty darn colorful. I have also noticed that a few farmers are already starting to harvest some corn, and the beans are yellowing in most places. Oh, and who noticed the great, new logo on the site? Looks nice John!

Lets see, I told you one deer was a shoulder hit and the other was double lung. I did spine a deer the second year I bowhunted, so I know what happened there and how the deer acted. These were not spine hits. Now ask me how I feel about a spine hit. Its not perfect, but its effective at dropping them so that you can finish them off as quickly as possible, which is always my goal. I am not confused about anything, especially what my personal set of ethical values is. I do not feel that any of those situations is unethical. I was asking if YOU considered any of those situations unethical. Apparently its you that is confused. I was not calling your example a falsity, that was a reference to other things you have stated that were false. Sorry if you take offense to me calling you on your cherry picking spin tactics, but hey, I just call it how I see it. Believe me, I respect the fact that you have many more years of hunting experience than I do, what I dont respect is your narrow, my way or nothing attitude that you espouse from time to time. I also dont respect the way that you try and fabricate points by taking portions of statements that people make out of context. I read all of your diatribes, some I agree with, some I dont. My whole point in this 4 pages is that some of you guys took 20 seconds and tried to turn it into something it isnt by guessing at what happened next. What the video contained was nothing more than a shot taken at a bad angle, a hog dropping and some idiot laughing and letting his dog go after the pig all in the matter of less than 30 seconds total (minus the rewind, etc and advertisements). None of us know how long it took for the pig to be finished off. Could have been seconds later, could have been minutes. On to the next one....

I use leeches. They were still in great shape after 4 years on my last bow.

I am perfectly capable of telling the difference between an animal twitching and flinching with involuntary spasms while its dying and an animal flopping around, holding its head up and making distress bleats, which is what the deer were doing between the time I shot them and finished them off. The head shot was an example of a hypothetical. I should have worded it better, my bad. None the less, all three examples were direct questions, and you danced around answering any of them and went on another one of your lengthy diatribes filled with more examples, falsities and assumptions. Typical spin DOCtor tactics.
-
Let me clear something up for you, since things seem to be getting foggy in your noggin. First, I dont advocate people taking a THS. Ive made that perfectly clear. I only have siad that they are effective if done right. Personally, I wouldnt take one unless it was absolutely necessary for whatever reason. Second, the only one under the delusion that the conversation is about dinner plates, is you. Third, dont sit there and try and put your tactics upon anyone else, oh master of spin and BS. Fourth, I never said I only answer or comment on questions. Theres a prime example of your fabrication technique. Lastly, your lame insult attempts, are, and always have been, lame.

Why I've lost interest in hunting shows.
WNYBuckHunter replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
Im right with you on that. Problem is, those shows are mostly show biz, and the sponsors pay the bills to keep them on the air. You either gain popularity or fall by the way side like many of the shows do. Take a peek at Deer City USA, they used to do a ton of informative stuff on there, and maybe 1 hunt or kill per show, but not anymore. Sponsors got ahold of it and now its almost like any of the other shows, and its getting worse. They dont go 10 seconds without product placement. The one that I think is a really good combo is that Get in the Game show. Some good info on tactics and setups mixed with some different types of hunts, guided and unguided. Doc is right, these guys cant hunt like most of us, they have to get kills in for the show, and have to produce X number of shows per season. Only way to do that is to go on guided hunts in different states. No matter the downsides to it, hunting and the outdoors industry would be better than sitting in front of a computer all day. -
The only type of slugs that cant be used with a smooth bore are sabots. Regular rifled slugs are fine. I used to shoot a smooth more with a modified choke with regular slugs and it did ok. I wasnt big on the bead sight, so I went to a rifled barrel and it tightened up alot. Moved to sabots and tightened up even more.

Why I've lost interest in hunting shows.
WNYBuckHunter replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
Most of the shows arent geared toward hard core hunters, its mass marketing of hunting gear, thats all. That said, how many of you guys wouldnt do what those guys do for a living? If the opportunity presented itself to me, I know for a fact I would do it in a heartbeat. -
Photobucket is saying its a private album and they wont open.

LMAO

Nah, its just a discussion, hasnt been any name throwing yet. Give it another page or two
-
Oh, and at what point did that hog go back to feeding?
-
You are just assuming as to what happened after the camera went off, and thats my point. Let me give you an example of a situation I have had happen a few times while deer hunting. A doe starts out across a field, I stop her with a whistle or grunt, take the shot, hit her in the front shoulders and she runs for a few yards before going down. Shes 100 yards out and behind a tree, so I have no way of shooting her again from my stand. She flops around while I unload my gun, lower it to the ground, grab my pack, get out of the stand, untie my gun, reload it, cross a creek, and walk to where she is so I can finish her off. Tell me, whats unethical about that? I assure you, it took longer than 20 seconds to finish her off. Heres another. A doe comes out, is feeding and slightly quartering to my stand. I take the shot, direct double lung shot. She drops in her tracks, and then starts flopping around. Im 50yards away and not about to start slinging bullets at a deer thats flopping erratically. Same process, unload gun, lower to ground, grab pack, get out of stand, cross creek and walk over to her, all while she is flopping from a high percentage shot. Took more than 20 seconds. Unethical? Situation number 3. Doe comes out at 30 yards, calmly feeding. I take a head shot with a scope. Deer drops in its tracks, never even flinches. Is that unethical?
-
The laughing says the guy is an idiot and has no class, it does not say how long it was before the pig was finished off, which is all I was saying.
-
See, now your whole second part of your post is in complete contradiction to itself. Stop trying to say that I advocate the shot, as I dont at all, but I also dont deny its effectiveness. I answered the .22 question the way I did because you are doing nothing but insinuating that I condone a THS. BTW, shooting a deer in the head with a 22 is effective.
-
You didnt ask me any question in that statement. Anyone with half a brain cell can see right through the nonsense you keep coming up with. Heres what I said... "No I caught it, and still say its a ridiculous comparison. I dont know about you, but i tend to try and keep my shots well within the size of a dinner plate. Actually I find that within the size of a tennis ball of the spot Im aiming at is acceptable to me. A Texas heart shot can be accomplished within that size of an area." and out of that all that you referenced was the dinner plate sized area, not a tennis ball, the dinner plate. Why did you decide to choose that part? To try and fabricate a point. I didnt bother to respond to it because you CHERRY PICKED my statement. You also have failed to note that I am not advocating taking the shot, just commenting that if done correctly, it is effective. Oh, and remember, ethics are nothing more than opinions, not any kind of formal, written code.

Arrows, what are some good ones? Anyone buy new ones recently?
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
Culver, take a peek at the Nockturnal lighted nocks and let me know if you want to get some to try them out. Im going to order a pack or two in the next week or so, maybe we could save on some shipping. -
I can just see the writing on the wall. They are going to discontinue the old style and replacements eventually.

My daughter has one on her Diamond, and I have looked into them. The bottom support brushes wear out faster than a biscuit and throw them out of tune. I want something thats not going to wear out any time soon. Thanks for the tip though!
