  1. Oh I realize that. It's just so foolish. Alot has to do with sponsorships. Have to show the viewers how well that product worked and was a major part in their success. Lol
  2. I like it when there hunting with a rifle, and the deer is around 100 yrds out and they range him... Why? Or when he's within bow range they nonchalantly pick up the range finder and make tons of quick movement and the deer never seems to see them. Doesn't work with the deer in my area.
  3. I hate those things. I usually just take a gloved hand and rub most of em off. Looks like you got a heck of a crop of em tho..
  4. I smoke my V Hinds at 225 to 250. Pull at a internal of 130.. let it rest lightly foiled for 30 min then slice. In fact, there's one on the pit as I'm typing this. Along with a 8# packer. And a little later double smoking a 12# ham.
  5. No. Two different smokes. A brisket needs to reach a higher internal temp to break down the connective tissue. Around 195- 205. If you take a venison roast to that temp, it would be dry and like chewing on a sneaker. I like to put a pan of bacon above the hind with holes in the pan. As the fat renders out it drops on the roast, basting it. I don't like to cover the hind, as I want the smoke and bark to form on the venison itself.
  6. First, congrats on you new smoker. Next don't trust the thermometer on the door. There notorious for being off. Get a dual probe therm, one food probe for meat, the other a ambient for pit temps. Get a Amps (Amazin pellet tray or tube smoker) the tray was devolved for the masterbuilt electric smokers. Check out smoking meat forums. The have a electric section with tons of tips and mods for these units. As far as ribs, asumming pit temp will be 225*-250*, there's many different methods. 2-2-1, 3-2-1. Some don't wrap at all. Wrapping does make it easier, but those that don't go by feel, or the bend test rather than temp. If you like FOB (fall of the bone), wrapping helps. You'll develop your own method and flavor profile.
  7. I wouldn't rattle like two bucks fighting to the death, but a light sparing has worked for me in the past. Your most likely going to get younger bucks responding now, but ya never know.
  8. Might work if he's on a trail, pretty tuff in a field. But most of my deer didn't read the script and don't use the trail I'm expecting them to.
  9. Thank you so much. I can't express enough how much I appreciate it. When the boys outgrow it, I gift it to another youth. PM sent
  10. Chefhunter, bow still available? I have two grand nephews, 12 and 13, that are excited about hunting. They lost there dad(my nephew) 4 yrs ago, and there mom can't afford bows for them. I've been taking them along with me, and Kayden took his first turkey this spring. I've gotten them camo, boots and cold weather gear. I do what I can for the boys and there sister, and am thankful they have a interest in hunting. Thanks...
  11. Seen the same show. I was thinking who else is watching this BS. Now, maybe... And I mean maybe. The buck bedded. Had that happen to me where I gut shot a buck, watched him bed down 100 yrds away, and found him the next morning. But, I agree. Bunch of BS. I would have more respect if he admitted he made a bad shot, and should have stopped him before shooting. He should have admitted his mistakes, and educated the novice viewers (and reenforced those of us that recognized the mistakes) and been forthcoming.
  12. Love my 6.4. On my 2nd 3500 SRW. I tow a 12k 5er with mine as well as equipment regularly. From spring to fall, I'm towing my mowing rig every day. Empty, keeping it under 70 on the highway I get 18. Around town empty I get 14. Towing my mowers, about 12. My area is far from flat, but not Adirondack steep either. My first 6.4 had about 80k trouble free miles. Current one has 12k I've owned diesels, luv em, except for the emission crap. My dmax and powerjoke had more emission problems then I cared for. Thats main reason I switched to a gasser. I'll probably never own another diesel.
  13. It's very rewarding, at least for me it is. My advice is don't over think the teaching part. Just hunt the way you normally do while simply explaining why. Let him do his thing, safely of course, and point out how you may have done things differently in that situation. He'll develop his own style and methods after you show him the basics.

My area, Columbia Co, has a decent crop this yr. Not a banner crop like 2 yrs ago, but far better than last yrs total lack of mast crops. The hickory and black Walnut crops are over the top this yr tho.
  15. Fletch is correct. No smell after it dries. However, even if it did have a slight smell, I'd rather be tick free than picking the little devil's off me.
  16. That's the stuff I've been using for yrs. Works great.
  17. Believe me, I can't wait to get out of NY. 8 more yrs till my wife retires. But unless we move somewhere cold, were still going to be battling ticks.
  18. Haven't been hunting yet. Been too busy. Was at a client's property today, and after getting the lawn done, decided to check a couple stands. Was in the woods for about 15 min. When I got back to the truck, I look at my pants legs.. I couldn't believe the ticks. In 10 min afterwards, I pulled 36.... Yes I said 36, ticks off me. Couldn't wait to get home and change/shower. I always spray my hunting clothes, but I was working and didn't have any spray with me.
  19. That's how I hunt em too. Hate to remember how many times I picked the wrong stand only to hear them on the next trail 100 yrs away.
  20. Still hunting in the swamps I hunt is about impossible. The grasses are 10' tall and thick. I can here the deer sloshing through the place, but can't see em. When a buck is chasing a doe around in there, the noise is incredible. Love hate relationship with that swamp. Killed many nice bucks hunting it, but what a nightmare getting them out of there.
  21. That depends. I hunt a swamp that there's no trees large enough along the edge for a stand as it's a old field that's grown up, but 80 yrds in the swamp I've got a stand. I've got to Wade through knee deep water to get to it, so it's a PITA. Same swamp about 100yrds further there's plenty of tree along the edge, so I don't go in. Know way to see or hunt both areas even with the rifle as it's so thick but only 100 yrd apart.
  22. Good luck. Hopefully your plan works and the next pic will be you holding onto his rack with a ear to ear grin...
  23. I agree 100%. That's why I said keep hunting with the wind, meaning don't hunt a stand if the winds wrong. That and keep changing stands as not to burn out one spot. Killed many nice bucks early in the season when deer we're supposedly not moving.
  24. Wait till the rut gets closer. He'll change is patterns. I'd still hurt the wind, and keep changing stands. You never know when he might show. Can't kill em from the living room.
