  1. Ive heard it is very good. Its pretty easy to get off of the bird as long as you dont shoot them through the breast.
  2. We have a ton of them where I am. The farmer doesnt want them shot, as they do the steeple chase style fox hunts on the property every year.
  3. Thank, I havent been able to find where the DEC says specifically the amount that can be used.
  4. I have been told that you can do a honey burn as long as the can contains 3 oz or less of the honey. I plan on giving that a try this year after I fill the first deer tag.
  5. We did this last year, and with the first deer season in NY starting tomorrow, I figured Id get this thread opened up! Feel free to post in this thread using your smart phone (or other device you can get to the internet with) from your stand or blind with your thoughts, current conditions, pictures, sightings, etc.
  6. I was out wandering the farm this weekend and noticed that there are few acorns on the White Oaks. Beechnut trees are loaded, as well as the Walnut trees. I havent been over to my dads to check the apples or Red Oaks.
  7. Its basically a wart, a certain type of fibroma. They usually fall off at a certain point, and go no deeper than the skin, so they dont affect the meat. Dave, shoot me a PM, Ill tell you a roud about of where Im at.
  8. Im somewhere around 360-ish grains
  9. I tried them when they first came out. Did not like them one bit.
  10. Ive used them quite a bit. Ive used the Burt Coyotes (they were ok) and the Carbon Express Laser Eyes (they were great, just dont fit my current arrows) and will be trying the Nocktournals this year. I also tried making my own, it was too much of a pain to me. There are a few threads about them.
  11. The ones I have are reflective, and come in very handy if you miss a target and have to search the bushes for your arrow. Just wait till it gets dark and go out with a flashlight.
  12. I havent done it yet, but am going to try it this year. I dont see why it would be illegal to do, but you never know. Ill shoot an email to DEC and see what they say.
  13. Lets discuss the whispering eye shot....
  14. Id actually like to go back to last year and see what people said they didnt see any deer and then match that up with people that are complaining about no DMPs this year. It would be interesting to see if theres any correlation.
  15. Thats what is going on on this farm. There are large patches in the corn fields where the corn is ripped down and the cobs stripped of every kernel. A friend of mine and I came across it a month ago while doing some bird control for the farmer.
  16. They are fine for WBs. Your WB should not be tight on the arrow, and wraps arent very thick. I made some arrows up with them, but have since gone to new arrows and the wraps have fallen by the way side, as I dont have time to build my own anymore.
  17. I have noticed that as well. Lots of bad looking penetration. I think it has alot to do with mechanical broadheads. Some could be hitting the offiside shoulder though.
  18. Sounds like it was a great trip! Glad you made it back safe.
  19. You dont need to lay in the grass to get the deed done. No need for a blanket!
  20. Yeah I call her lumpy. I see her all the time, shes very visible. Yes John, I lucked out with this place. I still have another farm that I havnet hardly set foot on yet. Im told there are no deer there either
  21. Correct, and most farmers have people come out and help take care of other pests. Problem is, besides bears, deer tend to put the biggest hurting on things. Depending on how large of an area you are talking about, if one farm had 80 permits, they have a pretty serious problem, and what they do with the dead deer is really their business. Im sure the farmer doesnt want to sit there and butcher 80 deer or pay to have someone do it. Sure, the state could collect them and have them butchered up, but NY is broke last I checked, so the extra funds for that just arent there. Maybe you should start talking to a few of the farmers and try to get in on the action, then you can take some meat home for yourself.

It depends on what stand I hunt. Some of them, I get out there an hour or sometimes more before day break. Others, I wait until its light out before I go in, then I still hunt my way to the stand. Ive shot a couple like that before I ever got to the stand.
